Book Synopsis The Complete Node Book by : Kevin Burk
Download or read book The Complete Node Book written by Kevin Burk and published by Llewellyn Worldwide. This book was released on 2003 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first comprehensive guide to the Moon's nodes--probably the most misunderstood points in astrology. The nodes are not planets, but the points on your birth chart where the orbit of the Moon around the Earth crosses the ecliptic. The nodes are the key to understanding your spiritual purpose for this lifetime. The South Node reveals the lessons, talents, and abilities you mastered in past lives, while the North Node shows you how to best use your past-life skills for spiritual growth, happiness, and success in this life. The Complete Node Book presents a new and empowering perspective on the nodes. It defines and analyzes the specific lessons and challenges presented by each of the 144 possible placements of the nodes. Both sign and house placement of the nodes are considered for extraordinarily insightful and accurate interpretations. For beginning astrologers, this guidebook provides easy-to-find personal interpretations and a free birth chart offer. For advanced astrologers, it will serve as the definitive reference manual on the Moon's nodes.

Book Synopsis A Long and Winding Road by : Sean Monahan
Download or read book A Long and Winding Road written by Sean Monahan and published by UWA Publishing. This book was released on 2003 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part literary criticism, part literary detective story, this is the first major study of the work of Xavier Herbert, one of the great Australian novelists of the 20th century. It began as an attempt to answer two questions: Why did a novel as magnificent as Poor Fellow My Country receive so lukewarm a response from much of the critical establishment? And how did a man who sometimes wrote so badly ever learn to write such a novel? In exploring these questions, Sean Monahan provides perceptive new readings of Herbert's major works, and he looks in each of the earlier works for clues to solve the mystery of where the final great achievement came from. This engaging, accessible book makes a substantial and original contribution to an understanding of Herbert's fiction, while at the same time telling the human story of a writer's rocky road to creating a masterpiece.
Book Synopsis South of Cancer, North of Capricorn by : DB Martin
Download or read book South of Cancer, North of Capricorn written by DB Martin and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2001-05-17 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beautiful Charlotte Amalie can take your breath away and it literally does to victims of a racist serial killer and the vigilante who seeks him. The warm blue water of the islands is the facade behind which boils centuries of hate and mistrust among the confluenced people who inhabit the fair shores. Slavery's final hateful act is to not allow the past to be forgotten. It rushes constantly to the reptilian portion of everyman's brain and brings civilization back to its beginnings in the slash of a blade or the flash of an explosion. Kodi is singled out because his lover is of another race and from that ill-founded beginning there comes enough death and hate to rival equally dark periods of history. When next the reader disembarks from his cruise ship, he/she will see in those staring eyes and dark alleys, scenes one had hoped were forever washed from human experience.

Book Synopsis The Shadow of the Precursor by : Nena Bierbaum
Download or read book The Shadow of the Precursor written by Nena Bierbaum and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2011-10-18 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A shadow, in its most literal sense, is the projection of a silhouette against a surface and the obstruction of direct light from hitting that surface. For writers and artists, the shadows cast by their precursors can be either a welcome influence, one consciously evoked in textual production via homage or bricolage, or can manifest as an intrusive, haunting, prohibitive presence, one which threatens to engulf the successor. Many writers and artists are affected by an anxious and ambiguous relationship with their precursors, while others are energised by this relationship. The role that intertextuality plays in creative production invites interrogation, and this publication explores a range of conscious and unconscious influences informing relations between texts and contexts, between predecessors and successors. The chapters revolve around intertextual influence, ranging from conscious imitation and intentional allusion to Julia Kristeva’s idea of intertextuality. Do all texts contain references to and even quotations from other texts? Do such references help shape how we read? This multidisciplinary work includes chapters on the long shadows cast by Shakespeare, Dante, Scott, Virgil and Ovid, the shadows of colonial precursors on postcolonial successors, the shadows cast over Kipling and Murdoch, and chapters on other writers, dramatists and filmmakers and their relationships with precursor figures. With its focus on intertextual relationships, this book contributes to the thriving fields of adaptation studies and studies of intertextuality.
