Book excerpt: A compassionate, shame-free guide for your darkest days “A one-of-a-kind book . . . to read for yourself or give to a struggling friend or loved one without the fear that depression and suicidal thoughts will be minimized, medicalized or over-spiritualized.”—Kay Warren, cofounder of Saddleback Church What happens when loving Jesus doesn’t cure you of depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts? You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.

Book Synopsis Small Talk and Simple Things by : Meryl Elizabeth Mathew
Download or read book Small Talk and Simple Things written by Meryl Elizabeth Mathew and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2020-10-13 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When I first sat face to face with the reality of looking out for my soul mate by browsing through an App that supposedly connected families I was completely against the concept. I honestly did not even know how to go about with the awkward first conversation, let alone think about spending the rest of my life with someone I would meet only once or twice before the big day. This fear of the unknown pertained back then, because I never knew that the experience would actually allow me to grow into the better person that I have become today. Some of these tales from my own experience did make me feel blue at the time, but today it brings a smile to my face because of the valuable lesson I have learnt from it while some others still make me laugh every time it crosses my mind. This got me wondering, wouldn’t people around me, friends, friends of friends and families across cultures who have adopted the concept of arranged marriage have such interesting stories to tell from their experience? Perhaps if these stories were entailed like a wise woman’s tale it could maybe ease the pressure off arranged marriage for someone who is new to it. One thing’s for sure we all have a soul mate who we will meet at the right time but while we are in this process of swiping right and left we do bump into some interesting characters who for many reasons may or may not be the one for us but in-turn become a memorable chapter in our story. This book entails 12 such hand-picked stories that will inspire you to experience the process of arranged marriage not for anyone else but for yourself. It could perhaps even make couples who fell in love and got married wonder if they possibly missed out on something

Book Synopsis Book of Mormon Seminary Home-Study Guide by : The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
Download or read book Book of Mormon Seminary Home-Study Guide written by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and published by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 723 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The home-study seminary program is designed to help you strengthen your understanding of the gospel of Jesus Christ and apply its teachings in your daily life through a study of the scriptures. For your study this school year, you will first complete reading assignments from the scripture text for this course—the Book of Mormon—and then you will complete the individual lessons. Once a week you will meet with a seminary teacher to submit your work and participate in a weekly lesson. Seminary is a daily religious education program. Prayerfully studying your scriptures should be a daily practice. You will need to work on your seminary assignments each school day, even though you will not attend a seminary class each day. There are 32 units to be completed during the course. The reading chart on page viii shows what you should study for each unit. Your teacher will help you understand when each unit is due. The lessons in this study guide should each take about 30 minutes to complete, in addition to your daily scripture study. You should have two scripture study journals (or two notebooks), separate from your personal journal, in which you will write the assignments from the study guide activities. Each week that you meet with your teacher, you should turn in the scripture study journal containing the completed assignments from the study guide activities you completed for that week. Your teacher will read and respond to the assignments and return that scripture study journal to you the following week. You could also write your responses on paper in a loose-leaf binder and turn in the pages you did that week. Then, when your teacher returns the pages, you could put them back into the notebook."

Fatigued and overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information, the myriad of choices our technologically advanced communication era offers, we lose sight of what life is all about. How do we find balance and harmony in this overloaded world? And how do we navigate life in tune with our soul as well as with modern society? As author Darren Cockburn explains, we are all part of one big universal process that encompasses and connects everything--every thought, emotion, action, nature, all there is. Over the centuries, religions and philosophies have provided direction on how to act ethically and in accordance with this process, yet in our modern world, these “rules” may seem outdated or too rigid. Integrating and updating existing guidance from Buddhism, Yoga, and other great teachings, the author offers 7 guidelines for living a life of harmony and balance: honor the body, bring awareness and acceptance into every moment, act with kindness, understand the truth and communicate it skillfully, do only what needs to be done, harmoniously obtain and retain only what you need, and apply the guidelines to your digital device usage. He illustrates how and why each of these guidelines hold value, revealing their interconnections, and explains how to implement them practically in daily life, sharing real-life examples as well as practices to support each guideline and deepen your existing spiritual practice. The author explores how the 7 easy-to-practice guidelines help us gain a deeper understanding of the universal process of life, as well as provide a set of tools to help us deal with life’s ups and downs more skillfully. They enable us to face life empowered and confident, peacefully observe and accept what life presents us with, cultivate compassion and kindness, as well as spread mindfulness to those around us. Practiced together, these guidelines provide a simple yet powerful compass to guide you to a peaceful mind and harmonious living, much needed in today’s world.
