Download or read book When Leadership and Spiritual Direction Meet written by Gil W. Stafford and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2014-06-11 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern church leaders need to cultivate innovative and creative leadership skills, as they navigate today’s post-Christian world, and as their congregations look to them for insight and guidance. Gil Stafford takes a fresh look at this vital need, drawing upon his experience as a college coach, university president, and parish priest, and interweaving them with ancient spiritual practices found within the discipline of spiritual direction. Personal anecdotes help the reader envision their own life-transforming pilgrimage, as they develop into the type of adaptive leader that churches need in today’s rapidly changing world. This book challenges church leaders to foster sacred safe space, holy listening, silence, and wisdom storytelling, in order to create a discerning church community. These techniques of spiritual direction can be applied to every aspect of the church, from small group studies to conducting parish business. Gradually the leader will be able to delegate some of his responsibilities to the congregation, liberating them to be leaders, and rescuing him from trying to be all things to all people.

Download or read book Wisdom Walking written by Gil Stafford and published by Church Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2017-04-01 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the course of countless miles and numerous days, we will mine the golden wisdom hidden within our pilgrimage experience. "Everyone has taken a pilgrimage," says author Gil Stafford "Some pilgrimages are intentional: I walked across Ireland. Some are unintentional: I walked my mother through the final days of her life. Life is a pilgrimage. But, do we walk intentionally, embracing the transformational process?" Stafford begins Wisdom Walking with the idea that life is a pilgrimage and uses this to guide readers on their own pilgrimage towards wisdom. He layers onto that idea the notion that on our pilgrimages of life we can be gaining wisdom about our lives. Stafford then adds the Jungian typology for gaining wisdom and tells all of this through stories of his own and others' pilgrimages in a very readable fashion. Life is a pilgrimage; make yours one that leads to greater wisdom!
Book Synopsis Religion and Media in China by : Stefania Travagnin
Download or read book Religion and Media in China written by Stefania Travagnin and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2016-11-10 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume focuses on the intersection of religion and media in China, bringing interdisciplinary approaches to bear on the role of religion in the lives of individuals and greater shifts within Chinese society in an increasingly media-saturated environment. With case studies focusing on Mainland China (including Tibet), Hong Kong and Taiwan, as well as diasporic Chinese communities outside Asia, contributors consider topics including the historical and ideological roots of media representations of religion, expressions of religious faith online and in social media, state intervention (through both censorship and propaganda), religious institutions’ and communities’ use of various forms of media, and the role of the media in relations between online/offline and local/diaspora communities. Chapters engage with the major religious traditions practiced in contemporary China, namely Buddhism, Daoism, Confucianism, Christianity, Islam, and new religious movements. Religion and the Media in China serves as a critical survey of case studies and suggests theoretical and methodological tools for a thorough and systematic study of religion in modern China. Contributors to the volume include historians of religion, sinologists, sociologists, political scientists, anthropologists, and media and communication scholars. The critical theories that contributors develop around key concepts in religion—such as authority, community, church, ethics, pilgrimage, ritual, text, and practice—contribute to advancing the emerging field of religion and media studies.
Book Synopsis The Garden of Divine Songs and Collected Poetry of Hryhory Skovoroda by : Hryhory Skovoroda
Download or read book The Garden of Divine Songs and Collected Poetry of Hryhory Skovoroda written by Hryhory Skovoroda and published by Glagoslav Publications. This book was released on 2018-01-01 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hryhory Skovoroda is considered by many as the first great Slavic philosopher and poet. Written over a period stretching from the 1750s until 1785, his The Garden of Divine Songs is a unique collection of 30 poems, featuring a complex system of strophic structures and with only a few of the songs written in a traditional way. Skovoroda never repeats one and the same strophic structure; this being the case, his Garden of Divine Songs according to writer-scholar Valery Shevchuk functions as a “practical guide to the art of poetry”, exemplifying all the meters and strophic patterns that were possible in Ukrainian poetry of that time. The poet makes masterful use of the accomplishments of academic poetry; the so-called “songs of the world” are the most prominent poems in this collection. These songs are an expression of Skovoroda's views in poetic form, and many ideas from The Garden of Divine Songs, such as the search for happiness in the world in song 21, would later form the basis for some of Skovoroda’s philosophical treatises. Skovoroda’s originality, and his ability to approach the most cardinal problems of human existence, stem from his capacity to combine known motifs, borrowed from literary sources such as classical texts, the Bible, and ancient Ukrainian poetic works, with his own system of thinking that focuses on his philosophy of the heart. The complete poems of Skovoroda are appearing in their entirety here in English for the first time, accompanied by a guest introduction by prominent Ukrainian writer Valery Shevchuk. Book Synopsis The Unforgettable Truth by : James Kee
Download or read book The Unforgettable Truth written by James Kee and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2019-06-24 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Greetings in the precious name of Jesus. I'm glad that you chose to pick this book up. It's a book written to encourage all who read it. A book based on the word of God and my life's desires and experiences. Here's a few examples: "By the Power Invested in Me" was inspired by Acts 1:8 to let every believer know that God has endowed us with the wisdom and power to be a witness of his love and grace in a day like today. "Lord, Save Some Soul Today" was inspired by Rom. 10:1, as we live right and serve as witnesses to God's word, the Bible tells us that God's word is spirit and life to all who believe and obey it. And "He's Coming Soon to Your Neighborhood" (inspired by Matt. 25:13) just sounds the alarm that the Lord is soon to come and that we should be ready when he comes. For if we are not ready for him, he's will be ready for us.
