This book was released on 2013-01-24 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1636, Roger Williams, recently banished from the Massachusetts Bay Colony because of his religious beliefs, established a settlement at the head of Narragansett Bay that he named “Providence.” This small colony soon became a sanctuary for those seeking to escape religious persecution. Within a few years, a royal land patent and charter resulted in the formation of the “Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations,” which incorporated Williams’ original settlement and espoused his tenets of freedom of religion and separation of church and state. During the ensuing decades, thousands of Baptists, Quakers, Jews, and Huguenots relocated to Rhode Island from other New England colonies, the British Islands, and Europe in search of religious freedom. One such individual, John Thomas, an immigrant from Wales, made significant contributions to early settlements at Jamestown on Conanicut Island and at Wickford on the nearby mainland of Rhode Island. He was the first town constable of Jamestown in 1679, and later owned hundreds of acres of land in the towns of North and South Kingstown. This fully indexed work traces and sketches the lives of his descendants, many of whom were at the forefront of the great American westward migration, and represents the most comprehensive compilation of them to date. It is the result of twenty years of extensive research and includes detailed information from military pension archives, will and estate records, agricultural data, county histories, and migration patterns that far exceeds the standard for genealogical works of this scope and magnitude. It is important for us to remember those who helped shape our nation. This work provides valuable information for those who are interested in this family and its evolution in America.

Book Synopsis Jude and the Relatives of Jesus in the Early Church by : Richard Bauckham
Download or read book Jude and the Relatives of Jesus in the Early Church written by Richard Bauckham and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2015-01-29 with total page 474 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is an original and important contribution to the study of the earliest Palestinian Jewish Christianity. For the first time all the evidence for the role which relatives of Jesus played in the early church is assembled and assessed. Dr. Bauckham discusses a wide range of evidence, not only from the New Testament but also from the Church Fathers, the New Testament Apocrypha, rabbinic literature and Palestinian archaeology. The letter of Jude, in particular, proves to have much to teach us about the theology of the brothers of Jesus and their circle. It illuminates their exegetical methods and their Christology and shows both to have been influential contributions to the development of early Christianity. This study shows that this neglected New Testament book is far more important for the study of early Christianity than has hitherto been recognized. By setting the letter of Jude within the context of the evidence for the role of relatives of Jesus in the early church, new insights can be revealed into the letter and early Jewish Christianity.

This book was released on 2015-07-21 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from History and Genealogy of the Descendants of John Lawrence Hester and Godfrey Stough: 1752-1905 We hereby wish to express our sincere thanks to the Hon. M.C. Hester, of Los Angeles, Cal.; to the late George Hester, Esq., of Cleveland, Ohio; to Herman M.Smiley, of Lisbon, Ohio; to Geo. C. Howenstein, of Carthage, Mo.; to Capt. John M.McCoy, of Dallas, Texas, and to our daughter, Catharine Er Booth, of Delaware, Ohio, who has been an inspiration as well as a valuable adviser and aid in this effort; and to all others, who by their words of encouragement and material aid in gathering these records, have contributed to this work. The sketch and list of the descendants of Martin Mason, Sr., who was a prisoner of war, was furnished by Lewis H.Mason, of Ashland, Ohio, and is indexed under the name of Mason. Undoubtedly mistakes will be discovered. Many times I have received conflicting dates of the same event, in several instances from the same person. At best it would seem impossible to make a complete record and to gather the data of all who are connected with these families which traces through so many generations. But the kindred may be assured that no small pains have been taken to secure as reliable and as accurate a record as could be made under existing circumstances. In the abundance of material furnished it is evident some one is needed to be the final judge of what should be admitted for publication. With no wish to be arbitrary and with deep interest in all concerned, I have made the necessary decision with all the fairness possible and have endeavored to do justly in every case. The book has been as conveniently arranged as we could make it. Of over eight hundred names in the book, all are numbered in regular order and alphabetically indexed, so that they can be turned to at once.
