Book excerpt: What do you do after you walk down the aisle in four weddings in a few months-none of them your own? What's left after you've donned the must-have-not dresses of the season, forked over your cash, and fake-smiled your way through countless photos? After you've dealt with the smashed guest, the smooshed cake, the dashed hopes, and the missed bouquets? That's what Cate Padgett is starting to wonder, as she embarks on stint after stint on the sidelines, watching friends swap bar-hopping for baby-naming...while her own love life goes nowhere fast. But is Cate unwilling to settle down-or just unwilling to settle? And can anyone really judge her if they haven't walked in her dyed-to-match shoes? Wild, witty, and full of weddings to cry over, Always the Bridesmaid is an endearingly romantic comedy about standing out in the crowd even when everyone's wearing the same celery-green dress...and daring to make every day The Happiest Day of Your Life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The disappearance of a Reno couple from Prince William Sound, Alaska, along with a half eaten dog, apparently by killer whales, raises suspicion that a certain orca pack, called the A-T pack, led by a particularly sharp and aggressive female, the queen, may be responsible. An exploration geologist and his wife, Alaska residents and both interested in orcas, carry out investigations in the A-T pack's home waters to learn more about their behavior and habits. They are joined by a marine biologist orca specialist from southern California. A number of people are determined to communicate with the orcas, including a psychologist from Canada, a rock band from Vancouver, BC. and music for the orcas via underwater speakers. Some kids from Anchorage attempt to communicate with the whales with near-fatal consequences. Accompany the intelligent orcas as they hunt, kill and eat various types of fish and animals. They also have fun. The three investigators decide to test the interest of the orcas, under federal and state supervision, in a totally strange food to help determine if they might kill and eat humans. Small pigs, a human food, were decided upon as the best choice for testing orca reaction to strange food animals. The test is successful and part of the A-T pack is orca led but not for long.

Download or read book No One Belongs Here More Than You written by Miranda July and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2008-05-06 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Named a Top Ten Book of the Year by Time, the bestselling debut story collection by the extraordinarily talented Miranda July, award-winning filmmaker, artist, and author of All Fours. In No One Belongs Here More Than You, Miranda July gives the most seemingly insignificant moments a sly potency. A benign encounter, a misunderstanding, a shy revelation can reconfigure the world. Her characters engage awkwardly—they are sometimes too remote, sometimes too intimate. With great compassion and generosity, July reveals her characters’ idiosyncrasies and the odd logic and longing that govern their lives. No One Belongs Here More Than You is a stunning debut, the work of a writer with a spectacularly original and compelling voice.
