Book excerpt: BACHELORS OF SHOTGUN RIDGE – BOOKS 1-3 From a USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author of over 30 romance novels comes a series all about cowboys, community spirit and feel-good emotions. What do readers get with a Mindy Neff book? Small town romance filled with laughter and emotion, tough-guy heroes who are gentle and kind, and secondary characters—both human and animal—who help keep everyone stirred up! Books that touch your heart. Wanted: Women and Babies. Where: Shotgun Ridge, Montana. When: As soon as possible! Convincing this town’s perfectly happy, commitment-shy bachelor cowboys to say “I do” is going to take some doing. But the four well-meaning old matchmakers of Shotgun Ridge, Montana are up for the challenge—with some hilarious and emotional results. Book #1—THE RANCHER’S MAIL-ORDER BRIDE Wyatt Malone had been ambushed! The little boy staring earnestly at him thought Wyatt was his new dad—and the boy’s pregnant mommy claimed to be his bride-to-be. The old matchmakers had gone too far this time and now it was up to Wyatt to tell Hannah Richmond and her adorable son that they’d been had by four well-meaning old cowpokes. Except that when Hannah looked at him like he was the best thing since sliced bread and made him feel like a complete man, Wyatt began to think that maybe the old fellas were right—and that could be dangerous for the whole town! “A story full of heart and humor . . . vulnerable rancher Wyatt Malone will melt readers’ hearts.” –Romantic Time Magazine (4 ½ GOLD MEDAL) TOP PICK and W.I.S.H. award recipient for outstanding hero. Especially when the child was his—and was hand delivered by the preacher’s daughter! Good thing a full-grown woman came with the baby, because while Ethan was renowned for his know-how with females, he knew next to nothing about kids. Dora Watkins had specific instructions from her sweet charge’s mama to make certain Ethan would change his ways to care for his own. But the otherwise prim-and-proper Dora also wanted something in return from the playboy—a night in his arms. “With her flair for humor intact, Mindy Neff will once again delight.” –Romantic Times Magazine (4 ½ GOLD MEDAL) TOP PICK. Book #3—THE HORSEMAN’S CONVENIENT WIFE Not in name only . . .? Single father, horse whisperer, Stony Stratton was sure he was safe from the meddling matchmakers of Shotgun Ridge . . . until Eden Williams arrived on his ranch with an outrageous proposal. Eden had only six months to make a baby or forever hold her peace. Stony was just the man for the job. A gentle giant if there ever was one, he embodied all of the good qualities Eden hoped to pass on to her child—and possessed all of the male sex appeal a woman could want. Taking Eden to bed would be Stony’s pleasure, but he wouldn’t do it without taking her down the aisle first. “Stony Stratton is a hero who would make it onto any woman’s wish list . . . Mindy Neff masterfully blends humor with a romance that will melt your heart. What results is sheer delight.” –Romantic Times Magazine (4 ½ GOLD MEDAL) TOP PICK and W.I.S.H. award recipient for outstanding hero.

Book excerpt: Wayne Mallory is a news reporter for The Chicago News Register on vacation at his parents’ luxurious Louisiana enclave, a heaven for wealthy African-Americans in the racist south. While there, he learns of the murder of a white sheriff’s deputy in the nearby town and goes there to get the details. Also on his mind is finding his first true love, a swarthy, curly-haired Cajun boy with eyes the color of amethysts named Andy Bourgeois, whom he met when he was fifteen and Andy, thirteen. Both of his quests are fulfilled when he finds Andy, who is the police department’s public liaison officer. Their reunion leads them onto paths seldom traveled in Louisiana, some of which are the best left alone. They are taken on a voyages that spans three-hundred years, back to colonial West Africa, where three little African sisters are kidnapped by Portuguese mercenaries and brought to the New World, where, separated, they are the seeds for three very distinct families; The Mallorys, who retained their African racial characteristics and prospered despite them, The Catashes, who long ago relinquished any ties to Africa and would go to any length, including murder, to stifle anyone who dares to remind them those ties; and The Bourgeois, who have no idea of their African ancestry. SKIN DEEP is a tapestry of interwoven stories and interwoven lives that crisscross like the warp and weft of a line Persian rug. The suffering and degradation of slavery, the lives and advantages of the Free People of Color in New Orleans, and the ordinary everyday lives of African Americans past and recent, that are revealed in all of their color and condor as the three sisters, now old women, tell their descendents of their lives since their capture. SKIN DEEP follows those descendents down to the late Twentieth Century. Throughout, Wayne and Andy are trying to establish a lasting, loving relationship as they try to solve the mystery of the deputy’s murder and the other, subsequent murders in what may become a bloofbath for untold riches and political power. It will keep you intrigued until the very end.

Download or read book Mahlangeni written by Kobie Kruger and published by Penguin Random House South Africa. This book was released on 2012-10-02 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mahlangeni, the Tsonga word for 'meeting place', is one of the most remote ranger stations in the Kruger National Park. Far from everywhere, this isolated corner of the wilderness was home for eleven years to Kobie Krüger, wife of the ranger in charge of the station, and their three daughters. Running a household and raising a family in a place where leopards, elephants, snakes and the like are your only neighbours, where you have no telephone, and where a trip to town means first crossing a river full of hippos and crocodiles, is hardly a straightforward business. But Kobie Krüger tackled each problem with undaunted pragmatism and an energy that gives new meaning to the word resourceful. Written with warmth, humour and a charm that reflects her deep love of the solitude of the wilderness and her respect for its creatures, great and small, her story of life at Mahlangeni will delight all lovers of wild places.

Download or read book Easy Readin' written by No Author Kelley and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2009-02-20 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is basically a collection of poems on various subjects. This is not classic poetry. I frankly started out one night to write something in basic essay/paragraph format and while I had a lot going through my mind, I ended up jotting down a few notes, then at some point, I found that I was stringing those notes together, putting them in basic rhyme and my first writing turned into what I suppose can be considered a poem For the People. I found this an interesting and convenient way to express thoughts on a variety of issues and from there, many followed; mainly that year and some more the following years. I dont know whether anyone will find interest in what I have written here. And, if so, I dont really know who. There are no real secrets or wisdom in this book; but, hopefully, some will enjoy it. The great majority of this book was written in 1993. I had gotten out of the Navy where I had been enlisted from Oct 1977 Oct 1992. For the year 1993, I was basically able to take a year off without working. This material was only copyrighted in 2009, and none of it has been made public before now.

Rebecca's story is one of strength, challenges, and the understanding that God has something better in store for her.
