Coates – on the occasion of his 70th birthday, this collection of contributions covers a range of topics in number theory, concentrating on the arithmetic of elliptic curves, modular forms, and Galois representations. Several of the contributions in this volume were presented at the conference Elliptic Curves, Modular Forms and Iwasawa Theory, held in honour of the 70th birthday of John Coates in Cambridge, March 25-27, 2015. The main unifying theme is Iwasawa theory, a field that John Coates himself has done much to create. This collection is indispensable reading for researchers in Iwasawa theory, and is interesting and valuable for those in many related fields.

Book Synopsis Periods of Hecke Characters by : Norbert Schappacher
Download or read book Periods of Hecke Characters written by Norbert Schappacher and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-14 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The starting point of this Lecture Notes volume is Deligne's theorem about absolute Hodge cycles on abelian varieties. Its applications to the theory of motives with complex multiplication are systematically reviewed. In particular, algebraic relations between values of the gamma function, the so-called formula of Chowla and Selberg and its generalization and Shimura's monomial relations among periods of CM abelian varieties are all presented in a unified way, namely as the analytic reflections of arithmetic identities beetween Hecke characters, with gamma values corresponding to Jacobi sums. The last chapter contains a special case in which Deligne's theorem does not apply.
Book Synopsis Algebraic K-theory and Algebraic Number Theory by : Michael R. Stein
Download or read book Algebraic K-theory and Algebraic Number Theory written by Michael R. Stein and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1989 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of a seminar on Algebraic $K$-theory and Algebraic Number Theory, held at the East-West Center in Honolulu in January 1987. The seminar, which hosted nearly 40 experts from the U.S. and Japan, was motivated by the wide range of connections between the two topics, as exemplified in the work of Merkurjev, Suslin, Beilinson, Bloch, Ramakrishnan, Kato, Saito, Lichtenbaum, Thomason, and Ihara. As is evident from the diversity of topics represented in these proceedings, the seminar provided an opportunity for mathematicians from both areas to initiate further interactions between these two areas.

Book Synopsis Conjectures in Arithmetic Algebraic Geometry by : Wilfred W. J. Hulsbergen

This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the early 1980's, stimulated by work of Bloch and Deligne, Beilinson stated some intriguing conjectures on special values of L-functions of algebraic varieties defined over number fields. Roughly speaking these special values are determinants of higher regulator maps relating the higher algebraic K-groups of the variety to its cohomology. In this respect, higher algebraic K-theory is believed to provide a universal, motivic cohomology theory and the regulator maps are determined by Chern characters from higher algebraic K-theory to any other suitable cohomology theory. Also, Beilinson stated a generalized Hodge conjecture. This book provides an introduction to and a survey of Beilinson's conjectures and an introduction to Jannsen's work with respect to the Hodge and Tate conjectures. It addresses mathematicians with some knowledge of algebraic number theory, elliptic curves and algebraic K-theory.

Book Synopsis Non-Archimedean L-Functions and Arithmetical Siegel Modular Forms by : Michel Courtieu
Download or read book Non-Archimedean L-Functions and Arithmetical Siegel Modular Forms written by Michel Courtieu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-12-09 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, now in its 2nd edition, is devoted to the arithmetical theory of Siegel modular forms and their L-functions. The central object are L-functions of classical Siegel modular forms whose special values are studied using the Rankin-Selberg method and the action of certain differential operators on modular forms which have nice arithmetical properties. A new method of p-adic interpolation of these critical values is presented. An important class of p-adic L-functions treated in the present book are p-adic L-functions of Siegel modular forms having logarithmic growth. The given construction of these p-adic L-functions uses precise algebraic properties of the arithmetical Shimura differential operator. The book will be very useful for postgraduate students and for non-experts looking for a quick approach to a rapidly developing domain of algebraic number theory. This new edition is substantially revised to account for the new explanations that have emerged in the past 10 years of the main formulas for special L-values in terms of arithmetical theory of nearly holomorphic modular forms.
Book Synopsis Automorphic Forms Beyond $mathrm {GL}_2$ by : Ellen Elizabeth Eischen
Download or read book Automorphic Forms Beyond $mathrm {GL}_2$ written by Ellen Elizabeth Eischen and published by American Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2024-03-26 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Langlands program has been a very active and central field in mathematics ever since its conception over 50 years ago. It connects number theory, representation theory and arithmetic geometry, and other fields in a profound way. There are nevertheless very few expository accounts beyond the GL(2) case. This book features expository accounts of several topics on automorphic forms on higher rank groups, including rationality questions on unitary group, theta lifts and their applications to Arthur's conjectures, quaternionic modular forms, and automorphic forms over functions fields and their applications to inverse Galois problems. It is based on the lecture notes prepared for the twenty-fifth Arizona Winter School on “Automorphic Forms beyond GL(2)”, held March 5–9, 2022, at the University of Arizona in Tucson. The speakers were Ellen Eischen, Wee Teck Gan, Aaron Pollack, and Zhiwei Yun. The exposition of the book is in a style accessible to students entering the field. Advanced graduate students as well as researchers will find this a valuable introduction to various important and very active research areas.

Book Synopsis Advanced Analytic Number Theory: L-Functions by : Carlos J. Moreno
Download or read book Advanced Analytic Number Theory: L-Functions written by Carlos J. Moreno and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2005 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the pioneering work of Euler, Dirichlet, and Riemann, the analytic properties of L-functions have been used to study the distribution of prime numbers. With the advent of the Langlands Program, L-functions have assumed a greater role in the study of the interplay between Diophantine questions about primes and representation theoretic properties of Galois representations. This book provides a complete introduction to the most significant class of L-functions: the Artin-Hecke L-functions associated to finite-dimensional representations of Weil groups and to automorphic L-functions of principal type on the general linear group. In addition to establishing functional equations, growth estimates, and non-vanishing theorems, a thorough presentation of the explicit formulas of Riemann type in the context of Artin-Hecke and automorphic L-functions is also given. The survey is aimed at mathematicians and graduate students who want to learn about the modern analytic theory of L-functions and their applications in number theory and in the theory of automorphic representations. The requirements for a profitable study of this monograph are a knowledge of basic number theory and the rudiments of abstract harmonic analysis on locally compact abelian groups.
