Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Second Edition of the Practical Hydraulics Handbook is a must for all those who work with water utility systems. Presented in workbook format and emphasizing practical applications, this Handbook is perfect for hydraulic engineers, technicians, operating personnel, supervisors, managers, consultants, and students. The exceptionally well-organized chapters include information on pressurized systems and open channel flow, principles of energy and force, flow calculations and measurement, pumps, and pumping applications. This latest edition of the Practical Hydraulics Handbook includes new exercises at the end of each chapter and detailed solutions to selected exercises. The well-chosen exercises allow readers to practice applications of the theory and to test their knowledge of the material. The solutions provide guidance and problem-solving techniques that can be used both in the field and in the lab. Reference tables are also provided for calculations of friction loss, velocity, pipe fullness, well drawdown, English/metric conversions, power, and metered flow. These tables make calculations easier and minimize the chance for error. In this new edition of Practical Hydraulics Handbook, all of the major principles and calculations dealing with the hydraulics of water systems are covered, and new and expanded material has been added.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the mid-20th Century, automatic transmissions have benefited drivers by automatically changing gear ratios, freeing the driver from having to shift gears manually. The automatic transmission's primary job is to allow the engine to operate in its speed range while providing a wide range of output (vehicle) speeds automatically. The transmission uses gears to make more effective use of the engine's torque and to keep the engine operating at an appropriate speed. For nearly half a century, Design Practices: Passenger Car Automatic Transmissions has been the “go-to” handbook of design considerations for automatic transmission industry engineers of all levels of experience. This latest 4th edition represents a major overhaul from the prior edition and is arguably the most significant update in its long history. In summary, the authors have put together the most definitive handbook for automatic transmission design practices available today. Virtually all existing chapters have been updated and improved with the latest state-of-the-art information and many have been significantly expanded with more detail and design consideration updates; most notably for torque converters and start devices, gears/splines/chains, bearings, wet friction, one-way clutch, pumps, seals and gaskets, and controls. All new chapters have also been added, including state-of-the-art information on: • Lubrication • Transmission fluids • Filtration • Contamination control Finally, details about the latest transmission technologies—including dual clutch and continuously variable transmissions—have been added.

Book Synopsis Submarine Hydraulic Systems by : United States Navy
Download or read book Submarine Hydraulic Systems written by United States Navy and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2008-09-01 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally printed in 1946, The Fleet Type Submarine series of technical manuals remains unparalleled. Contained in its pages and those of the companion texts are descriptions of every operating component aboard a fleet boat. Hydraulic Systems, Navpers 16169, describes the system that powers the submarine¿s steering mechanism and diving planes. It is also a richly- illustrated textbook that discusses hydraulic forces and their methods of employment. It includes a detailed description of the operation, installation, and repair of various parts, and outlines common problems and remedies. Originally classified ¿Restricted¿, this book was recently declassified and is here reprinted in book form. Some illustrations have been slightly reformatted, and color plates are reproduced in black and white. Care has been taken to preserve the integrity of the text.

Book Synopsis Numerical Modeling in Open Channel Hydraulics by : Romuald Szymkiewicz
Download or read book Numerical Modeling in Open Channel Hydraulics written by Romuald Szymkiewicz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-03-10 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Open channel hydraulics has always been a very interesting domain of scienti c and engineering activity because of the great importance of water for human l- ing. The free surface ow, which takes place in the oceans, seas and rivers, can be still regarded as one of the most complex physical processes in the environment. The rst source of dif culties is the proper recognition of physical ow processes and their mathematical description. The second one is related to the solution of the derived equations. The equations arising in hydrodynamics are rather comp- cated and, except some much idealized cases, their solution requires application of the numerical methods. For this reason the great progress in open channel ow modeling that took place during last 40 years paralleled the progress in computer technique, informatics and numerical methods. It is well known that even ty- cal hydraulic engineering problems need applications of computer codes. Thus, we witness a rapid development of ready-made packages, which are widely d- seminated and offered for engineers. However, it seems necessary for their users to be familiar with some fundamentals of numerical methods and computational techniques applied for solving the problems of interest. This is helpful for many r- sons. The ready-made packages can be effectively and safely applied on condition that the users know their possibilities and limitations. For instance, such knowledge is indispensable to distinguish in the obtained solutions the effects coming from the considered physical processes and those caused by numerical artifacts.
