Book excerpt: El presente estudio describe el significado de la experiencia del dolor crónico en la calidad de vida y afrontamiento de éste en las personas en la etapa de desarrollo de adultez temprana. Se utilizó un diseño cualitativo fenomenológico con estrategias de recogida de datos por entrevista a profundidad. La muestra estuvo constituida por cinco (N=5) participantes de ambos géneros. Se utilizó un muestreo no probabilístico por bola de nieve. El protocolo de entrevista estuvo compuesto de once (11) preguntas, las cuales se llevaron a cabo de manera remota, luego fueron grabadas en audio y transcritas ad verbatim. Para el análisis de los datos, se utilizó el modelo de Clark Moustakas (1994). De este se derivaron seis categorías principales. Del análisis se desprende que padecer de una condición de dolor crónico a temprana edad puede tener un impacto significativo en la calidad de vida de la persona que lo padece. A su vez, los resultados exponen que el dolor crónico puede generar una experiencia desagradable, y, por consiguiente, una calidad de vida deteriorada a nivel físico, emocional y social. De las experiencias de los/as participantes aluden la importancia del tratamiento psicológico en el manejo del dolor crónico. Así también resaltaron la implementación de intervenciones enfocadas en factores protectores, manejo de emociones, fortalezas y capacidad de resiliencia como estrategias de afrontamiento a pacientes con dolor crónico.
