Book excerpt: Excerpt from Looking Skyward and the Earth: Illustrated Though technicalities are absolutely necessary in the fuller understanding of astronomy, I have avoided the more intricate parts and endeavored to frame my explanations in ordinary language so that all classes of readers can understand. So to reach the masses is my chief object, - my apology - and to be of aid even to the mathematician or professor, not an impediment. Though my helps, in proper instruments, etc., etc., are very limited, pains have been taken to avoid errors. Yet they will be found. Perfection is not attained at a bound. Download or read book The Tracer Gas Method of Determining the Charging Efficiency of Two-stroke-cycle Diesel Engines written by P. H. Schweitzer and published by . This book was released on 1942 with total page 564 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A convenient method has been developed for determining the scavenging efficiency or the charging efficiency of two-stroke-cycle engines. The method consists of introducing a suitable tracer gas into the inlet air of the running engine and measuring chemically its concentration both in the inlet and exhaust gas. Monomethylamine CH3NH2 was found suitable for the purpose as it burns almost completely during combustion, whereas the "short-circuited" portion does not burn at all and can be determined quantitatively in the exhaust. The method was tested both on four-stroke and on two-stroke engines and is considered accurate within 1 percent.

Book excerpt: The complete STONEWYLDE saga, collected together for the first time! Here are all five STONEWYLDE novels. This cult series is a magical tale of love, anger and loss - but also, finally, of triumph against all adversity. Stonewylde is an alternative community, hidden away in the heart of Dorset and ruled by the charismatic Magus. It's a place of standing stones and earth energy - a place where the old ways are remembered. Within a great stone circle the eight pagan festivals are celebrated and ancient rites performed. The thirteen full moons are honoured and the people live natural and uncomplicated lives, as their ancestors have done for hundreds of years. But all is not quite as it seems. There's another side to Stonewylde; a darker side where cruelty is rife. Sylvie and her mother are invited into the community, victims of modern life. Suffering from the stresses of inner city life, they believe that by entering the enclosed world of Stonewylde, their troubles will be over. Magus promises them fulfilment; that they will lack for nothing. He promises to heal them and care for them, calling on the green magic that pervades everything at Stonewylde. But one boy alone - Yul - understands the true reason for their invitation, and what malevolence their arrival has triggered. As the series unfolds, the struggle between Yul and his master becomes more brutal and the stakes are raised. Sylvie is in terrible danger as an old prophecy is revealed and the pieces of the puzzle start to slide into place. Sylvie and Yul must battle not only to save themselves, but the very heart of Stonewylde.
Book Synopsis A Hope for Philosophy II by : Ye Xiushan
Download or read book A Hope for Philosophy II written by Ye Xiushan and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-10-20 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the final work by Ye Xiushan, one of the most famous philosophers and philosophy scholars in China, this two-volume title scrutinizes the historical development of both Chinese and Western philosophies, aiming to explore the convergence between the two philosophical traditions. Combining the historical examination and argumentation based on philosophical problematics, the two-volume set expounds the key figures and schools and critical thoughts in both Western and Chinese philosophical histories. The second volume retraces the origin and development of Chinese philosophy and reveals its focal grounds, i.e. a trinity of man, Heaven, and earth, which helps explain why and how it diverges from Western way of philosophizing. This book also delineates the diachronic transitions of Chinese philosophy that critically embrace different schools of thought throughout history, including Confucianism, Daoism, Buddhism, and Marxism, etc., and then constitutes an organic whole. To elicit the potential for a new transformation of contemporary Chinese philosophy, the author encourages a constructive dialogue between the Chinese and Western philosophies. This title will appeal to scholars, students, and general readers interested in philosophical history, comparative philosophy, Chinese philosophy, and Western philosophy ranging over Greek philosophy, German classic philosophy, and contemporary continental philosophy.
