Book Synopsis Automated Verification of Concurrent Search Structures by : Krishna Siddharth
Download or read book Automated Verification of Concurrent Search Structures written by Krishna Siddharth and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-05-31 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Search structures support the fundamental data storage primitives on key-value pairs: insert a pair, delete by key, search by key, and update the value associated with a key. Concurrent search structures are parallel algorithms to speed access to search structures on multicore and distributed servers. These sophisticated algorithms perform fine-grained synchronization between threads, making them notoriously difficult to design correctly. Indeed, bugs have been found both in actual implementations and in the designs proposed by experts in peer-reviewed publications. The rapid development and deployment of these concurrent algorithms has resulted in a rift between the algorithms that can be verified by the state-of-the-art techniques and those being developed and used today. The goal of this book is to show how to bridge this gap in order to bring the certified safety of formal verification to high-performance concurrent search structures. Similar techniques and frameworks can be applied to concurrent graph and network algorithms beyond search structures.

Book Synopsis Systems and Software Verification by : B. Berard
Download or read book Systems and Software Verification written by B. Berard and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Model checking is a powerful approach for the formal verification of software. It automatically provides complete proofs of correctness, or explains, via counter-examples, why a system is not correct. Here, the author provides a well written and basic introduction to the new technique. The first part describes in simple terms the theoretical basis of model checking: transition systems as a formal model of systems, temporal logic as a formal language for behavioral properties, and model-checking algorithms. The second part explains how to write rich and structured temporal logic specifications in practice, while the third part surveys some of the major model checkers available.

Book Synopsis Automatic Verification of Sequential Infinite-State Processes by : Olaf Burkart
Download or read book Automatic Verification of Sequential Infinite-State Processes written by Olaf Burkart and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-08-06 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A common approach in software engineering is to apply during the design phase a variety of structured techniques like top-down design, decomposition and abstraction, while only subsequently, in the implementation phase, is the design tested to ensure reliability. But this approach neglects that central aspects of software design and program development have a strong formal character which admits tool support for the construction of reliable and correct computer systems based on formal reasoning. This monograph provides much information both for theoreticians interested in algebraic theories, and for software engineers building practically relevant tools. The author presents the theoretical foundations needed for the verification of reactive, sequential infinite-state systems.

Book Synopsis Formal Systems Specification by : Manfred Broy
Download or read book Formal Systems Specification written by Manfred Broy and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1996-11-06 with total page 572 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The RPC-memory specification problem was proposed by Broy and Lamport as a case study in the formal design of distributed and concurrent systems. As a realistic example typical for operating systems and hardware design, the RPC-memory problem was used as the basis for comparing various approaches to formal specification, refinement, and verification. Preliminary solutions were discussed during a workshop at Schloss Dagstuhl, Germany, in September 1994. Then an extensive discussion took place between the referees and authors. Finally 15 thoroughly revised papers were accepted for inclusion in this volume in full detail together with the problem statement and a synopsis.
