Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the major steps in the synthesis of switching circuits containing memory is the binary coding of the internal states. The choice of code, called the state assignment, strongly affects the complexity of the circuit realization. Hence, the objective is to find, for a given sequential machine (SM) as typically specified by a flow table and an output table, that state assignment (SA) which minimizes the sequential circuit (SC) complexity. The point of view is taken that the greatest lack in promoting an understanding of the SA problem is a knowledge of the structure of the relationship between the properties of the SM and the properties of the logic required by its SC realization. Consequently, a large part of this report is devoted to developing and using some new techniques for studying the structure of this SM-SC relationship. (Author).

This book was released on 1964 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two state-assignment algorithms are developed, one of which has been programmed for a computer and will handle sequential machines as large as 128 states and 64 inputs. A flow table is used as the machine representation, and properties of the flow table are used to establish state-pair adjacency relationships. For these adjacency relationships a weighting procedure is presented which is used in determining the state codes. The set of state codes used in the algorithms is selected from those sets having some special properties which not only allow preselection of the codes but also reduce the enumeration required in the algorithms. In general, low-cost assignments were obtained without expending large amounts of time. (Author)

This book was released on 1961 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The way in which states are assigned in synchronous sequential networks greatly influences the cost of the associated logic. The state assignment problem is discussed, and an assignment technique is described that is very effective for non-cyclic circuits whose logical equations contain les than five variables. The principal advantages of this technique are that it is simple and that it can be applied effectively to find low-cost assignments for almost all synchronous sequential networks. A new approach to the assignment problem is introduced. Statistical predictions rather than absolute minimality are used as a criterion for evaluating the quality of an assignment. An assignment is considered to be good if the probability of finding a better assignment is small. (Author).

Download or read book Analysis of Iterative NOR Autonomous Sequential Machines written by William F. King (III.) and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The autonomous behavior of an array of identical elements is investigated and found to be related closely to the structure of the array. Each element consists of a symmetric Boolean function of the inputs and one unit of delay. The interconnection of the elements is described in a matrix. A function in the element is universal and minimal if there exists an nXn interconnection matrix that will generate each of the autonomous state diagrams of 2[superscript]n states. It is shown no such function can exist.

Book Synopsis EBOOK: Fundamentals of Digital Logic by : Stephen Brown
Download or read book EBOOK: Fundamentals of Digital Logic written by Stephen Brown and published by McGraw Hill. This book was released on 2008-07-16 with total page 958 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamentals of Digital Logic with VHDL Design teaches the basic design techniques for logic circuits. The text ptovides a clear and easily understandable discussion of logic circuit design without the use of unnecessary formalism. It emphasizes the synthesis of circuits and explains how circuits are implemented in real chips. Fundamental concepts are illustrated by using small examples, which are easy to understand. Then, a modular approach is used to show how larger circuits are designed. VHDL is a complex language so it is introduced gradually in the book. Each VHDL feature is presented as it becomes pertinent for the circuits being discussed. While it includes a discussion of VHDL, the book provides thorough coverage of the fundamental concepts of logic circuit design, independent of the use of VHDL and CAD tools. A CD-ROM containg all of the VHDL design examples used in the book, as well Altera's Quartus II CAD software, is included free with every text.
