Book Synopsis The Ecology and Management of Wetlands by : Donal D. Hook

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 602 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the proceedings of a symposium held at the College of Charleston, Charleston, South Carolina, USA, 16-20 June 1986. The seed for this symposium arose from a group of physiologists , soU scientists and biochemists that met in Leningrad, USSR in July 1975 at the 12th Botanical Conference in a Session organized by Professor B.B. Vartepetian. This group and others later conspired to contribute to a book entitled Plant Life in Anaerobic Environments (eds. D. D. Hook and R. M. M. Crawford, Ann Arbor Science, 1978). Several contributors to the book suggested in 1983 that a broad-scoped symposium on wetlands would be useful (a) in facilitating communication among the diverse research groups involved in wetlands research (b) in bringing researchers and managers together and (c) in presenting a com prehensive and balanced coverage on the status of ecology ami management of wetlands from a global perspective. With this encouragement, the senior editor organized a Plan ning Committee that encompassed expertise from many disciplines of wetland scientists and managers. This Committee, with input from their colleagues around the world, organized a symposium that addressed almost every aspect of wetland ecology and management.
Book Synopsis A Silvicultural Guide for the White Pine and Red Pine Working Groups in Ontario by : David John Chapeskie
Download or read book A Silvicultural Guide for the White Pine and Red Pine Working Groups in Ontario written by David John Chapeskie and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This silvicultural guide is one of several, each of which provides a description of the silvicultural characteristics of the working group species and describes silvicultural practices for the working group. The guide reflects relevant literature and research, and the knowledge and experience of forestry staff in the management of the working group in Ontario and elsewhere. The guide covers the range and commercial importance of white pine and red spruce, siting, and wildlife and environmental considerations. Management prescriptions include such silvicultural systems as shelterwood and clear cut systems, harvesting considerations, forest renewal, stand maintenance, conversion and management intensity. Data is also given on the age-class distribution, historical harvest, average roundwood receipts, and biological rotation ages.
Download or read book Plant Microtubules written by Peter Nick and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Manipulation of plant architecture is regarded as a new and promising issue in plant biotechnology. Given the important role of the cytoskeleton during plant growth and development, microtubules provide an important target for biotechnological applications aiming to change plant architecture. This book introduces some microtubule-mediated key processes that are important for plant life and amenable to manipulation by either genetic, pharmacological or morphological rationales. In the first part, the role of microtubules in plant morphogenesis is reviewed. The second part covers their role in response to environmental factors. The third part deals with the tools that can be used for biotechnological manipulation.
