Book Synopsis Handbook of Work Disability by : Patrick Loisel
Download or read book Handbook of Work Disability written by Patrick Loisel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-22 with total page 519 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the developing field of Work Disability Prevention. Work disability does not only involve occupational disorders originating from the work or at the workplace, but addresses work absenteeism originating from any disorder or accident. This topic has become of primary importance due to the huge compensation costs and health issues involved. For employers it is a unique burden and in many countries compensation is not even linked to the cause of the disorder. In the past twenty years, studies have accumulated which emphasize the social causes of work disability. Governments and NGOs such as the World Bank, the International Labor Organization, and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development have produced alarming reports on the extent of this problem for developed and developing countries. However, no comprehensive book is presently available to help them address this emerging field where new knowledge should induce new ways of management.
Book Synopsis Privatizing Sick Pay by : Pierre Koning
Download or read book Privatizing Sick Pay written by Pierre Koning and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Public schemes for sickness benefits and disability insurance are often criticized for the lack of incentive they provide for preventive and reintegration activities by employers. To stimulate the interest of employers in engaging with these schemes, several modes of privatization could be considered, including the provision of sickness benefits by employers, "experience rating" of disability insurance costs, employer self-insurance, or insurance by private insurance providers. These types of employer incentives seem to lower sickness rates, but they also come at the risk of increased under-reporting and less employment opportunities for workers with disabilities or bad health conditions. Policymakers should be aware of this trade-off.

Download or read book Disabled People, Work and Welfare written by Grover, Chris and published by Policy Press. This book was released on 2015-07 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book to challenge the idea that paid work should be seen as an essential means to independence and self-determination for the disabled. Writing in the wake of attempts in many countries to increase the employment rates of disabled people, the contributors show how such efforts have led to an overall erosion of financial support for the disabled and increasing stigmatization of those who are not able to work. Drawing on sociology and philosophy, and mounting a powerful case for the rights of the disabled, the book will be essential for activists, scholars, and policy makers.
