Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2013 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, grade: 1 (Sehr Gut), University of Graz (Anglistik), course: Proseminar Literary Studies (Poetry), language: English, abstract: In the following term paper I am going to analyse the sonnet 60 by William Shakespeare. The aim of this paper is to examine sonnet 60 in matters of its external form, its discourse and story level as well as its various different interpretations in general. I decided to focus primarily on the sonnet itself and targeted to provide an accurate description of the poem’s characteristic features, syntactic and semantic levels as well as its phonetics and how these factors influence the meaning of the sonnet. Therefore I will not go into details concerning the sonnet’s author William Shakespeare or the poem’s history of origins. Nevertheless I engaged myself with some secondary literature in order to gain a broader insight into the matter of the subject. A list of literature, I used for this interpretation can be found in the bibliography below. Along with this secondary literature the term paper is generally based on the information, provided by the power point presentation of the course Literary Studies 1.

It is widely considered to be one of his most obscure works and has led to many conflicting interpretations. The poem describes a funeral arranged for the deceased Phoenix and Turtledove, respectively emblems of perfection and of devoted love. Some birds are invited, but others excluded. It goes on to state that the love of the birds created a perfect unity which transcended all logic and material fact. It concludes with a prayer for the dead lovers.

Book excerpt: Essay from the year 2006 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, grade: 2,3, University of Wuppertal (Geistes- und Kulturwissenschaften), course: Literaturwissenschaftlicher Grundkurs, 4 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: Shakespeare's sonnets are a collection of 154 poems. Sonnets 153 and 154 do not belong to the real collection because they are adaptations of classical antic verses about Cupid and therefore distinguished from the first 152 poems because Shakespeare treated the Patriarchal convention of the sonnets in his own way. Shakespeare treats these themes in his own, distinctive fashion—most notably by addressing the poems of love and praise not to a fair woman but instead to a young man; and by including a second subject of passion: a woman of questionable attractiveness and virtue. The sonnets, taken together, are frequently described as a sequence, and this is generally divided into two sections. Shakespeare Sonnets 1-126 focus on a handsome young man and the speaker's emotional friendship with him that could sometimes be interpreted either as asexual or sexual. The nature of this friendship is treated as ideal love as in the Patriarchal convention. Sonnets 127-152 focus on the speaker's relationship with a woman the so-called ‘dark lady’ who is the counterpart of the innocent beautiful maid in Patriarchal sonnets. The lyrical I has an “obsessive”1 sexual love affair with her. I compare sonnets numbered 60 and 144 because the first one deals with the universal concerns of time and its passing and the second took note of the speaker ́s seperation of physical love and more down-to-earth sensations connected with it. Moreover it is the only sonnet that explicitly refers to both the Dark Lady and the young man. This sonnets are neatly organized following the structure of the Shakespearean sonnet and its common rhyme scheme abab, cdcd, efef,gg with a iambic pentameter. ---Bibliographie > Hühn, Peter. (1995). Book excerpt: Essay from the year 2010 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, grade: 1,0, University of Tubingen, language: English, abstract: In William Shakespeare’s (1564 – 1616) “Sonnet 130”, published 1609 in his book “Shakespeare’s Sonnets”, the speaker talks about his mistress who does not correspond with the ideals of beauty. The speaker compares her with beautiful things, but he cannot find a similarity. But he points out that his love does not depend on how she looks like. This poem is the total opposite of William Shakespeare’s “Sonnet 18” and makes it, and other poems from this century, look ridiculously and superficially.

After exploring the concepts of interpretability, you will learn about simple, interpretable models such as decision trees, decision rules and linear regression. Later chapters focus on general model-agnostic methods for interpreting black box models like feature importance and accumulated local effects and explaining individual predictions with Shapley values and LIME. All interpretation methods are explained in depth and discussed critically. How do they work under the hood? What are their strengths and weaknesses? How can their outputs be interpreted? This book will enable you to select and correctly apply the interpretation method that is most suitable for your machine learning project.
