Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computational Finance, an exciting new cross-disciplinary research area, depends extensively on the tools and techniques of computer science, statistics, information systems and financial economics for educating the next generation of financial researchers, analysts, risk managers, and financial information technology professionals. This new discipline, sometimes also referred to as "Financial Engineering" or "Quantitative Finance" needs professionals with extensive skills both in finance and mathematics along with specialization in computer science. Soft-Computing in Capital Market hopes to fulfill the need of applications of this offshoot of the technology by providing a diverse collection of cross-disciplinary research. This edited volume covers most of the recent, advanced research and practical areas in computational finance, starting from traditional fundamental analysis using algebraic and geometric tools to the logic of science to explore information from financial data without prejudice. Utilizing various methods, computational finance researchers aim to determine the financial risk with greater precision that certain financial instruments create. In this line of interest, twelve papers dealing with new techniques and/or novel applications related to computational intelligence, such as statistics, econometrics, neural- network, and various numerical algorithms are included in this volume.

This book was released on 2011-01-21 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Currently the methods of Soft Computing are successfully used for risk analysis in: budgeting, e-commerce development, portfolio selection, Black-Scholes option pricing models, corporate acquisition systems, evaluating investments in advanced manufacturing technology, interactive fuzzy interval reasoning for smart web shopping, fuzzy scheduling and logistic. An essential feature of economic and financial problems it that there are always at least two criteria to be taken into account: profit maximization and risk minimization. Therefore, the economic and financial problems are multiple criteria ones. In this book, a new systematization of the problems of multiple criteria decision making is proposed which allows the author to reveal unsolved problems. The solutions of them are presented as well and implemented to deal with some important real-world problems such as investment project’s evaluation, tool steel material selection problem, stock screening and fuzzy logistic. It is well known that the best results in real -world applications can be obtained using the synthesis of modern methods of soft computing. Therefore, the developed by the author new approach to building effective stock trading systems, based on the synthesis of fuzzy logic and the Dempster-Shafer theory, seems to be a considerable contribution to the application of soft computing method in economics and finance. An important problem of capital budgeting is the fuzzy evaluation of the Internal Rate of Return. In this book, this problem is solved using a new method which makes it possible to solve linear and nonlinear interval and fuzzy equations and systems of them. The developed new method allows the author to obtain an effective solution of the Leontjev’s input-output problem in the interval setting.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Designing Stock Market Trading Systems Bruce Vanstone and Tobias Hahn guide you through their tried and tested methodology for building rule-based stock market trading systems using both fundamental and technical data. This book shows the steps required to design and test a trading system until a trading edge is found, how to use artificial neural networks and soft computing to discover an edge and exploit it fully. Learn how to build trading systems with greater insight and dependability than ever before Most trading systems today fail to incorporate data from existing research into their operation. This is where Vanstone and Hahn's methodology is unique. Designed to integrate the best of past research on the workings of financial markets into the building of new trading systems, this synthesis helps produce stock market trading systems with unrivalled depth and accuracy. This book therefore includes a detailed review of key academic research, showing how to test existing research, how to take advantage of it by developing it into a rule-based trading system, and how to improve it with artificial intelligence techniques. The ideas and methods described in this book have been tried and tested in the heat of the market. They have been used by hedge funds to build their trading systems. Now you can use them too.

Book excerpt: "Soft Computing and its Applications in Business and Economics," or SC-BE for short, is a work whose importance is hard to exaggerate. Authored by leading contributors to soft computing and its applications, SC-BE is a sequel to an earlier book by Professors R. A. Aliev and R. R. Aliev, "Soft Computing and Its Applications," World Scientific, 200l. SC-BE is a self-contained exposition of the foundations of soft computing, and presents a vast compendium of its applications to business, finance, decision analysis and economics. One cannot but be greatly impressed by the wide variety of applications - applications ranging from use of fuzzy logic in transportation and health case systems, to use of a neuro-fuzzy approach to modeling of credit risk in trading, and application of soft computing to e-commerce. To view the contents of SC-BE in a clearer perspective, a bit of history is in order. In science, as in other realms of human activity, there is a tendency to be nationalistic - to commit oneself to a particular methodology and relegate to a position of inferiority or irrelevance all alternative methodologies. As we move further into the age of machine intelligence and automated reasoning, we run into more and more problems which do not lend themselves to solution through the use of our favorite methodology.

Book excerpt: The book titled "Prediction of Stock Market Index Movements with Machine Learning" focuses on the performance of machine learning methods in forecasting the future movements of stock market indexes and identifying the most advantageous methods that can be used across different stock exchanges. In this context, applications have been conducted on both developed and emerging market stock exchanges. The stock market indexes of developed countries such as NYSE 100, NIKKEI 225, FTSE 100, CAC 40, DAX 30, FTSE MIB, TSX; and the stock market indexes of emerging countries such as SSE, BOVESPA, RTS, NIFTY 50, IDX, IPC, and BIST 100 were selected. The movement directions of these stock market indexes were predicted using decision trees, random forests, k-nearest neighbors, naive Bayes, logistic regression, support vector machines, and artificial neural networks methods. Daily dataset from 01.01.2012 to 31.12.2021, along with technical indicators, were used as input data for analysis. According to the results obtained, it was determined that artificial neural networks were the most effective method during the examined period. Alongside artificial neural networks, logistic regression and support vector machines methods were found to predict the movement direction of all indexes with an accuracy of over 70%. Additionally, it was noted that while artificial neural networks were identified as the best method, they did not necessarily achieve the highest accuracy for all indexes. In this context, it was established that the performance of the examined methods varied among countries and indexes but did not differ based on the development levels of the countries. As a conclusion, artificial neural networks, logistic regression, and support vector machines methods are recommended as the most advantageous approaches for predicting stock market index movements.

Book excerpt: The authors have consolidated their research work in this volume titled Soft Computing for Data Mining Applications. The monograph gives an insight into the research in the ?elds of Data Mining in combination with Soft Computing methodologies. In these days, the data continues to grow - ponentially. Much of the data is implicitly or explicitly imprecise. Database discovery seeks to discover noteworthy, unrecognized associations between the data items in the existing database. The potential of discovery comes from the realization that alternate contexts may reveal additional valuable information. The rate at which the data is storedis growing at a phenomenal rate. Asaresult, traditionaladhocmixturesofstatisticaltechniquesanddata managementtools are no longer adequate for analyzing this vast collection of data. Severaldomainswherelargevolumesofdataarestoredincentralizedor distributeddatabasesincludesapplicationslikeinelectroniccommerce,bio- formatics, computer security, Web intelligence, intelligent learning database systems,?nance, marketing, healthcare, telecommunications, andother?elds. E?cient tools and algorithms for knowledge discovery in large data sets have been devised during the recent years. These methods exploit the ca- bility of computers to search huge amounts of data in a fast and e?ective manner. However, the data to be analyzed is imprecise and a?icted with - certainty. In the case of heterogeneous data sources such as text and video, the data might moreover be ambiguous and partly con?icting. Besides, p- terns and relationships of interest are usually approximate. Thus, in order to make the information mining process more robust it requires tolerance toward imprecision, uncertainty and exceptions.
