Book excerpt: Ore characterization based mainly on microscopic and microanalytical methods allow to discriminate two type of epithermal mineralization in the Colquijirca district, central Peru: disseminated high sulfidation epithermal Au-(Ag) ores and sulfide-rich zoned cordilleran polymetallic deposits. High precision 40Ar/39Ar radiometric dating reveals that high sulfidation Au-(Ag) ores, formed from 11.9±0.07 to 11.10±0.06 Ma, predated cordilleran mineralization which formed from 10.83±0.06 to 10.59±0.06 Ma. Both systems entrained commonly strongly acidic fluids recorded by episodic precipitation of alunite derived from magmatic vapor plumes. Two end-member fluids are recognized in the Colquijirca system: a cold (

Book Synopsis The Geology of Ore Deposits by : John M. Guilbert
Download or read book The Geology of Ore Deposits written by John M. Guilbert and published by Waveland Press. This book was released on 2007-02-09 with total page 1000 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern civilizations dependence upon an increasing volume and diversity of minerals makes the search for new ore deposits ever more difficult. Now available from Waveland Press, Guilbert & Parks text presents ideas, principles, and data fundamental for beginning economic geologists to understand the genesis and localization of ore deposits and of the minerals associated with them. The authors comprehensively describe the physical and chemical characteristics of ore deposits and correlate them with environments and conditions of deposition, since ore deposits are best interpreted as extensions of the environments responsible for their enclosing rocks. Examples and illustrations emphasize structural, chemical, and temporal controls and encourage the three-dimensional thinking used by productive explorationists as they face unsolved problems. This upper-level undergraduate text is fully illustrated and meticulously indexed. Its reliable, authoritative coverage assumes an upper-level command of chemistry and physics, as well as mineralogy, petrology, and structural geology. Outstanding features . . . develops and combines the abilities of the explorationist and of the researcher of ore-forming processes structures the geologic descriptions into groupings recognized by researchers and explorers alike builds confidence, revitalizes curiosity, and encourages expanded thinking emphasizes that the days of easy discovery of outcropping ores are not over includes revised, expanded, and updated descriptions of districts

This book was released on 2015-11-06 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our understanding of the physical and chemical processes that regulate the evolution of magmatic systems has improved tremendously since the foundations were laid down 100 years ago by Bowen. The concept of crustal magma chambers has progressively evolved from molten-rock vats to thermally, chemically and physically heterogeneous reservoirs that are kept active by the periodic injection of magma. This new model, while more complex, provides a better framework to interpret volcanic activity and decipher the information contained in intrusive and extrusive rocks. Igneous and metamorphic petrology, geochemistry, geochronology, and numerical modelling, all contributed towards this new picture of crustal magmatic systems. This book provides an overview of the wide range of approaches that can nowadays be used to understand the chemical, physical and temporal evolution of magmatic and volcanic systems.
