Book Synopsis Uncertainty and the Employment Dynamics of Small and Large Businesses by : Vivek Ghosal
Download or read book Uncertainty and the Employment Dynamics of Small and Large Businesses written by Vivek Ghosal and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2015-01-14 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We examine the impact of uncertainty on employment dynamics. Alternative measures of uncertainty are constructed based on the survey of professional forecasters, and regressionbased forecasting models for GDP growth, inflation, S&P500 stock price index, and fuel prices. Our results indicate that greater uncertainty has a negative impact on growth of employment, and the effects are primarily felt by the relatively smaller businesses; the impact on large businesses are generally non-existent or weaker. Our results suggest that to truly understand the effects of uncertainty on employment dynamics, we need to focus on the relatively smaller and entrepreneurial businesses. We discuss implications for the framing of economic policy.

Book excerpt: As our understanding of the importance of large woody debris (LWD) evolves, planning for its production in riparian forest management is becoming more widely recognized. This report details the development of a model (CWD, version 1.4) that predicts LWD inputs, including descriptions of the field sampling used to parameterize parts of the model, the theoretical and practical underpinnings of the model's structure, and a case study of CWD's application to a stream in Wyoming's Bridger-Teton National Forest.
Book Synopsis Small, Large and Median Groups by : Rachel Lenn
Download or read book Small, Large and Median Groups written by Rachel Lenn and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-03-22 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'This book is a remarkable tribute to the memory of Pat de Mare. You will find in these pages a selection of his work that represents his new and different understanding of groups, both large and small, that has not only had a significant impact on the practice of group therapy in his lifetime, but also a potential for revolutionizing current thinking both now and in the future. The editors are owed a great debt of gratitude for putting so much important work together. They have organized the book around three sections on the small, median and large groups. What is particularly moving is that each section is introduced by some of Pat's closest friends and colleagues. These introductions are not only invaluable preparation for reading the articles by Pat that follow, but are also a poignant tribute to the writers' lives, work, their thinking and much happiness that came from their close relationship with Pat.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With new technologies, such as computer vision, internet of things, mobile computing, e-governance and e-commerce, and wide applications of social media, organizations generate a huge volume of data and at a much faster rate than several years ago. Big data in large-/small-scale systems, characterized by high volume, diversity, and velocity, increasingly drives decision making and is changing the landscape of business intelligence. From governments to private organizations, from communities to individuals, all areas are being affected by this shift. There is a high demand for big data analytics that offer insights for computing efficiency, knowledge discovery, problem solving, and event prediction. To handle this demand and this increase in big data, there needs to be research on innovative and optimized machine learning algorithms in both large- and small-scale systems. Applications of Big Data in Large- and Small-Scale Systems includes state-of-the-art research findings on the latest development, up-to-date issues, and challenges in the field of big data and presents the latest innovative and intelligent applications related to big data. This book encompasses big data in various multidisciplinary fields from the medical field to agriculture, business research, and smart cities. While highlighting topics including machine learning, cloud computing, data visualization, and more, this book is a valuable reference tool for computer scientists, data scientists and analysts, engineers, practitioners, stakeholders, researchers, academicians, and students interested in the versatile and innovative use of big data in both large-scale and small-scale systems.

Book Synopsis Fighting Back the Von Neumann Bottleneck with Small- and Large-Scale Vector Microprocessors by : Matheus Cavalcante
Download or read book Fighting Back the Von Neumann Bottleneck with Small- and Large-Scale Vector Microprocessors written by Matheus Cavalcante and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2023-08-24 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his seminal Turing Award Lecture, Backus discussed the issues stemming from the word-at-a-time style of programming inherited from the von Neumann computer. More than forty years later, computer architects must be creative to amortize the von Neumann Bottleneck (VNB) associated with fetching and decoding instructions which only keep the datapath busy for a very short period of time. In particular, vector processors promise to be one of the most efficient architectures to tackle the VNB, by amortizing the energy overhead of instruction fetching and decoding over several chunks of data. This work explores vector processing as an option to build small and efficient processing elements for large-scale clusters of cores sharing access to tightly-coupled L1 memory
