In vielen Fällen spielt auch die Zusammenarbeit mit weiteren Sozialen Organisationen und dort tätigen psychologischen, rechtlichen und weiteren fachlichen Experten der Bereiche Familie, Frauen, Arbeitsmarkt und Migration eine wichtige Rolle.

Nach einem Blick auf Definitionen und grundlegende Fragestellungen, beschäftigt sich die Arbeit mit globalen Migrationsbewegungen und ihren Auswirkungen auf die Zuwanderungssituation in Deutschland. Die Lebensbedingungen von Migrant/innen sowie die beruf-lich-gesellschaftliche Integration von Zuwander/innen wird untersucht. Dabei stellen wir fest, dass die Facetten von Migrationshintergründen sehr vielfältig sind und es sehr unterschiedliche Lebensbedingungen gibt. Diese Erkenntnis wird auch anhand einer in die Tiefe gehenden Milieustudie von Sinus-Sociovision erläutert. Die Situation von Migrant/innen an Hochschulen und Fachhochschulen Sozialer Arbeit wird dahingehend betrachtet, welche Schwierigkeiten aber auch welche Chancen sie birgt. Ausgehend von 5 Hypothesen werden die Erkenntnisse der empirischen Untersuchung, mit Hilfe von Experteninterviews, aufgezeigt und bewertet. Sie zeigen, dass die im Sozialen tätigen Migrant/innen (wie bei IN VIA KOFIZA) über vielseitige Potentiale und Kompetenzen – aber auch über Grenzen verfügen. Dabei wird deutlich, dass sie u. U. anders handeln als ihre deutschen Kolleg/innen, aber auch auf ganz ähnliche Reflexionsformen und Lösungswege zurückgreifen wie diese. In der Zusammenarbeit von deutschen und nicht-deutschen Fachkräften ist eine wachsende Kollegialität festzustellen, nur bei der vollen Teilhabe von Migrant/innen an der Sozialen Arbeit sind noch Entwicklungen nötig. Die Ergebnisse der Expertenmeinungen werden in Hinblick auf Konzepte, wie Fremdheitskompetenz, interkulturelle Kompetenz und ressourcen-orientierte Sozialer Arbeit untersucht und bewertet. Dabei ist festzustellen, dass Fachkräfte mit Migrationshintergrund über ein großes Potential für die Soziale Arbeit verfügen, enorm wichtige Kompetenzen mitbringen und diese besonders gut entwickeln können, wenn sich Gesellschaft und Träger ihnen gegenüber öffnen. Migrant/innen dienen als »Wegweiser«, sie sind Kulturdolmetscher/innen und haben dabei eine Vorreiter-Rolle – sowohl für ihre Community als auch für die Mehrheitsgesellschaft. Diese Gewaltform erfolgt im sozialen Nahraum zwischen Individuen, die einander nahestehen. Sozialarbeitende werden in den verschiedensten Bereichen der Sozialen Arbeit mit häuslicher Gewalt konfrontiert. Denn neben speziellen Beratungs- und Zufluchtsstellen, die sich auf Opfer von häuslicher Gewalt ausrichten, ist diese Thematik beispielsweise auch für Regeleinrichtungen der Kinder- und Jugendhilfe relevant. Der Sozialen Arbeit kommt die Aufgabe zu, fachlich fundierte Präventions- und Interaktionsansätze umzusetzen, mit denen häusliche Gewalt verhindert bzw. bekämpft werden kann. Prinzipiell ist häusliche Gewalt eine Problematik, die hierzulande über weite Strecken des 20. Jahrhunderts tabuisiert war. Wissenschaftsdisziplinen wie die Soziale Arbeit und die Soziologie sowie gesellschaftliche Akteurinnen und Akteure (z. B. Frauenbewegung, Opferverbände) haben in den letzten Jahrzehnten dazu beigetragen, dass sich das soziopolitische Problembewusstsein für häusliche Gewalt erhöht hat. Die zahlenmäßig größte Migrantengruppe in Deutschland sind Menschen mit einem türkischen Migrationshintergrund. Hieraus leitet sich für die Soziale Arbeit die Notwendigkeit ab, die Hilfsangebote bezüglich häuslicher Gewalt auf Frauen mit türkischem Migrationshintergrund auszurichten. Im Mittelpunkt der vorliegenden Arbeit steht nun folgende Forschungsfrage: Welche inhaltlich-konzeptionelle Gestaltung sollten Hilfsangebote aufweisen, die sich an von häuslicher Gewalt betroffenen Frauen mit türkischem Migrationshintergrund wenden? It focuses on four major areas of post-separation lives, namely (1) economic conditions, (2) parent-child relationships, (3) parent and child well-being, and (4) health. Through studies from several European countries, the book showcases how legal regulations and social policies influence parental and child well-being after divorce and separation. It also illustrates how social policies are interwoven with the normative fabric of a country. For example, it is shown that father-child contact after separation is more intense in those countries which have adopted policies that encourage shared parenting. Correspondingly, countries that have adopted these regulations are at the forefront of more egalitarian gender role attitudes. Apart from a strong emphasis on the legal and social policy context, the studies in this volume adopt a longitudinal perspective and situate post-separation behaviour and well-being in the life course. The longitudinal perspective opens up new avenues for research to understand how behaviour and conditions prior or at divorce and separation affect later behaviour and well-being. As such this book is of special appeal to scholars of family research as well as to anyone interested in the role of divorce and separation in Europe in the 21st century.

Beginning in the 1970s, survey data indicated that the average migrant was a young, unmarried man who was poor, undereducated, and in search of better employment opportunities. This is the general view that most Americans still hold of immigrants from Mexico. On the Move argues that not only does this view of Mexican migrants reinforce the stereotype of their undesirability, but it also fails to capture the true diversity of migrants from Mexico and their evolving migration patterns over time. Using survey data from over 145,000 Mexicans and in-depth interviews with nearly 140 Mexicans, Filiz Garip reveals a more accurate picture of Mexico-U.S migration. In the last fifty years there have been four primary waves: a male-dominated migration from rural areas in the 1960s and '70s, a second migration of young men from socioeconomically more well-off families during the 1980s, a migration of women joining spouses already in the United States in the late 1980s and ’90s, and a generation of more educated, urban migrants in the late 1990s and early 2000s. For each of these four stages, Garip examines the changing variety of reasons for why people migrate and migrants’ perceptions of their opportunities in Mexico and the United States. Looking at Mexico-U.S. migration during the last half century, On the Move uncovers the vast mechanisms underlying the flow of people moving between nations.
