Download or read book Stalking Victimization in the United States written by Katrina Baum and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2011 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a print on demand edition of a hard to find publication. Stalking is defined as a course of conduct directed at a specific person that would cause a reasonable person to feel fear. The Supplemental Victimization Survey identified seven types of harassing or unwanted behaviors consistent with a course of conduct experienced by stalking victims. The survey classified individuals as stalking victims if they responded that they experienced at least one of these behaviors on at least two separate occasions. In addition, the individuals must have feared for their safety or that of a family member as a result of the course of conduct, or have experienced additional threatening behaviors that would cause a reasonable person to feel fear. This report presents information on stalking victimization. Illustrations.

Download or read book No Ordinary Stalking written by June Ti and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2017-01-03 with total page 429 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organized stalking is carried out by an enthusiastic and structured group that has cruel intentions: stalk, harass, injure, financially ruin, and mentally crumple human prey until incapacitation occurs. What sets this crime apart is that innocents are picked off the street. There is no getting away from the stalkers and no getting away from the unusual technology that is used to take over someone’s life. “For the first couple of months,” says June, “I thought it was a sick game. Now that I’ve been tormented for years, well, it’s clear that organized stalking is a sophisticated crime that follows a step-by-step process to leave the victim as bare and isolated as the dead tree on the cover. He or she may still be standing, but that’s about it. “I’ll sum it up this way. Veiled intimidation ensures that targeted individuals are viewed by the public as free people, which they are not. They are playthings to their controllers. Hostages in plain sight. Victims are quite literally owned yet have limited chance of rescue because their desperate circumstances are misunderstood. Some die from the violence. Some die from suicide. And the rest merely exist.” Organized stalking is worldwide and is called gang stalking in some areas. The electronic harassment that accompanies organized stalking is also known as covert harassment.

This book was released on 2013-05-09 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New, updated edition 2020. According to Dr. Michelle Ward, Criminal Psychologist and narrator of the TV reality show "Stalked: Someone's Watching You," over three million people a year are stalked, over two-thirds of them women. Ninety percent of women killed by husbands or boyfriends had first been stalked. The U.S. Department of Justice estimates that one in 10 women and one in 35 men in the U.S. have been or will be stalked sometime in the future. Among celebrities and other high-profile people alone, one security company has amassed over 300,000 communications. These statistics are staggering, and are on the increase. This book is written for everyone - it doesn't matter if you're male or female, gay or straight, young or old, large or small. Bullying, stalking, harassment, revenge and threatening behaviors by someone you know can happen to anyone - and it's probably already happened to you. We focus predominantly on "romantic" relationships, but these principles apply to anyone in your life. For example, many people have been victims of harassment by neighbors, coworkers, bosses, teachers, friends, acquaintances, family members, strangers and hired help. It is not uncommon to suffer harassment by someone you barely know, or someone you've never met - someone who has been watching you and/or studying you without your knowledge (as in Celebrity Stalking). Our main goal in this book is to assist you in becoming more aware of when someone is controlling, manipulating, harassing, bullying, stalking or threatening you, and empower you to respond in ways that will protect you. Controlling, manipulative, and/or threatening behaviors often turn into turn violence. Some of the chapters included are: --The Rejected Lover--Is it Love or Obsession?--Controlling and Manipulative Ploys--Dr. Jekyll -- Mr. Hyde Types--The Romantic Bully--Emotional Blackmail--Cyberstalking and Spying--Handling Dangerous Situations--Protective Orders and Legal Action--Best Strategies to Stop the Insanity!--Post-Traumatic Stress--Battered Persons' Syndrome--Effective Formula for Conflict Resolution--De-Escalation Training--Grieving, Moving On and Thriving--Positive Affirmations and New CommitmentsWe walk you through the entire process and give you our best strategies and advice every step of the way. Book excerpt: The "masterfully chilling" novel that inspired the hit AMC series (Entertainment Weekly). The men on board the HMS Terror — part of the 1845 Franklin Expedition, the first steam-powered vessels ever to search for the legendary Northwest Passage — are entering a second summer in the Arctic Circle without a thaw, stranded in a nightmarish landscape of encroaching ice and darkness. Endlessly cold, they struggle to survive with poisonous rations, a dwindling coal supply, and ships buckling in the grip of crushing ice. But their real enemy is even more terrifying. There is something out there in the frigid darkness: an unseen predator stalking their ship, a monstrous terror clawing to get in. “The best and most unusual historical novel I have read in years.” —Katherine A. Powers, Boston Globe

Book Synopsis Preparing for the Psychological Consequences of Terrorism by : Institute of Medicine
Download or read book Preparing for the Psychological Consequences of Terrorism written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2003-08-26 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Oklahoma City bombing, intentional crashing of airliners on September 11, 2001, and anthrax attacks in the fall of 2001 have made Americans acutely aware of the impacts of terrorism. These events and continued threats of terrorism have raised questions about the impact on the psychological health of the nation and how well the public health infrastructure is able to meet the psychological needs that will likely result. Preparing for the Psychological Consequences of Terrorism highlights some of the critical issues in responding to the psychological needs that result from terrorism and provides possible options for intervention. The committee offers an example for a public health strategy that may serve as a base from which plans to prevent and respond to the psychological consequences of a variety of terrorism events can be formulated. The report includes recommendations for the training and education of service providers, ensuring appropriate guidelines for the protection of service providers, and developing public health surveillance for preevent, event, and postevent factors related to psychological consequences.
