A similar strategy is applied to systems where a delay term is added. The book concludes with many concrete examples. There are other complicated examples in the automotive industry, aircraft and space vehicles, containing rather than strings and beams, plates and shells. These multi-body structures are often complicated, and the mathematical models describing their evolution are quite complex. For the sake of simplicity, this volume considers only 1-d networks.

The effect of a displacement feedback control on the critical force is examined. It is found that a judicial choice of feedback gains results in considerable higher critical forces. Further, the gains may be always selected in such a manner that stability is lost by either divergence, or by flutter. Absence of the possibility to lose stability by flutter may be advantageous.
