Book Synopsis Simplicial Methods and the Interpretation of `Triple' Cohomology by : John Williford Duskin
Download or read book Simplicial Methods and the Interpretation of `Triple' Cohomology written by John Williford Duskin and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1975 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author gives a Yoneda-type interpretation of triple cohomology in a nonabelian setting. The impetus for this work comes from several sources, Eilenberg-MacLane cohomology of groups and its interpretations, the cohomology theory [bold]Ext[superscript italic]n for modules, and obstruction theory in topology. As the author states, the use of triples has yielded a tremendous unification of a variety of cohomology theories. In addition to the algebraic theories above there are Hochschild and Shukla's cohomology of associative algebras, Harrison's and the Andre-Quillen cohomology of commutative rings, and classical Čech cohomology for a general discussion.

Book Synopsis The Cohomology of Monoids by : Antonio M. Cegarra
Download or read book The Cohomology of Monoids written by Antonio M. Cegarra and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2024 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Zusammenfassung: This monograph covers topics in the cohomology of monoids up through recent developments. Jonathan Leech's original monograph in the Memoirs of the American Mathematical Society dates back to 1975. This book is an organized, accessible, and self-contained account of this cohomology that includes more recent significant developments that were previously scattered among various publications, along with completely new material. It summarizes the original Leech theory and provides a modern and thorough treatment of the cohomological classification of coextensions of both monoids and monoidal groupoids, including the case of monoids with operators. This cohomology is also compared to the classical Eilenberg-Mac Lane and Hochschild-Mitchell cohomologies. Connections are also established with the Lausch-Loganathan cohomology theory for inverse semigroups, the Gabriel-Zisman cohomology of simplicial sets, the Wells cohomology of small categories (also known as Baues-Wirsching cohomology), Grothendieck sheaf cohomology, and finally Beck's triple cohomology. It also establishes connections with Grillet's cohomology theory for commutative semigroups. The monograph is aimed at researchers in the theory of monoids, or even semigroups, and its interface with category theory, homological algebra, and related fields. However, it is also written to be accessible to graduate students in mathematics and mathematicians in general

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Categorical algebra and its applications contain several fundamental papers on general category theory, by the top specialists in the field, and many interesting papers on the applications of category theory in functional analysis, algebraic topology, algebraic geometry, general topology, ring theory, cohomology, differential geometry, group theory, mathematical logic and computer sciences. The volume contains 28 carefully selected and refereed papers, out of 96 talks delivered, and illustrates the usefulness of category theory today as a powerful tool of investigation in many other areas.
Book Synopsis Lower Central and Dimension Series of Groups by : Roman Mikhailov
Download or read book Lower Central and Dimension Series of Groups written by Roman Mikhailov and published by Springer. This book was released on 2008-10-20 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fundamental object of study in group theory is the lower central series of groups. Understanding its relationship with the dimension series, which consists of the subgroups determined by the augmentation powers, is a challenging task. This monograph presents an exposition of different methods for investigating this relationship. In addition to group theorists, the results are also of interest to topologists and number theorists. The approach is mainly combinatorial and homological. A novel feature is an exposition of simplicial methods for the study of problems in group theory.

The subjects covered here range from topology and geometry to logic and theoretical computer science, from homotopy to braids and conformal field theory. Although generally aimed at experts in the various fields represented, the book will also provide an excellent opportunity for nonexperts to get a feel for the diversity of current applications of category theory.

Book Synopsis Sketches of an Elephant: A Topos Theory Compendium by : P. T. Johnstone

This book was released on 2002-09-12 with total page 836 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Topos Theory is a subject that stands at the junction of geometry, mathematical logic and theoretical computer science, and it derives much of its power from the interplay of ideas drawn from these different areas. Because of this, an account of topos theory which approaches the subject from one particular direction can only hope to give a partial picture; the aim of this compendium is to present as comprehensive an account as possible of all the main approaches and to thereby demonstrate the overall unity of the subject. The material is organized in such a way that readers interested in following a particular line of approach may do so by starting at an appropriate point in the text.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We give a general method of forcing over categories as a category-theoretic universal construction which subsumes, on one hand, all known instances of forcing in set theory, Boolean and Heyting valued models and sheaf interpretations for both classical and intuitionistic formal systems; and, on the other hand, constructions of classifying topoi in topos theory.
Book Synopsis Category Theory by : Aurelio Carboni
Download or read book Category Theory written by Aurelio Carboni and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-14 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With one exception, these papers are original and fully refereed research articles on various applications of Category Theory to Algebraic Topology, Logic and Computer Science. The exception is an outstanding and lengthy survey paper by Joyal/Street (80 pp) on a growing subject: it gives an account of classical Tannaka duality in such a way as to be accessible to the general mathematical reader, and to provide a key for entry to more recent developments and quantum groups. No expertise in either representation theory or category theory is assumed. Topics such as the Fourier cotransform, Tannaka duality for homogeneous spaces, braided tensor categories, Yang-Baxter operators, Knot invariants and quantum groups are introduced and studies.
