Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book "TransMath - Innovative Solutions from Mathematical Technology" has been conceived as a tool for the dissemination of scientific knowledge. This publication is addressed to those companies with innovation needs that could be met through mathematical technology. The book maps both existing and possible interactions and connections that enable technology transfer between Spanish mathematical research and industrial and business sectors. Businesses can determine the level of implementation and demand for such technology within their sector and understand the benefits and innovations achieved in other companies and industries with the application of mathematical techniques. The information is classified into eleven sectors of economic activity: Biomedicine & Health; Construction; Economics & Finance; Energy & Environment; Food; ICT; Logistics & Transport; Management & Tourism; Metal & Machinery; Public Administration; and Technical Services.

Book Synopsis Interactions between Group Theory, Symmetry and Cryptology by : María Isabel González Vasco
Download or read book Interactions between Group Theory, Symmetry and Cryptology written by María Isabel González Vasco and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-04-22 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cryptography lies at the heart of most technologies deployed today for secure communications. At the same time, mathematics lies at the heart of cryptography, as cryptographic constructions are based on algebraic scenarios ruled by group or number theoretical laws. Understanding the involved algebraic structures is, thus, essential to design robust cryptographic schemes. This Special Issue is concerned with the interplay between group theory, symmetry and cryptography. The book highlights four exciting areas of research in which these fields intertwine: post-quantum cryptography, coding theory, computational group theory and symmetric cryptography. The articles presented demonstrate the relevance of rigorously analyzing the computational hardness of the mathematical problems used as a base for cryptographic constructions. For instance, decoding problems related to algebraic codes and rewriting problems in non-abelian groups are explored with cryptographic applications in mind. New results on the algebraic properties or symmetric cryptographic tools are also presented, moving ahead in the understanding of their security properties. In addition, post-quantum constructions for digital signatures and key exchange are explored in this Special Issue, exemplifying how (and how not) group theory may be used for developing robust cryptographic tools to withstand quantum attacks.
Book Synopsis Balanced Automation Systems by : Luis M. Camarinha-Matos
Download or read book Balanced Automation Systems written by Luis M. Camarinha-Matos and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-06-05 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Towards Balanced Automation The concept. Manufacturing industries worldwide are facing tough challenges as a consequence of the globalization of economy and the openness of the markets. Progress of the economic blocks such as the European Union, NAFTA, and MERCOSUR, and the global agreements such as GATT, in addition to their obvious economic and social consequences, provoke strong paradigm shifts in the way that the manufacturing systems are conceived and operate. To increase profitability and reduce the manufacturing costs, there is a recent tendency towards establishing partnership links among the involved industries, usually between big industries and the networks of components' suppliers. To benefit from the advances in technology, similar agreements are being established between industries and universities and research institutes. Such an open tete-cooperation network may be identified as an extended enterprise or a virtual enterprise. In fact, the manufacturing process is no more carried out by a single enterprise, rather each enterprise is just a node that adds some value (a step in the manufacturing chain) to the cooperation network of enterprises. The new trends create new scenarios and technological challenges, especially to the Small and Medium size Enterprises (SMEs) that clearly comprise the overwhelming majority of manufacturing enterprises worldwide. Under the classical scenarios, these SMEs would have had big difficulties to access or benefit from the state of the art technology, due to their limited human, financial, and material resources.

Book Synopsis Balanced Automation Systems II by : Luis M. Camarinha-Matos
Download or read book Balanced Automation Systems II written by Luis M. Camarinha-Matos and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: xiv box for Balanced Automation, research in this area is still young and emerging. In our opinion, the development of hybrid balanced solutions to cope with a variety of automation levels and manual approaches, is a much more challenging research problem than the search for a purely automatic solution. Various research activities described in this book illustrate some of these challenges through the development proposals, assisting tools, and initial results. In certain chapters however, the balancing aspects are not yet achieved in the research area, but their inclusion in this book is intended to give a broader and more comprehensive perspective of the multiple areas involved. One important aspect to be noticed is the extension and application of the concept of balanced automation to all areas of the manufacturing enterprise. Clearly, the need for a "balanced" approach is not restricted to the shop floor components, rather it applies to all other areas, as illustrated by the wide spectrum of research contributions found in this book. For instance, the need for an appropriate integration of multiple systems and their perspectives is particularly important for the implantation of virtual enterprises. Although both the BASYS'95 and the BASYS'96 conferences have provided important contributions, approaches, and tools for the implantation of balanced automation systems, there are a number of areas that require further research: .

The book is of interest to researchers in decision making, artificial intelligence, applied mathematics, mathematical social sciences, etc.
Book Synopsis The Colours of Infinity by : Nigel Lesmoir-Gordon
Download or read book The Colours of Infinity written by Nigel Lesmoir-Gordon and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-10-20 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A geometry able to include mountains and clouds now exists. I put it together in 1975, but of course it incorporates numerous pieces that have been around for a very long time. Like everything in science, this new geometry has very, very deep and long roots. Benoît B. Mandelbrot Introduction This enhanced and expanded edition of THE COLOURS OF INFINITY features an additional chapter on the money markets by the fractal master himself, Professor Benoît Mandelbrot. The DVD of the film associated with this book has been re-mastered especially for this edition with exquisite new fractal animations, which will take your breath away! Driven by the curious enthusiasm that engulfs many fractalistas, in 1994, Nigel Lesmoir-Gordon overcame enormous obstacles to raise the finance for, then shoot and edit the groundbreaking TV documentary from which this book takes its name. The film has been transmitted on TV channels in over fifty countries around the world. This book is not just a celebration of the discovery of the Mandelbrot set, it also brings fractal geometry up to date with a gathering of the thoughts and enthusiasms of the foremost writers and researchers in the field. As Ian Stewart makes clear in the opening chapter, there were antecedents for fractal geometry before 1975 when Mandelbrot gave the subject its name and began to develop the underlying theory.
