Book Synopsis Aramaic and Figural Stamp Impressions on Bricks of the Sixth Century B.C. from Babylon by : Benjamin Sass
Download or read book Aramaic and Figural Stamp Impressions on Bricks of the Sixth Century B.C. from Babylon written by Benjamin Sass and published by Otto Harrassowitz Verlag. This book was released on 2010 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book addresses the 335 Aramaic and figural impressions on bricks of the sixth century B.C., most of them uncovered during the German excavations in 1899-1917. This treasure trove, that remained practically unpublished for a hundred years, is well dated by cuneiform impressions, found on the same bricks, of Nebuchadnezzar II (605-562 B.C.) and his immediate successors. The Aramaic and figural brick impressions close a gap in our knowledge about Aramaic palaeography (the stamp legends are in the monumental script, hitherto poorly documented for the sixth century), contribute to our understanding of the onomasticon and the iconography of the period, and touch upon the history of the Aramaean presence in Babylon and upon the royal building activity there.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Slowly she stepped down from the truck, eyes scanning the surroundings for a sign of something pleasant but seeing only scrub, dirt and a small, grey shed. As a young and genteel English woman, Stacy is a wife with a past of perceived abandonment. She goes back to a lifestyle of hardship, isolation and limited facilities, working beside her young husband to clear and carve out a home and farm from a virgin block of bush. In this remote environment, with the loving support of her husband, companionship of people from a past era and her close friend, she endures climatic extremes and frightening wildlife. Can she build a new, loved Stacy in the environment of her new home and a town brimming with history? A tribute to the brave women who left behind comfortable homes to support their returned soldiers. Isolated but happy, they worked together with their husbands on soldiersettlement farms in their quest to build something to call their own.

Book Synopsis Junkers Ju 87 Stukageschwader 1937–41 by : John Weal
Download or read book Junkers Ju 87 Stukageschwader 1937–41 written by John Weal and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2012-11-20 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ju 87 Stuka was the most feared weapon in the German arsenal in the first year of World War 2, the Luftwaffe using it to deadly effect during the Blitzkrieg between September 1939 and June 1940. Although vulnerable to the enemy fighters due to its moderate speed in level flight and general lack of manoeuvrability, the Ju 87 nevertheless soon came to symbolise the might of Nazi Germany as the mere handful of Stukageschwader supporting the Wehrmacht rampaging out of the Fatherland took a heavy toll of the Allied forces.

Book Synopsis The Critics' Canon by : Richard Hudson Palmer
Download or read book The Critics' Canon written by Richard Hudson Palmer and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 1988-10-19 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Palmer clearly states that his purpose is to explain 1the ways of critics to theatre practitioners, the ways of theatre to inexperienced reviewers, and the dynamic convergence of theatre and critic to anyone interested in theatre.' . . . The work is a well-written `primer' for writers and it will be useful primarily to performers who object to unfavorable `criticsm' without understanding the nature and purpose of reviewing. Accessible to general readers and undergraduates. Choice Palmer begins with an examination of the theatrical review as a medium for informing and entertaining theatregoers, documenting events of artistic of community importance, and supporting theatre through critical evaluation and publicity. He next comments on how journalistic pressures affect reviewers. Citing brief examples from hundreds of reviews, the author devotes a chapter to each of the elements that needs to be covered in a review, including performers, script, direction, music, and choreography, together with stage and lighting design and other physical aspects of the production. The final chapter develops criteria for assessing the strengths and weaknesses of a theatrical review, based on aesthetic standards, the cultural tastes of theatregoers, and the interests of the community. Palmer's experience as both a theatre professional and a journalist gives him an intimate understanding of the antagonism that often develops between reviewers and those who feel themselves to be the target of irresponsible criticism. His book provides a clear perspective on theatrical matters and guidelines that will help to improve standards of reviewing and create an appreciation of the essential relationship between the theatre and its critics.

Book Synopsis The Power of Small by : Linda Kaplan Thaler
Download or read book The Power of Small written by Linda Kaplan Thaler and published by Currency. This book was released on 2009-04-21 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors of the national bestseller THE POWER OF NICE once again tackle conventional wisdom with a provocative and counterintuitive book about the importance of sweating the small stuff in our lives and in our careers. Our smallest actions and gestures often have outsized impact on our biggest goals, say Linda Kaplan Thaler and Robin Koval. Did you double-check that presentation one last time, or hold the elevator for a stranger? Going that extra inch – whether with a client, customer, family member, or friend – speaks volumes to others about our talent, personality, and motivations. After all, if we can’t take care of the small details, how can we be counted on to deliver when it really matters? In today’s challenging times, bigger isn’t always better. In fact, it’s often the baby steps that put us on the path to delivering a true competitive advantage. The real secret to getting ahead in life and in our careers is to refocus our attention on the small details that, if disregarded, can sabotage a multimillion-dollar ad campaign or undermine your most important relationships. Kaplan Thaler and Koval show how to get more of what you want with surprisingly less than you’d imagine. Written in the same entertaining, story-driven style that made THE POWER OF NICE the go-to book for finishing first, THE POWER OF SMALL demonstrates how all of us can harness the power of small to improve and reinvent our lives. It’s the ultimate guide to shrinking your outlook to broaden your horizons. Get SMALL and get going!

Book Synopsis Gastrointestinal Radiology by : Ronald L. Eisenberg
Download or read book Gastrointestinal Radiology written by Ronald L. Eisenberg and published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. This book was released on 2003 with total page 1264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unique among all medical texts on the subject, this volume provides a direct, stepwise approach to the differential diagnosis of abnormal findings on gastrointestinal radiographs. Each of the book's 80 chapters shows a specific radiographic pattern...lists every disease entity it could possibly be...and helps the reader confirm, refine, or reject differential diagnoses to reach the best clinical diagnosis. Using a "pattern approach," chapters focus on specific radiologic abnormal appearances rather than disease entities and outline the typical signs, symptoms, and predisposing factors for the abnormality. This edition features hundreds of new images and a new section on MRI of the liver.
