This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Background: Light cured composite resin can be time consuming for bonding orthodontic brackets. A new Blue light diode laser may reduce curing times for composite resins. Hypothesis: The laser will achieve similar bond strengths in half the time and at greater distances as the LED. Methods: 90 extracted premolars will be bonded and cured using Laser and LED curing units at varying times, another 120 extracted premolars will be bonded and cured at varying distances. An Instron machine will be used to test shear bond strength. Results: The laser was not able to achieve similar bond strengths as the LED curing light in half of the curing time. At 5 seconds, the laser had 35% lower bond strengths but was still in the clinically acceptable range. The laser achieved similar bond strengths when the curing tip was at greater distances as when it was close to the bracket-adhesive-tooth interface.

Download or read book Evaluation of Shear/peel Bond Strengths of Orthodontic Attachments to Moist and Dry Enamel written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the shear-peel bond strengths of orthodontic attachments bonded to enamel surfaces under varying conditions. A light-cured composite adhesive was compared to a cyanoacrylate adhesive and a composite hybrid adhesive. The shear-peel bond strengths in this study are stated as 24 hours vs. 6 months and were as follows: Transbond(tm) XT/dry (10.57 +- 2.83 MPa vs 12.23 +- 3.14 MPa), Assure(tm)/dry (6.93 +- 2.2 MPa vs 8.18 +- 1.39 MPa), Smartbond(R)/dry (3.91 +- 1.17 MPa vs 4.11 +- 1.96 MPa), Transbond(tm) XT/moist (0.14 +- 0.31 MPa vs 0 +- 0 MPa), Assure(tm)/moist (6.03 +- 1.77 MPa vs 6.86 +- 2.81 MPa), and Smartbond(R)/moist (3.22 +- 0.52 MPa vs 2.4 +- 0.96 MPa). There was a statistically significant difference (p 0.05) between (1) the different adhesives (2) the dry and moist conditions of Transbond(tm) XT. There was no statistically significant difference (p 0.05) between (1) the dry and moist conditions of Assure(tm) and Smartbond(R) (2) the 24 hour and 6 month time frame for all adhesives. This book was released on 2013 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Objective: To compare the mean bond strengths and mode of bond failure, in vitro, of five bonding systems (MIP 1, Plastic Conditioner 2, Assure 2, Scotchbond 3, and Transbond XT 1), when bonding an orthodontic bracket to an artificially-aged composite resin restoration, with and without mechanical surface preparation with a diamond bur. Methods: Class V buccal composite resin restorations were prepared in 240 upper right central incisor dentoform teeth. The restorations were artificially age d for 35 days, bonded with metal brackets, stored in distilled water at 37°C for 30 days, thermocycled for 500 cycles, and subsequently debonded with an Instron universal testing machine. Results: The mean bond strengths for Transbond, MIP, Plastic Conditioner, Assure, and Scotchbond groups were 12.1, 12.3, 13.3, 17.2, and 17.7 MPa respectively. The mean bond strengths for Transbond+Diamond, MIP+Diamond, Plastic Conditioner+Diamond, Assure+Diamond, and Scotchbond+Diamond groups were 18.5, 16.4, 19.1, 19.5, and 20.7 MPa respectively. ANOVA revealed a statistically significant diffe rence (P d"0.05) among the groups. Conclusions: Mechanically roughening the surface of a composite resin restoration with a diamond bur, provided significantly greater bond strengths, regardless of the bonding resin used. However, Assure and Scotchbond, without diamond bur preparation, provided similar bond strengths to Transbond, MIP and Plastic Conditioner, with diamond bur preparation. 1. 3M Unitek, Monrovia CA 2. Download or read book Bond Strength In Orthodontics written by Rahamath Ulla Khan and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2014-03-06 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Demineralization of enamel has been one of the iatrogenic effects of fixed orthodontic therapy, for which various authors have suggested the use of fluoride to reduce the decalcification and development of white spot lesion. In the present study, the shear bond strength of light-cure composite adhesive, self-cure composite adhesive, light-cure glass ionomer cement and acidic primer were tested at the end of 24 hours after bonding. The results proved that the acidic primer system had highest shear bond strength while Light-cure glass ionomer system had the least shear bond strength. But the mean values met the minimal shear bond strength required for orthodontic bonding. After bond failure, least amount of glass ionomer cement was present on the enamel surface, followed by acidic primer system, light-cure composite and self-cure composite system. So, it is advantageous to use light-cure glass ionomer cement for bonding in terms of less amount of time spent and no enamel damage during cleaning procedure after debonding.

This book was released on 2018 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examined the effect of a highly filled light-cured sealant (HFLCS) on bracket shear bond strength and subsequent adhesive remnant index (ARI) following exposure to cariogenic challenge. Specimens were divided into two groups to receive conventional primer or HFLCS prior to orthodontic bracket bonding in a simulated oral environment. After curing bracket adhesive, specimens were separated into two storage solutions, either phosphate buffered saline or a demineralization solution (pH 4.1) for 96 hours. Brackets then underwent shear bond strength testing followed by ARI scoring. Enamel surfaces were visually examined for white spot lesion (WSL) severity using a WSL scoring index. HFLCS and exposure to demineralization conditions were not significant factors in shear bond strength or subsequent adhesive fracture pattern (ANOVA, p>.05). The majority of brackets were given an ARI score of 1, meaning that greater than 50% of the resin adhesive remained on the bracket. A significant difference (p
