Book Synopsis Design Theory ’88 by : Sandra L. Newsome
Download or read book Design Theory ’88 written by Sandra L. Newsome and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-07 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1984, Nam Sub, who was then the Assistant Director for Engineering at the National Science Foundation (NSF), created the Design Theory and Methodology Program. Among his goals in creating this program were to develop a science of engineering design and to establish design as an accepted field of engineering research. From 1984 to 1986 this program was directed by Susan Finger; from 1986 to the present Jack Dixon has been the director. The program itself has covered a broad range of disciplines, from chemical engineering to architecture, and a broad range of research paradigms, from psychological experiments to mathematical models. The present volume is based on the second NSF Grantee Workshop on Design Theory and Methodology, called Design Theory '88, which was held June 2-5, 1988 at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, USA. It is, however, not strictly a proceedings since it includes some material that was not presented at a the Workshop and since it omits some papers and discussions that were presented at the Workshop. At the Workshop, invited speakers presented overviews of six different research areas based on summaries submitted in advance by the grantees of the Design Theory and Methodology Program. Since most of the speakers were not supported under the NSF program they brought fresh views to it. The other papers in this book were submitted directly to this volume and were not presented at the Workshop.
Book Synopsis Communicating User Experience by : Trudy Milburn
Download or read book Communicating User Experience written by Trudy Milburn and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2015-07-01 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Communicating User Experience: Applying Local Strategies Researchto Digital Media Design examines how Local Strategies Research (LSR) helps investigate user experiences with digital media. This edited collection uses case studies to examine the way we communicate in the digital age whether between individuals and digital interfaces (such those installed in cars), dyads via mobile phones and online interfaces, or members of a group through a video conference. Milburn and her contributors consider the cultural norms that both inform and are used during interaction to provide a useful methodology that shifts design (particularly HCI) research from a focus on emotional, subjective user experiences to the everyday practices involved in interacting with one another in and through digital devices and interfaces. Communicating User Experience will be a valuable resource for designers and scholars of communication and new media.

This book was released on 2021-06-17 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Distance learning and remote learning have been developing options within the eLearning and talent training realms for over two decades, yet distance learning has become a significant reality within the past few months, especially as the COVID-19 pandemic has forever impacted the K-12, higher education, and adult training and talent development workforce solutions. Within the rapid shift into remote and distance learning environments, the curricular design and instructional design are understood as necessary. However, there is a need to understand aspects around social learning within eLearning environments. It is important to understand the opportunity of moving towards transformative social learning environmental engagement and experiences within distance and remote learning environments to improve the ability to understand social learning in eLearning environments. eLearning Engagement in a Transformative Social Learning Environment focuses on supporting and enhancing remote and distance learning (eLearning) instructional experiences, discusses the strategic role of social learning within eLearning environments, and enhances levels of engagement, transformative learning, and talent attainment environments. This book provides insights and support towards policies and procedures within instructional and training decision making around social learning needs and support. The chapters will explore social learning opportunities and support, modeling social learning engagement, communities of practice, and instructional processes of eLearning. The intended audience is teachers, curriculum developers, instructional designers, professionals, researchers, practitioners, and students working in the field of teaching, training, and talent development.
