Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I hope and pray that these poems will inspire, encourage, motivate, comfort and draw you closer to our Lord and Savior "Jesus Christ". Who has been, and continues to be my constant source of strength, spiritual inspiration and comfort everyday! I began writing this book in 2003, I had just surrendered my life to God, after undergoing back surgery in 12/2002 that was a pivotal point in my life. Before my surgery I had promised God that if he brought me through the surgery successfully I would come back to church. After my baptism in the spring of 2003, I began writing out of gratitude and thankfulness for what God had done in my life. A good portion of this book was inspired by the experiences that I've had, as God protected, led and inspired me every step of the way back to the foot of the cross. George L. Lashley, was born in Pembroke, Bermuda. His ability to write was discovered when he was asked to write an essay for a 3rd grade class home work assignment. When the essay was ready by the teacher, she immediately took it to the Principal who insisted that he read it in front of the entire school assembly. That experience was somewhat embarrassing to him not being used to so much attention. He continued to write but in a more subdued and secretive fashion. It was only after he began writing poetry of a spiritually uplifting nature, and began reading them during church services and other suitable occasion, did he, through the encouragement of others decide to attempt to publish any of his work.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two ministers share their own stories about struggling to live out their faith. It’s the sort of experience familiar to many: Somewhere between illness and divorce, abusive relationships and brushes with death, faith failed to provide answers . . . or we failed to live as though we believed faith held answers. But surely, it’s different for clergy, the ones who preach and practice faith? But faith requires more, and authors Martha Spong and Rachel G. Hackenberg, who grew up in the church and became ordained ministers, know first-hand about coming to terms with God and life, the need to search for answers . . . or at least assurance we are not alone in struggling for renewed hope. Denial is My Spiritual Practice is a companion for the wondering and struggling. The authors offer their own stories as evidence that God remains, both when faith fails and when faith finds new understanding. They combine stark life experiences, offbeat spiritual perspectives, and Scripture to offer comfort, grace, laughter, and a few tears along the way.

Book excerpt: Propelled by a desire for the sacred, spiritual seekers of the Middle Ages were masters of pilgrimage, dedicated to their journeys of religious devotion. Their epic voyages took them across continents and treacherous mountain passages, and were undertaken with a keen awareness of the possible perils of the journey. Still, by faith, they went on pilgrimage in hopes of tracing the steps of Jesus in the holy city of Jerusalem. In 3000 Miles to Jesus Lisa Deam invites us to embrace the adventure of spiritual pilgrimage in our everyday lives. Bringing alive the rich stories of medieval pilgrims, she offers an intimate look at these quests for the sacred, helping us draw rich application for our walks of faith today. To take this road, we won't have to give up flushing toilets, warm beds, or cell phones. But we are invited to travel the rugged terrain of faith: journeying in risk and adventure through unfamiliar territory, across the unknown seas of the spiritual life, meeting life's difficult passages of loss, accompanied by the temptation to turn back even as we march on. In meeting challenges in the wise company of the ancient pilgrims, we learn hope and resolve as we walk a wild and wonderful way to a city that shimmers beyond a horizon we cannot yet see. We are headed for the Jerusalem of our hearts. When we understand the risks taken and the courage and conviction driving the medieval pilgrim, a bigger picture of a lifelong journey of faith comes into view. We are opened up to the sacred world before us in new and unexpected ways.

Book excerpt: From the author of Crafting Gratitude, a resource that “provides good medicine for the soul and the elixir of hope for the spirit” (Spirituality & Practice). In a world that feels increasingly fragile, people will continue to look for new prayers and new ways to pray. While there are a number of anthologies of prayer available, no book—until now—has attempted to provide a collection that focuses specifically on prayers for a wide range of modern challenges, from the personal to the global. Prayers for Hope and Comfort covers issues facing individuals (illness, addiction); those challenged in relationships (aging parents, divorce); local communities (natural disasters, unemployment); the larger world (poverty, hunger, war); and creation itself (loss of rainforests, species extinction, global warming). Prayers for Hope and Comfort offers readers solace, comfort, and hope, drawing from the wisdom of every era, every major faith and tradition, and the important voices of those who have lived through such experiences themselves. The book contains selections from some of the world’s most profound poets and thinkers: David Whyte, Eckhart Tolle, Sister Joan Chittister, and Martin Luther King, Jr. as well as traditional prayers and verses from every time and place. Named one of the Best Spiritual Books of the Year by Spirituality & Practice
