Book Synopsis Transformationsgesellschaft by : Judith Fritz
Download or read book Transformationsgesellschaft written by Judith Fritz and published by Waxmann Verlag. This book was released on 2022 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Thinking About Social Policy by : Franz-Xaver Kaufmann
Download or read book Thinking About Social Policy written by Franz-Xaver Kaufmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-11-15 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book traces the political history of the concept of social policy. „Social policy“ originated in Germany in the mid 19th century as a scholarly term that made a career in politics. The term became more prominent only after World War II. Kaufmann, the doyen of the sociology of social policy in Germany, argues that „social policy“ responds to the modern disjunction between “state” and “society” diagnosed by the German philosopher Hegel. Hegel’s disciple Lorenz von Stein saw social policy as a means to pacify the capitalist class conflict. After World War II, social policy expanded in an unprecedented way, changing its character in the process. Social policy turned from class politics into a policy for the whole population, with new concepts – like "social security", "redistribution" and "quality of life" - and new overarching formulas, "social market economy" and "social state" (the German version of “welfare state”). Both formulas have remained indeterminate and contested, indicating the inherent openness of the idea of the “social”.
Book Synopsis Social Market Economy by : Stefan Sorin Muresan
Download or read book Social Market Economy written by Stefan Sorin Muresan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-25 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents the economic policy model known as “Social Market Economy” in Germany, the country where it originated. Although the model has since been adopted as core objective in the EU Treaty of Lisbon, experts still disagree on its exact nature. The author contributes to this debate by presenting the German economic system from an external perspective and looking at the extent to which it enabled the country increase its weight in international relations. The system ́s history, identity, political and economic concepts, including ordoliberalism, are analyzed. Its potential and shortcomings are assessed by comparing it to other forms of capitalism. A brief enquiry is made into whether the "Social Market Economy", or aspects of it, are applicable to other countries, including in Eastern Europe. Providing both theoretical and practical aspects, the book offers a valuable resource for researchers, public administration professionals, and policymakers.

Book Synopsis The Rich and the Poor in Modern Europe, 1890-2020 by : Hartmut Kaelble
Download or read book The Rich and the Poor in Modern Europe, 1890-2020 written by Hartmut Kaelble and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2023-04-14 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As social inequality grows, historical analysis on wealth and income distribution across the 20th century often does not take into account inequality of education, health, housing and chances of social mobility, nor does it differentiate statistical inequality from the realities of peoples’ actual experience. With this broad understanding in mind, in a long look back on the history of social inequality in Europe, The Rich and the Poor in Modern Europe addresses these neglected subjects. It also tackles the commonplace notion that modern capitalism inevitably produces wealth gaps and asks whether the facts and figures we possess also lead to alternate interpretations of examples of mitigated inequality. Covering the 20th century and the beginnings of the 21st century in Europe through wars, and economic crises, through periods of unprecedented economic prosperity and staggering economies, both exacerbating and dampening the problem, acclaimed historian Hartmut Kaelble offers a rigorous response to understanding our present-day challenge of social inequality.

Download or read book Zwangsprostitution und Menschenhandel written by Connie Gunderson and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2013 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Imbalance by : Tobias Schulze-Cleven
Download or read book Imbalance written by Tobias Schulze-Cleven and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-03-30 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Germany is a central case for research on comparative political economy, which has inspired theorizing on national differences and historical trajectories. This book assesses Germany’s political economy after the end of the "social democratic" 20th century to rethink its dominant properties and create new opportunities for using the country as a powerful lens into the evolution of democratic capitalism. Documenting large-scale changes and new tensions in the welfare state, company strategies, interest intermediation, and macroeconomic governance, the volume makes the case for analysing contemporary Germany through the politics of imbalance rather than the long-standing paradigm of institutional stability. This conceptual reorientation around inequalities and disparities provides much-needed traction for clarifying the causal dynamics that govern ongoing processes of institutional recomposition. Delving into the politics of imbalance, the volume explicates the systemic properties of capitalism, multivalent policy feedback, and the organizational foundations of creative adjustment as key vantage points for understanding new forms of distributional conflict within and beyond Germany. The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of German Politics.
