Book Synopsis The Cultural Gutter by : Carol Borden
Download or read book The Cultural Gutter written by Carol Borden and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2011 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Science fiction, fantasy, comics, romance, genre movies, games all drain into the Cultural Gutter, a website dedicated to thoughtful articles about disreputable art-media and genres that are a little embarrassing. Irredeemable. Worthy of Note, but rolling like errant pennies back into the gutter. The Cultural Gutter is dangerous because we have a philosophy. We try to balance enthusiasm with clear-eyed, honest engagement with the material and with our readers. This book expands on our mission with 10 articles each from science fiction/fantasy editor James Schellenberg, comics editor and publisher Carol Borden, romance editor Chris Szego, screen editor Ian Driscoll and founding editor and former games editor Jim Munroe.

Book Synopsis Short Circuiting Policy by : Leah Cardamore Stokes
Download or read book Short Circuiting Policy written by Leah Cardamore Stokes and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2020-03-18 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1999, Texas passed a landmark clean energy law, beginning a groundswell of new policies that promised to make the US a world leader in renewable energy. As Leah Stokes shows in Short Circuiting Policy, however, that policy did not lead to momentum in Texas, which failed to implement its solar laws or clean up its electricity system. Examining clean energy laws in Texas, Kansas, Arizona, and Ohio over a thirty-year time frame, Stokes argues that organized combat between advocate and opponent interest groups is central to explaining why states are not on track to address the climate crisis. She tells the political history of our energy institutions, explaining how fossil fuel companies and electric utilities have promoted climate denial and delay. Stokes further explains the limits of policy feedback theory, showing the ways that interest groups drive retrenchment through lobbying, public opinion, political parties and the courts. More than a history of renewable energy policy in modern America, Short Circuiting Policy offers a bold new argument about how the policy process works, and why seeming victories can turn into losses when the opposition has enough resources to roll back laws.

Book Synopsis Short Circuits in Power Systems by : Ismail Kasikci
Download or read book Short Circuits in Power Systems written by Ismail Kasikci and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-02-27 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reflecting the changes to the all-important short circuit calculations in three-phase power systems according to IEC 60909-0 standard, this new edition of the practical guide retains its proven and unique concept of explanations, calculations and real-life examples of short circuits in electrical networks. It has also been completely revised and expanded by 20% to include the standard-compliant prevention of short circuits in electrical networks for photovoltaics and wind energy. By understanding the theory any software allows users to perform all the necessary calculations with ease so they can work on the design and application of low- and high-voltage power systems. This book is a practitioner's guide intended for students, electrical engineers, engineers in power technology, the electrotechnical industry, engineering consultants, energy suppliers, chemical engineers and physicists in industry.

Book Synopsis Short-Circuit Withstand Capability of Power Transformers by : Daniel Hermann Geißler
Download or read book Short-Circuit Withstand Capability of Power Transformers written by Daniel Hermann Geißler and published by Cuvillier Verlag. This book was released on 2016-08-15 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The work presented in this PhD-thesis concentrates on radial buckling phenomena of power transformer windings made from Continuously Transposed Conductors (CTC). Analytical and simulation-based approaches describe the critical buckling load involving elastoplastic material behavior. A test stand allows verifying the theoretical results based on dynamic short-circuit tests with realistic winding arrangements in air. Acceleration sensors and a high-speed camera are used to measure the winding vibration and deformation. Furthermore, bonded CTCs are characterized by bending tests and a simulation model including the shear strength of the bonding is developed. Another focus is on the impact of the paper insulation wrapped around CTCs and its contribution to the overall mechanical stiffness. On this subject a considerable impact has been discovered. Accelerated aging tests address the mechanical effect of paper aging based on bending tests as well as zero- and wide-span tensile tests and the degree of polymerization (DP).
Book Synopsis The Body in Crisis by : Christine Greiner
Download or read book The Body in Crisis written by Christine Greiner and published by University of Michigan Press. This book was released on 2021-09-20 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Body in Crisis introduces the English-speaking world to the work of leading Latin American dance scholar and philosopher of the body, Christine Greiner. The book offers an innovative set of tools with which to examine the role of moving bodies and bodily actions in relation to worldwide concerns, including identity politics, alterity, migration, and belonging. The book places the concept of bodymedium in dialogue with the work of Giorgio Agamben to investigate notions of alterity, and shows how an understanding of the body-environment continuum can shed light on things left unnamed and at the margins. Greiner’s analyses draw from a broad range of theory concerned with the epistemology of the body, including cognitive science, political philosophy, evolutionary biology, and performance studies to illuminate radical experiences that question the limits of the body. Her analysis of the role that bodies play in negotiations of power relations offers an original and unprecedented contribution to the field of dance studies and expands its scope to recognize theoretical models of inquiry developed in the Global South.

Download or read book Here's Johnny! written by Ed McMahon and published by HarperChristian + ORM. This book was released on 2005-10-16 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here's Johnny is like sitting with Ed and Johnny over lunch: The last time I saw Johnny, about a year before he died, we had chicken, a couple of glasses of red wine, and then we just sat there and reminisced, going back and forth the way we did on the show. We talked about our kids, and our careers and the state of America, just two lucky guys who loved each other and the good luck of our careers. Ed McMahon is the only person who was with Johnny Carson, even before The Tonight Show, when they both first appeared on Who Do You Trust. Now, with Johnny's blessing before he died, McMahon can finally share all the stories that only he knows. From the sofa at Johnny's right, to backstage, to their personal relationship - McMahon will provide a real view of the man who was so careful to only show one side of himself to the public. Brilliant in front of the camera, but shy in person, Carson seldom gave interviews. Only McMahon can tell the stories and provide the insights into the personality that made Johnny Carson more of a friend we invited into our home than a television star. This entertaining tribute will feature over 200 pictures, many never before published, from both McMahon's and Carson's private archives.
