Book excerpt: When Joseph Collier left Scotland bound for Central City, Colorado in 1871, it was unclear whether the young immigrant would make much of a name for himself. However, through hard work and perseverance, Collier developed a reputation as one of the state's preeminent pioneer photographers. Now, over a century later, Grant Collier has literally followed in the footsteps of his great-great-grandfather. Grant has traveled across Colorado taking photographs from precisely the same spots where Joseph Collier captured his images. These photographs are presented in the often imitated but never duplicated "Colorado: Yesterday & Today."

Book excerpt: "It was only after the consideration of many months and after much self-examination as to my motives, and after much earnest prayer, that I came to the conclusion to write this work. I have not taken one single step in the Lord's service, concerning which I have prayed so much. My great dislike to increasing the number of religious books would, in itself, have been sufficient to have kept me forever from it, had I not cherished the hope of being instrumental in this way to lead some of my brethren to value the Holy Scriptures more, and to judge by the standard of the word of God the principles on which they act."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Musaicum Books presents to you this meticulously edited George Müller collection. "The word of God alone is our standard of judgment in spiritual things... the Holy Spirit alone can teach us about our state by nature, show us the need of a Saviour, enable us to believe in Christ, explain to us the Scriptures, help us in preaching, etc. The first evening that I shut myself into my room, to give myself to prayer and meditation over the Scriptures, I learned more in a few hours than I had done during a period of several months previously. But the particular difference was, that I received real strength for my soul in doing so." George Müller (1805-1898) was a Christian evangelist and the director of the Ashley Down orphanage in Bristol, England. He cared for 10,024 orphans during his lifetime, and provided educational opportunities for the orphans to the point that he was even accused by some of raising the poor above their natural station in British life. He established 117 schools which offered Christian education to more than 120,000. The theology that guided George Müller's work was shaped by an experience in his middle twenties when he "came to prize the Bible alone as his standard of judgement". Müller wrote frequently about the stewardship of money and the non-reliance on earthly riches, and how God would bless the man who kept to these principles, and felt that laying his own experiences bare would prove the truth of his claims. His personal income, from unsolicited gifts (he refused any kind of salary) rose from £151 in 1831 to more than £2,000 in 1870. However, he retained only around £300 a year for himself and his family, the rest he gave away. Müller's faith in God strengthened day by day and he spent hours in daily prayer and Bible reading. There is much to fascinate a parent and particularly those with medical connections and interests. Dr. Theodore Drake (1891-1959), co-inventor of Pablum, collected feeding vessels, rattles and teethers, amulets, furniture, books, stamps, and coins during a lifetime of medical studies and practice in Canada and abroad. His collection encompasses some 3,000 artifacts, 1,500 rare books, 1,000 prints, 1,000 coins and medals, and all child welfare stamps up to the 1950s. Nurturing Yesterday’s Child is a remarkable tribute to a remarkable man who showed the same amount of care and thoughtfulness when amassing this vast collection as he showed for the health of children throughout a long and distinguished medical career.

She lives alone, all but abandoned by her family, for reasons both deserved and unjust. When she has a stroke, her ability to communicate is all but obliterated, and she finds herself in a terrifying struggle to deal with the demons of the past while figuring out how to navigate her way through a world she can no longer talk to. Remlee Shaw Shephard is Betty Sue’s estranged daughter. After running away from her less-than-idyllic childhood, she has managed to create a life for herself. She’s a successful restaurant owner and devoted wife who has her life all figured out. Her serenity is shattered when she gets the call informing her of her mother’s fate, and she finds herself set on a course of reconciliation with her past. With her dutiful husband in tow, Remlee embarks on a journey back to her hometown to deal with the fallout of her mother’s medical misfortune. Along the way, she reconnects with the family she tried so hard to escape from, and uncomfortable truths boil to the surface, forcing her to reexamine her feelings toward the people who share her blood. Betty Sue’s journey back to communion with the world is full of struggle and strife. Old ghosts dog her every thought, and the past isn’t gone, not in the damaged corridors of her mind. She lives her trauma over and over as she struggles to free herself from this blood-clot-induced limbo. It is only when she begins to let go of the past that she is able to escape it and move on into a brighter future with what family she has left.
