Book excerpt: Every golfer can improve their game using the instructions in The Impact Zone by Bobby Clampett "one of the most knowledgeable golfing minds in the game." —Tom Lehman, British Open Champion Impact has long been called golf's "moment of truth," and great golfers have spent countless hours working on their swings trying to upgrade their impact dynamics as the golf club approaches, contacts, then swings through the ball. For the first time, with The Impact Zone, golfers will have a book that focuses their attention on the very same region of the swing on which professional golfers have always concentrated. The Impact Zone is a unique instructional guide in that everything in it either focuses on or applies to improving a golfer's understanding and execution of impact. Here, acclaimed professional golfer Bobby Clampett concludes that the overwhelming bias and convention of today's contemporary teaching environment is to value swing styles over swing dynamics, and in so doing, the overwhelming majority of golf teachers miss the boat in terms of teaching the game effectively. Ultimately this emphasis on swing style comes at the expense of helping golfers to develop sound swing dynamics, which are the real keys to consistent ball striking and better golf. With the help of CBS's Swing Vision high-speed camera—using images from many of the game's greatest contemporary players (including Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, John Daly, Vijay Singh, Sergio Garcia, and more)—The Impact Zone takes an unprecedented look at the most important six inches in golf, those that immediately precede, contain, and follow impact. To further demonstrate these principles, Clampett presents photos and drills that convey the five essential dynamics golfers need to produce and reproduce solid impact. Throughout these instructional pages, Bobby Clampett—teamed with veteran golf writer Andy Brumer—relays his own personal story of straying from swing dynamics and how he found his way back. He recalls memorable stories from the Tour, blending innovative instruction with his colorful, engaging anecdotes. Clampett and Brumer create an essential instructional guide with clear, concise advice—on creating great swing dynamics through the impact zone—the universally acknowledged key to more consistent and better golf.

Book excerpt: This book offers a collection of valuable guidelines for making decisions concerning the future development of transport networks and traffic engineering. The decision-making support systems described here will certainly attract the interest of those who face the challenge of finding solutions to problems concerning modern transport systems on a daily basis. Consequently, the book is chiefly intended for local authorities involved in planning and preparing development strategies for specific transport-related areas (in both urban and regional contexts), as well as for representatives of business and industry who are directly engaged in the implementation of traffic engineering solutions. The guidelines provided in the respective chapters help to address the given problem soundly, and to simplify the selection of an appropriate strategy. The topics covered include increasing the competitiveness of public transport, the status quo of electric vehicle infrastructures worldwide, methods for calming urban traffic as an element of sustainable transport development, speed traffic zones and electric buses, car-sharing systems in Poland, a method for deconstructing the regional travel demand model, monitoring urban traffic using floating car data, problems of deliveries in urban agglomeration distribution systems, estimating the number of threatened people in case of fire in road tunnels, and road pavement evaluation using advanced tools. Since the book also considers new approaches to theoretical models (including traffic flow surveys and measurements, transport behaviors, human factors in traffic engineering, and road condition modeling), it will also appeal to researchers and scientists studying these problems. The book gathers selected papers presented at the 15th Scientific and Technical Conference “Transport Systems. Theory and Practice”, organized by the Department of Transport Systems and Traffic Engineering, Silesian University of Technology in Katowice, Poland on September 17–19, 2018.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended for those who want to work on improving the fitness and conditioning of football players. The contents are written, above all, for the needs of the fitness coaches (strength and conditioning / performance coaches) in football/ soccer, but the needs of the head and assistant coaches have also been covered. This book is a particularly useful tool for coaches working with young categories of football players. The principles for fitness (and conditioning / performance) training are similar for different categories of players, professional (adults) / young players. The following contents, through examples and programmes, explain the principles of the processes of training and transformation of Human Motor Abilities (HMA), which are predominantly recognisable in the football game, and which affect the improvement of the general and specific fitness of football players. For us, as authors of this book, our goal is, through these contents, to enable the coaches to independently understand and set up transformation of Human Motor Abilities in the form of fitness and conditioning trainings. The trainings described are examples of good practice (based on science). After reading the contents of this book, the coach should be able to develop one’s own plan and programme for each kind of training. The future fitness and conditioning training plan should be a flexible plan and should follow the changes that occur in the players; it should be dynamic and adaptable according to the respective conditions. Topics covered: PRE-SEASON PLAN | TRANSFORMATION OF HUMAN MOTOR ABILITIES | TRAINING LOAD + DOSAGE MANAGEMENT | FUNCTIONAL STRENGTH/POWER TRAINING | PERFORMANCE MONITORING | OFF-SEASON- TRAININGS | REHABILITATION (INJURY PREVENTION)

The increase in efficiency in the use of energy may even, in this historical moment, bring greater benefit than the use of renewable energies. Electricity appears to be the most sustainable of energies and the most promising hope for a planet capable of growing without compromising its own health and that of its inhabitants. Power electronics and electrical drives are the key technologies that will allow energy savings through the reduction of energy losses in many applications. This Special Issue has collected several scientific contributions related to energy efficiency in electrical equipment. Some articles are dedicated to the use and optimization of permanent magnet motors, which allow obtaining the highest level of efficiency. Most of the contributions describe the energy improvements that can be achieved with power electronics and the use of suitable control techniques. Last but not least, some articles describe interesting solutions for hybrid vehicles, which were created mainly to save energy in the smartest way possible.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Until recently, the interpretation of data obtained in seismic exploration has been based on comparatively simple representations of the Earth. The most commonly used representation for the Earthhas been a set of thick layers, each characterized by a single value for the propa gation speed of seismic waves. During the last several years, more complicated representa tions in the form of thin layers with vertical velocity gradients, as weIl as homogeneous thin layers have been considered. New methods for studying propagation speeds in a medium, particularly ultrasonic logging methods, and the results of theoretical and experimental studies of the dynamic characteristics of seismic waves have revealed that areal Earth is considerably more complicated than the simple models accepted in the past. This has led to a need for more realistic representations of the real Earth as a medium through wh ich seismic waves propagate. Because of this, tlie Department of Seismic Exploration Methods of the Institute of Physics of the Earth of the Acad emy of Sciences of the USSR has been carrying out both experimental and theoretical studies on the topic "Selection of Physical Representations of Actual Media and the Study of the Correspond ing Wave Propagation Effects. " Three major subdivisions have been recognized within this over all pro gram: 1. The establishment of a direct relationship between the structure of a real medium and the basic wave-propagation characteristics.

The evolution of sports as an industry has conditioned training theories and has brought about a notable change in such fundamental aspects as load prescription. Thanks to EPTS and other technologies, we increasingly know more about the athlete. Nor can we forget that this has led to the emergence of a scientific perspective within the coaching staff. In this way, load monitoring gradually ceases to be a task of the physical trainer and becomes a task of the Sport Scientist. The future of this role within the coaching staff will probably be determined by the professionals ability to improve the analysis of the response of each athlete to the training stimulus, both internally (internal load) and externally (external load), since the relationship between load, sports performance and injury prevention is very close. However, we cannot forget that technological advances and new load-monitoring formats may appear. Undoubtedly, one of the objectives of the sports industry will be to develop lighter, smaller and less invasive EPTS that can also be applied to different contexts.
