Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is concerned with circuit simulation using National Instruments Multisim. It focuses on the use and comprehension of the working techniques for electrical and electronic circuit simulation. The first chapters are devoted to basic circuit analysis. It starts by describing in detail how to perform a DC analysis using only resistors and independent and controlled sources. Then, it introduces capacitors and inductors to make a transient analysis. In the case of transient analysis, it is possible to have an initial condition either in the capacitor voltage or in the inductor current, or both. Fourier analysis is discussed in the context of transient analysis. Next, we make a treatment of AC analysis to simulate the frequency response of a circuit. Then, we introduce diodes, transistors, and circuits composed by them and perform DC, transient, and AC analyses. The book ends with simulation of digital circuits. A practical approach is followed through the chapters, using step-by-step examples to introduce new Multisim circuit elements, tools, analyses, and virtual instruments for measurement. The examples are clearly commented and illustrated. The different tools available on Multisim are used when appropriate so readers learn which analyses are available to them. This is part of the learning outcomes that should result after each set of end-of-chapter exercises is worked out. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In electronic circuit and system design, the word noise is used to refer to any undesired excitation on the system. In other contexts, noise is also used to refer to signals or excitations which exhibit chaotic or random behavior. The source of noise can be either internal or external to the system. For instance, the thermal and shot noise generated within integrated circuit devices are in ternal noise sources, and the noise picked up from the environment through electromagnetic interference is an external one. Electromagnetic interference can also occur between different components of the same system. In integrated circuits (Ies), signals in one part of the system can propagate to the other parts of the same system through electromagnetic coupling, power supply lines and the Ie substrate. For instance, in a mixed-signal Ie, the switching activity in the digital parts of the circuit can adversely affect the performance of the analog section of the circuit by traveling through the power supply lines and the substrate. Prediction of the effect of these noise sources on the performance of an electronic system is called noise analysis or noise simulation. A methodology for the noise analysis or simulation of an electronic system usually has the following four components: 2 NOISE IN NONLINEAR ELECTRONIC CIRCUITS • Mathematical representations or models for the noise sources. • Mathematical model or representation for the system that is under the in fluence of the noise sources.

Book excerpt: Circuit simulation has become an essential tool in circuit design and without it's aid, analogue and mixed-signal IC design would be impossible. However the applicability and limitations of circuit simulators have not been generally well understood and this book now provides a clear and easy to follow explanation of their function. The material covered includes the algorithms used in circuit simulation and the numerical techniques needed for linear and non-linear DC analysis, transient analysis and AC analysis. The book goes on to explain the numeric methods to include sensitivity and tolerance analysis and optimisation of component values for circuit design. The final part deals with logic simulation and mixed-signal simulation algorithms. There are comprehensive and detailed descriptions of the numerical methods and the material is presented in a way that provides for the needs of both experienced engineers who wish to extend their knowledge of current tools and techniques, and of advanced students and researchers who wish to develop new simulators.

Book excerpt: Simulation is a problem solving procedure for defining and analyzing a model of a system. Computer-aided design of digital logic has provided the design engineer with an aid to reduce the tedious and time consuming task of design verification. This paper describes a simulation technique for the simulation of digital logic circuits. This paper presents a level mode logic simulator that has improved economy in execution time and ease of model generation. The passage of time is simulated in a precise fashion and element models are executed only when activity occurs in the circuit. A behavior model description is accomplished on an element level rather than a gate level. The use of three-valued logic and the use of precise timing delays for both rising and falling signal levels present a very accurate and informative circuit output timing diagram. This is demonstrated by simulation of an even-odd detection circuit and an up-down gray code counter. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A completely updated and expanded comprehensive treatment of VHDL and its applications to the design and simulation of real, industry-standard circuits. This comprehensive treatment of VHDL and its applications to the design and simulation of real, industry-standard circuits has been completely updated and expanded for the third edition. New features include all VHDL-2008 constructs, an extensive review of digital circuits, RTL analysis, and an unequaled collection of VHDL examples and exercises. The book focuses on the use of VHDL rather than solely on the language, with an emphasis on design examples and laboratory exercises. The third edition begins with a detailed review of digital circuits (combinatorial, sequential, state machines, and FPGAs), thus providing a self-contained single reference for the teaching of digital circuit design with VHDL. In its coverage of VHDL-2008, it makes a clear distinction between VHDL for synthesis and VHDL for simulation. The text offers complete VHDL codes in examples as well as simulation results and comments. The significantly expanded examples and exercises include many not previously published, with multiple physical demonstrations meant to inspire and motivate students. The book is suitable for undergraduate and graduate students in VHDL and digital circuit design, and can be used as a professional reference for VHDL practitioners. It can also serve as a text for digital VLSI in-house or academic courses.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book develops techniques for simulating digital logic circuits in Microsoft’s Excel that provide a useful tool to both the student and the practicing engineer. It introduces the subject by showing how logic devices, taken from the standard 7400 family, can be modeled and stored in a library. These functions can then be combined by the user as building blocks to design more complex circuits, both combinatorial and sequential. The simulations not only allow the designs to be verified to ensure they provide expected outputs and states, but can also perform detailed timing analysis. Worst case timing conditions can be imposed to stress the circuits so that the resultant behavior can be observed. Methods showing how the user can add additional devices to the simulation library are also covered.
