Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The power of nature and the forces that make our earth and environment appear to have come home to the author in his retirement. The clarity of his vision separates the material world from the true spiritual meaning of his surroundings. The verses of the weather, his garden, friends both living and deceased, his love for socializing with food, wine and his work are beautifully spelled out in verse. His verses speak of the passion, hurt and even melancholy that is in everyone of our lives. Darryl is lucky to have found the true meaning for human existence in our environment on this lonely planet that is so small compared with the billions of stars in the cosmos. He knows that the human soul is here for eternity. Seek the comfort from the sun, wind, sea, birds, animals and the flowers and enjoy all with a glass of nature's gift to mankind a glass of red wine, cheese and whole some bread. "This book will keep you enthralled with it's humour, personal accounts about everyday activities of humans in their ingenuity and peculiarities." The Senns (on their round the world trip)

Four or five of them were printed in Quintets - my first book of poems - published in 1894. I am fully conscious of their imperfections, but various testimony already elicited seems to indicate that they have some merit. Their aim is to teach that in and through all human love and hate there is a dominating divine love which attains its perfect mani festation in Christ and Christianity, by whose power and victory alone can any human soul or the world at large find the true law of its own highest evolution, hence its. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Picture Gallery of Souls: Sonnets and Short Poems Although I'm fallible like you, Whate'er ye seek, I seek the true; So if ye any errors find, Those errors are of human kind. By patient study of my art, I secrets learn from many a heart: I analyze each human soul, And paint its features on my scroll. The truth, however dark or bright, Must be within a prophets sight: The dark is Satan's bad alloy; The bright is Gods eternal joy. If ye can find a noble line, Expressing feelings half divine, Know ye that I must tune the lyre To notes that other souls inspire; Where'er ye find the grandest words, A higher power touch'd the chords: I dedicate my poetry To cosmo-psychic Energy. Book excerpt: Against the backdrop of Isla Negra — the sea and wind, the white sand with its scattering of delicate wild flowers, the hot sun and salty smells of the Pacific — Nobel laureate Pablo Neruda sets these joyfully sensual poems in celebration of his love. The subject of that love: Matilde Urrutia de Neruda, the poet's "beloved wife." As popular in the Hispanic world as the poet's renowned Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair,One Hundred Love Sonnets has never before been published in its entirety in English translation. The reason for this astonishing neglect may lie in the historical circumstances that surrounded Neruda's "discovery " by English-speaking readers. In the United States he came to popularity during the turmoil of the sixties, when Americans needed a politically committed poet, and much of Neruda's canon answered that need. But, in his native Chile and throughout Latin America, Neruda has always been cherished as dearly for the earthly sensuality and eroticism of his love poetry as for his statements of political belief. To know this work, then is to understand the poet's art more thoroughly.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Self and the Sonnet is an interdisciplinary study which considers the sonnet, a near eight hundred year old form, and looks at the historical meanderings and the popularity of the form among cultures that are far removed from the location of its origin in Italy. The book tracks the notion of the self from its Platonic beginnings to the Postmodern, using insights from Charles Taylor, Brian Morris and Calvin O. Schrag so as to work out a model of the self. Jan Patočka’s phenomenological notions of the self and Chaos Theory are important cohesive elements in the composition of this model. A limit point in Mathematics is a point that is not in the set around which all the points cluster. The book looks at the self from the limit points of the body, mind, world and language. It analyzes sonnets which predominantly show a tendency to one of these limit points. However, it keeps in mind the other limit points as possibilities of a comprehensive analysis. The motivation for this body of research comes primarily from the notion of the sonnet being a form that initially exists along with the epic as canonical writers of literary epics also write sonnets. The historic and narrative moment of self in sonnet form calls for a questioning of both the self and the sonnet. The book tries to address the questions: ‘What changes in the notion of self prompt the origin and persistence of the sonnet across cultures?’ and ‘Why and how is this form compatible with a self that is postmodern and global?’ The Anglo-American sonnet, for the most, is addressed but cultures and their attendant forms are also addressed when considering the sonnet. The Arabic zajal, the Persian ghazal, the Chinese sonnet and the Korean Sijo-sonnet are forms that are touched upon along with the Indian postcolonial versions like the forms of the sonnet in Modern Indian Languages such as Bangla, Gujarati and Marathi.

Book excerpt: Ten Poems to Open Your Heart is a book devoted to love: to the intimacy of personal love and lovemaking, to a loving compassion for others, and to the love that embraces both this world and the next. This new volume from Roger Housden features a few of the same poets as his extraordinarily moving Ten Poems to Change Your Life, such as Mary Oliver and Pablo Neruda, along with contributions from Sharon Olds, Wislawa Szymborska, Czeslaw Milosz, Denise Levertov, and others. Any one of the ten poems and, indeed, any one of Housden’s reflections on them, can open, gladden, or pierce your heart. Through the voices of these ten inspiring poets, and through illustrations from his own life, Housden expresses the tenderness, beauty, joys, and sorrows of love, the presence of which, more than anything else, gives human existence its meaning. As Housden says in his eloquent introduction, “Great poetry happens when the mind is looking the other way and words fall from the sky to shape a moment that would normally be untranslatable. . . . When the heart opens, we forget ourselves and the world pours in: this world, and also the invisible world of meaning that sustains everything that was and ever shall be.” From the Hardcover edition.
