Download or read book Clone Being written by Stephen E. Levick and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2004 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most people think the risks of reproductive cloning are so high as to make trying to clone a person immoral. Even if the medical risks could be reduced greatly, many believe a clone would still risk great psychological harm, and that the practice of reproductive cloning would also be detrimental to society. Others dismiss these concerns as speculative, and point to the possible good they believe it could do. But we need not wait for the first clone to be born to systematically consider the possible psychological and social ramifications of cloning. Marshalling psychological and sociological theory and research, and drawing upon extensive clinical experiences as a psychiatrist and psychotherapist, Levick explores the various dimensions of cloning. Clone Being attempts to anticipate possible consequences for a clone, his or her 'parents' and family, and society. Psychotherapy case material enlivens and illustrates the book and the reader is helped to identify 'clone-like' aspects of his or her own experience and mental life, and of contemporary life. Through this process, the book comes to important conclusions about human nature, including the crucial roles of intimacy, sex, and sexuality for society. The clinical and scientifically grounded insights of this book should help inform the reader's ethical judgments and attitudes about cloning people.

Download or read book Don't Clone a Snowflake written by Rebecca Goudreault and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2018-04-23 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One day I had a special delivery from heaven. I became the mother of a baby boy with bright blue eyes and blonde hair. Joey just happened to have Down Syndrome, a heart defect and health issues. This story is a recap of only fifteen months with my special gift. I refer to Joey, as my special snowflake throughout this book. What may have seemed to be a tragedy, turned out to be the very opposite. The challenges came with many blessings as I experienced the wraparound presence and love of my Savior Jesus Christ. This is my testimony about a little snowflake that lives in my heart forever. My experiences with my special delivery brought me into a closer walk with my heavenly Father. I would do over in a heartbeat. My prayer is that this story will give others hope, build faith, and experience the love of God for themselves. Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man of he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?" Matthew 16:26 (The Living Bible) "What profit is there, if you gain the whole world - and lose eternal life?"

They may not live to learn how wrong they are… After launching an unsuccessful invasion of Washington, D.C., the Unified Authority is on the verge of defeat. Then the clones intercept a message detailing the U.A.’s last ditch plan for survival: a super weapon, a virus designed to attack the clones’ internal architecture. Only one clone was created without the fatal flaw—Wayson Harris, an outlaw model with independent thoughts and an addiction to violence. As his empire collapses and his comrades die around him, Harris begins a one-man war against the government that created, betrayed and ultimately destroyed his brothers. Fighting the war becomes more difficult, however, as the rush from the constant combat has reached its peak—and is driving Harris slowly insane…
Download or read book The Silent Echo written by Helen Paloge and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2007 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Silent Echo examines the texts and subtexts of a number of English and American contemporary women's novels dealing with middle age. These novels of midlife chart the brief development of a female protagonist in early or late middle age as she achieves some measure of emotional and physical contentment or wisdom. Author Helen Paloge clearly shows that, in fact, these novels, which claim to confront in narrative terms the gender-bound implications of aging, generally reveal an unconscious denial of the truth of aging's significance for women, a consistent dishonesty on this score, and an ultimate refusal to confront the issues they claim to examine. The Silent Echo explores fiction by such authors as Margaret Atwood, Joan Barfoot, Fay Weldon, and Joyce Carol Oates, in search of the middle-aged woman's body and its decline unto death. If the quest for happiness or meaning in most of these novels proves successful, it is despite, rather than because of, the middle-aged body. The aging female body might present no hindrance to happiness, but it must be acknowledged and engaged.

Download or read book The Clone Betrayal written by Steven L. Kent and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2009-10-27 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Earth, 2516 A.D. The Unified Authority spread human colonies across the six arms of the Milky Way Galaxy, ruling with an iron fist and a powerful military made up almost entirely of clones. Then the alien Avatari invaded—and when the fighting was over, the U.A. retained control over only two planets: Earth and New Copenhagen. Like the thousands of clones born before him, Lt. Wayson Harris was born and bred as the ultimate soldier. But he is unique, possessing independence of thought—and an addiction to the rage of battle. So when he and other clone survivors of the New Copenhagen debacle are sent to cool their heels in an isolated "relocation camp," Harris feels on edge. And with good reason. The military brass are looking for someone to blame for the decimation of the U.A. republic. And who better to scapegoat than those who were born to be sacrificed? But Lt. Harris is about to respectfully disagree—with all the firepower he can muster.
Download or read book Clones, Fakes and Posthumans written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2015-06-24 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clones, Fakes and Posthumans: Cultures of Replication explores cloning and related phenomena that inform each other, like twins, fakes, replica, or homogeneities, through a cultural prism. What could it mean to think of a cloning mentality? Could it be that a “cloning culture” has made biotechnological cloning desirable in the first place, and vice versa that biotechnological cloning then enforces technologies of social and cultural cloning? What does it mean to say that a culture replicates? If biotechnological cloning has to do with choice and repetitive reproduction of selected characteristics, how are those kinds of desires expressed socially, politically and culturally? Lifting the issue of cloning above the biotechnological domain, we problematize the cultural context, including modernity’s readiness to imitate and manipulate nature, and the skewed privileging of desirable socialities as a basis for exclusive replication. We also explore possible relations between a cloning mentality and a consumer society that fosters a brand-name mentality. The construction and (coercive) implementation of copy-prone technological and symbolic items are at the very heart of the consumer society and its modes of mass production as they have emerged from and seek to articulate, define, and refine modernity and modernization.
