In shape it is an irregular oval, with its long axis north and south. The maximum width, about 195 miles, is attained at the utah-idaho boundary. From this point the valley narrows both north and south. About two-thirds of the valley, a segment 44 miles in length, lies in Utah, and it is this part which is covered by this survey. It contains 450 square miles, or acres. No base map was available for the plotting of the soil and the base map used was made by plane-table traverse.
