Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The historical scope of Sion's Army is quite extraordinary. It starts with the early history of Judaism and ends with the defeat of Napoleon. This book tracks the exploits of the followers of the shadowy Priory of Sion as they scheme to spin a web of intrigue in their pursuit of world domination. In the late sixteenth century, they invent their own form of Freemasonry to be used as their private army. As this book attests, in the eighteenth century the rapidly expanding Freemasonry movement played crucial roles in the conflagrations known as the American and French revolutions. If you really want to discover the mysteries of Freemasonry, you should read this book!

Book excerpt: For over a year, anthropologist Anna Simons was given unprecedented access to a Special Forces unit. Having first met these unconventional soldiers under difficult circumstances in Somalia, she also followed them through the rigors of basic training in the U.S., and discovered that even routine training can be dangerous and debilitating. From field exercises to the inner worlds of team rooms and base camps, and finally into the private spheres of soldiers' marriages and family lives, Simons came closer than any outsider to discovering what these unique soldiers are - and are not. Her experiences shape this first post-Vietnam, in-depth portrait of the legendary armed force. Teamwork and unremitting training are at the heart of the Special Forces, and are the vital ingredients to its success. The Company They Keep explores the crucial characteristic of a Special Forces soldier: how each member must be able to think and function independently, while simultaneously being a member of an intensely small and close-knit team. In today's military, however, Simons finds that this distinct combination of individuality and esprit de corps is under assault. Bolstered by John Kennedy and reinvigorated by Ronald Reagan to function as a unique adjunct to the mainstream army, today's Special Forces are under increasing pressure to bend to the conformism of military bureaucracy, which - more than any foe - could destroy this highly successful fighting force.

Marshall, that "American military officers, of whatever service, should share common ground ethically and morally." In this new edition, the authors methodically explore that common ground, reflecting on the basics of the Profession of Arms, and the officer's special place and distinctive obligations within that profession and especially to the Constitution.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. Army has seen its missions grow in number and intensity in recent years with the global war on terrorism and the invasion and occupation of Iraq. The resulting levels of stress that have been placed on the Army's active and reserve components have generated public debate about whether the Army's present organization is adequate for the roles that the service is playing now and will play in the foreseeable future. At the same time, the Army has begun an extensive restructuring effort, called modularity, that is designed to significantly alter how the service is organized and how it operates in the field. This Congressional Budget Office (CBO) study - prepared at the request of the House Committee on Armed Services - examines the Army's capability to fight wars, sustain long deployments, and deploy rapidly to overseas operations, as well as its dependence on personnel and units in the reserve component. This study also analyzes eight options for restructuring the Army, each of which would either increase the Army's ability to perform some types of missions or decrease its reliance on the reserve component. The options offer a broad overview of the general types of policy choices and trade-offs that decisionmakers will face when considering the size, structure, and capability of any plan for reorganizing the Army. In keeping with CBO's mandate to provide impartial analysis, this study makes no recommendations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper focuses on the formulation of doctrine since World War II. In no comparable period in history have the dimensions of the battlefield been so altered by rapid technological changes. The need for the tactical doctrines of the Army to remain correspondingly abreast of these changes is thus more pressing than ever before. Future conflicts are not likely to develop in the leisurely fashions of the past where tactical doctrines could be refined on the battlefield itself. It is, therefore, imperative that we apprehend future problems with as much accuracy as possible. One means of doing so is to pay particular attention to the business of how the Army's doctrine has developed historically, with a view to improving methods of future development.
