Book excerpt: 'From the way her buttocks looked under the black silk dress, I knew she'd be good in bed' So begins the most hardboiled of Latimer's novels, whose notoriety meant that it was only published in unexpurgated form in the States in 1982, 40 years after its original publication. In this classic noir novel, St Louis private eye Karl Craven, who likes his steak rare, his liquor hard and his women fallen, arrives at the small town of Paulton to protect his wealthy client's daughter from a religious cult. He soon finds himself involved with various unsavoury characters, as well as a femme fatale named Princess, and proves more than a match for the worst of them.

These are both almost immediately killed in a car crash however and Andrew finds himself, with both the compensation from the bank and his wife’s insurance, a rich man. He takes a Mediterranean cruise to get away from it all but falls off the boat one night and is rescued by some French fishermen. He buys a small car, and on the drive home stops at a small town in thes Avergne and finds himself looking at a notice in an Estate Agent’s window: For sale – established riverside B&B with small vineyard. He is hugely attracted to the idea – also to Sabine, the young Eastate Agent, and with the help of her uncle Gabriel puts his considerable funds into developing the Vineyard and making their own wine instead of sending the grapes to the local co-operative, which incurs the growing hostility of some of the neighbours ; Geoges Cortou, President of the Co-op ,in particular. Despite this, the reputation of the Vineyard contines to grow until some decide they have to get rid of the ‘English’ at all costs....

Download or read book Song of Songs written by J. Cheryl Exum and published by Westminster John Knox Press. This book was released on 2005-10-17 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This original commentary foregrounds at every turn the poetic genius of the Song of Songs, one of the most elusive texts of the Hebrew Bible. J. Cheryl Exum locates that genius in the way the Song not only tells but shows its readers that love is strong as death, thereby immortalizing love, as well as in the way the poet explores the nature of love by a mature sensitivity to how being in love is different for the woman and the man. Many long-standing conundrums in the interpretation of the book are offered persuasive solutions in Exum's verse by verse exegesis. The Old Testament Library provides fresh and authoritative treatments of important aspects of Old Testament study through commentaries and general surveys. The contributors are scholars of international standing.

Book excerpt: I feel this book of scripture is best looked at as a group of songs rather than one flowing song. There will be a lot of jumping back and forth between past and present through these different songs and story and I want to do my best to clarify that when we go through it. This book of the Bible is a very interesting one that looks deep between the relationship of the believer and Jesus Christ. Solomon is, of course, the writer (as we will see in a moment) and it is certainly something that is applicable for himself as he will be the shepherd that the Shulamite woman falls in love with. Solomon can do nothing but write about himself, seeing as this is what he was experiencing. The important thing to note and remember through this reading is (whether Solomon understood it or not) this wasn't about him. It was about Christ. All of scripture was/is about Christ. There are a plethra of books writen and recorded by Solomon that are not even located in scripture. Some are found in books like the Apocrypha, and others are books that have not made their way into scripture (perhaps things like journal entries). Other holy books even talk about Solomon and his glory (including, but not limited to the Quran). Solomon is a widely known figure in the religious circles, but there was something that shouldn't lost on mere religion alone. Solomon knew the God of the Bible. He conversed with God. He desired to lead the people FOR God. Jerusalem needed a Godly leader, and Solomon was the one chosen for the job. Through all his wisdom, he eventually understands the relationship aspect that God desires, and I believe that God reveals this through this story/song.

This book was released on 2012-05-02 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are different interpretations of the biblical book, Song of Solomon. This is understandable because interpretations of the book roots are in faith traditions and interpreters experiences of the Holy Spirit. The different interpretations of the book of Song of Solomon give insight that affirms God at work in the interpreters when the message of God is heard anew through each approach. Some interpret Song of Solomon as allegorical biblical text. This interpretation asserts the book of Song of Solomon, as a love story between God and the church, or Christ and the Church. Another allegorical interpretation of the book asserts the book, Song of Solomon, as a love story between Christ and the soul. Others interpret the book, Song of Solomon, as literal biblical text, read in a normal way. One literal interpretation of the book, Song of Solomon, asserts the book a love story between a young woman and a youth, who is a shepherd. In this interpretation the young woman rejects the love of the most powerful man on earth, Solomon, to embrace the love of a young shepherd. She marries the shepherd, and their marriage blooms in nature.
