Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The forty-nine papers collected here illuminate the meaning of quantum theory as it is disclosed in the measurement process. Together with an introduction and a supplemental annotated bibliography, they discuss issues that make quantum theory, overarching principle of twentieth-century physics, appear to many to prefigure a new revolution in science. Originally published in 1983. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.

Download or read book Foundations Of Modern Physics 1990, The: Quantum Measurement Theory And Its Philosophical Implications - Proceedings Of The Symposium written by Lahti Pekka and published by #N/A. This book was released on 1990-12-31 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of quantum mechanical measuring process has been a subject of increasing research interest during recent years. The revival of interest in it was encouraged during the 1980's due to the advances on the formal and conceptual structures of quantum mechanics, accompanied with new experimental possibilities and technological demands, as well as due to new ideas on the interpretation of the theory. This proceedings is devoted to reviewing the present situation on quantum measurement theory and discussing the related philosophical implications.

Book Synopsis Bohmian Mechanics and Quantum Theory: An Appraisal by : J.T. Cushing

This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are often told that quantum phenomena demand radical revisions of our scientific world view and that no physical theory describing well defined objects, such as particles described by their positions, evolving in a well defined way, let alone deterministically, can account for such phenomena. The great majority of physicists continue to subscribe to this view, despite the fact that just such a deterministic theory, accounting for all of the phe nomena of nonrelativistic quantum mechanics, was proposed by David Bohm more than four decades ago and has arguably been around almost since the inception of quantum mechanics itself. Our purpose in asking colleagues to write the essays for this volume has not been to produce a Festschrift in honor of David Bohm (worthy an undertaking as that would have been) or to gather together a collection of papers simply stating uncritically Bohm's views on quantum mechanics. The central theme around which the essays in this volume are arranged is David Bohm's version of quantum mechanics. It has by now become fairly standard practice to refer to his theory as Bohmian mechanics and to the larger conceptual framework within which this is located as the causal quantum theory program. While it is true that one can have reservations about the appropriateness of these specific labels, both do elicit distinc tive images characteristic of the key concepts of these approaches and such terminology does serve effectively to contrast this class of theories with more standard formulations of quantum theory.

Book Synopsis Quantum Entanglement in High Energy Physics by : Oliver K. Baker
Download or read book Quantum Entanglement in High Energy Physics written by Oliver K. Baker and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2024-04-24 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to research topics in quantum entanglement at the energy frontier of particle and nuclear physics, and important interdisciplinary collaborations with colleagues from fields outside of physics. A non-exhaustive list of examples of the latter can include mathematics, computer science, social sciences, philosophy, and how physics can interact with them in a way that supports successful outcomes. These are exciting times in the field of quantum information science, with new research results and their applications in society exhibiting themselves rather frequently. But what is even more exciting is that the frequency of these new results and their applications increases with a rapidity that will motivate new methods, new theories, new experiments, and new collaborations outside of the field that future researchers will find quite challenging.
Book Synopsis Quantum Theory by : Salvator Cannavo
Download or read book Quantum Theory written by Salvator Cannavo and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2009-02-26 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In straightforward and nontechnical language, a philosopher of science goes to the very heart of what is still the central subject in modern physics, namely, quantum theory, with its astonishing ability to predict—yet not explain. There, he encounters and unravels the maze of bewildering puzzles that, for nearly a century, have locked our most eminent theoreticians in a whirlpool of ongoing controversy. Salvator Cannavo breaks radically with this tradition of searching for a generally acceptable interpretation of quantum theory by urging a complete withdrawal from the fray. In doing so, he first highlights the now established adjunctive role of quantum theory in the elaboration of string theory and other developing branches of explanatory physical theory, and then recommends a new focus for the channeling of creative effort in contemporary theoretical physics.
