Download or read book Special Papers in Palaeontology, Silurian Conodonts from the Yangtze Platform, South China written by Cheng-Yuan Wang and published by Wiley-Blackwell. This book was released on 2010-08-23 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Special Paper is primarily intended for conodont specialists, but will also be of interest to Silurian biostratigraphers and anyone working on the Silurian rocks of China. New conodont collections are described from a number of sections in area of the Yangtze Platform, South China, and existing literature on Silurian conodonts from China is re-evaluated and integrated with the new information. Several new taxa are recognised and the taxonomy of several early Silurian conodont species is refined. The status of Silurian conodont biozonation in China is reviewed, and Chinese sections are correlated with sections elsewhere. The palaeoecological and palaeobiogeographical significance of the Chinese conodonts is also discussed.

Book Synopsis Late Ordovician Brachiopods from the South China Plate and Their Palaeogeographical Significance by : Zhan Ren-Bin
Download or read book Late Ordovician Brachiopods from the South China Plate and Their Palaeogeographical Significance written by Zhan Ren-Bin and published by Blackwell Publishing. This book was released on 1998 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Special Paper details the highly endemic mid Ashgill brachiopod faunas of the border regions of Zhejiang and Jiangxi provinces, east China. These are the only brachiopods of this age known from the South China Palaeoplate. Forty-one taxa are described, including two new genera and seven new species. The brachiopods are illustrated photographically and by line drawings, including several of serial sections. The South China fauna is compared, through faunal affinity analysis, with contemporary faunas from Asia and Australia. It is most similar to that from Kazakhstan, and this provides important biogeographical data to back up plate tectonic models for this region.

Book Synopsis The Ordovician Earth System by : Stanley Charles Finney
Download or read book The Ordovician Earth System written by Stanley Charles Finney and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Ordovician period is a significant chapter in Earth's history that included the great Mid-Ordovician biodiversification event, the Hirnantian glaciation, and long-term greenhouse conditions. Ordovician rocks are widespread on most continents and the recent finalization of a modern chronostratigraphic classification of the Ordovician system now facilitates high-resolution correlations that allow for integrated multidisciplinary research. The diverse papers comprising this volume address orogenesis, paleogeography, climate modeling, sedimentation, biodiversity, and isotopic excursions; together they promote an integrated view of the Ordovician earth system."--Publisher's description.

This book was released on 2006-12-08 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Special Papers in Palaeontology, published by The Palaeontological Association, is a series of substantial separate works conforming to the style of the Palaeontology journal. Two issues are published each year and feature high standard illustrations. Investigates the shell-rich Llandovery strata of the Anticosti ramp and presents the orthide brachiopods which reached their evolutionary diversity acme and abundance in the Ordovician Highlights the nine families of orthides which were lost at the end of the Ordovician, but discusses how some 16 families crossed the boundary (though mostly showing declines in the Silurian) Greatly expands the old locality register and enables the accurate placement of known and new species in a stratigraphic, evolutionary, as well as type locality framework Brings together researchers, geologists and enthusiasts who continue to find material of significance Includes 19 plates and 14 text-figures
Book Synopsis The Geologic Time Scale 2012 by : Felix Gradstein
Download or read book The Geologic Time Scale 2012 written by Felix Gradstein and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-09-01 with total page 1175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Geologic Time Scale 2012, winner of a 2012 PROSE Award Honorable Mention for Best Multi-volume Reference in Science from the Association of American Publishers, is the framework for deciphering the history of our planet Earth. The authors have been at the forefront of chronostratigraphic research and initiatives to create an international geologic time scale for many years, and the charts in this book present the most up-to-date, international standard, as ratified by the International Commission on Stratigraphy and the International Union of Geological Sciences. This 2012 geologic time scale is an enhanced, improved and expanded version of the GTS2004, including chapters on planetary scales, the Cryogenian-Ediacaran periods/systems, a prehistory scale of human development, a survey of sequence stratigraphy, and an extensive compilation of stable-isotope chemostratigraphy. This book is an essential reference for all geoscientists, including researchers, students, and petroleum and mining professionals. The presentation is non-technical and illustrated with numerous colour charts, maps and photographs. The book also includes a detachable wall chart of the complete time scale for use as a handy reference in the office, laboratory or field. The most detailed international geologic time scale available that contextualizes information in one single reference for quick desktop access Gives insights in the construction, strengths, and limitations of the geological time scale that greatly enhances its function and its utility Aids understanding by combining with the mathematical and statistical methods to scaled composites of global succession of events Meets the needs of a range of users at various points in the workflow (researchers extracting linear time from rock records, students recognizing the geologic stage by their content)
