Ebetaleye challenges orthodox approaches to racial integration with an honest, radical, thought-provoking story of the attempt to achieve racial harmony in an interracial relationship. The perspective from which this book is written is unusual and as such the ideas expressed are particularly important. Even those who lay claim to metaphorical 'colour blindness' will find this original work an eye-opener. This book, Sorrow in the House of Colour, is based on a true-life story stemming from the intimate experience of the principal character. The objective again is to, amongst other things, bring to focus the diversity of humanity, especially in regard to the black and white racial divide with a view to sensitizing both races to identify a common basis for mutual co-existence in order to make the world a better place to live in. This is against the background of an increasing globalisation of the various facets of human endeavours whereby as they say, the world is becoming one big village, thus making sustainable mutually beneficial inter-relationship inevitable. Therefore, the earlier our our respective prejudices and mind sets are de-emphasized for those features typifying the commonality of humans, the better for the entire mankind. In essence the objective is to sensitize rather than criticise. The intent is to foster Harmony rather than brew Acrimony. The goal is to achieve a better World rather than build brick Walls. It is my hope that the reading public find Sorrow in the House of Colour as stimulating as it is thought-provoking and relevant message, a richly-textured piece of writing that skilfully manages to be at price inclusive, thought-provoking and highly readable. It is a significant, by which I mean that it has relevance to the reader on a number of levels, which is itself sure testimony to the author's creative versatility. It is a book which abounds with a wealth of perceptively observed detail, obviously the product of real experience, which lends to the book a poignant, sometimes quite gritty reality, a dramatic immediacy, which is one of its key strengths. The characters, situations and dialogue are relayed in vivid and lively detail which makes each moment seem entirely authentic. As a result, the reader is effortlessly drawn into the fabric of this sotry, experiencing it as his or her own reality. The structure of the book is an accomplished device in itself, patiently built and sparingly meted out with an eye on the necessities of tension, pace, climax and anti-climax.
