Download or read book Sewing God written by Thomas Ramadhani SJ and published by Partridge Publishing Singapore. This book was released on 2019-06-12 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How many priests grew up in a fashion industry? In this regard, Father Ramadhani can boast to be a rare breed. Cherishing his childhood memories with his mother whose passion was (and still is) in sewing, applying the Ignatian practice of contemplative in action, and listening to the voices from the Bible, he leads us through the inner paths in the fashion world. From buying the right fabric to dressing up and beyond, all the thirty chapters offer new metaphors for life and faith journey. Together they echo an unlikely invitation to encounter the divine in what seems to be the glamorously superficial world. This book has been designed as a month-long immersion in the fashion world. It also wants to bring together to one table fellowship the underpaid workers in many garment factories on the globe, the designers, and the supermodels. Everyone who is called to participate in the fashion world is invited to tap on the sacred, right before their very eyes every single day. Hence, “finding God in the fashion world” is not only possible, but it is more than obvious.

Book Synopsis The Year of Living like Jesus by : Edward G. Dobson
Download or read book The Year of Living like Jesus written by Edward G. Dobson and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2009-11-10 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “It may appear from the cover that this is a nice book about growing a beard because Jesus did but be warned- you will quickly discover that Ed's adventure takes him, and us, deep into the heart of grace, mercy and the endless discovery of just what the way of Jesus looks like - which, of course, has very little to do with having a beard.”—Rob Bell, Jesus Wants To Save Christians “Inspiring, insightful, sometimes infuriating, often funny, a little weird (like its author) and a must read for anyone wanting to become a serious follower of Jesus Christ” —Cal Thomas “Highly, highly recommended” —Brian McLaren Evangelical pastor Ed Dobson had a radical idea… “Live one year as Jesus lived. Eat as Jesus ate. Pray as Jesus prayed. Observe the sabbath as Jesus observed. Attend the Jewish festivals as Jesus attended. Read the Gospels every week." Dobson’s transition from someone who follows Jesus to someone who lives like Jesus takes him into bars, inspires him to pick up hitchhikers, and deepens his understanding of suffering. Living like Jesus is quite different from what we imagine. “It may appear from the cover that this is a nice book about growing a beard because Jesus did but be warned- you will quickly discover that Ed's adventure takes him, and us, deep into the heart of grace, mercy and the endless discovery of just what the way of Jesus looks like - which, of course, has very little to do with having a beard.”—Rob Bell, Jesus Wants To Save Christians

Book Synopsis Choosing the Jesus Way by : Angela Tarango
Download or read book Choosing the Jesus Way written by Angela Tarango and published by UNC Press Books. This book was released on 2014-04-21 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Choosing the Jesus Way uncovers the history and religious experiences of the first American Indian converts to Pentecostalism. Focusing on the Assemblies of God denomination, the story begins in 1918, when white missionaries fanned out from the South and Midwest to convert Native Americans in the West and other parts of the country. Drawing on new approaches to the global history of Pentecostalism, Angela Tarango shows how converted indigenous leaders eventually transformed a standard Pentecostal theology of missions in ways that reflected their own religious struggles and advanced their sovereignty within the denomination. Key to the story is the Pentecostal "indigenous principle," which encourages missionaries to train local leadership in hopes of creating an indigenous church rooted in the culture of the missionized. In Tarango's analysis, the indigenous principle itself was appropriated by the first generation of Native American Pentecostals, who transformed it to critique aspects of the missionary project and to argue for greater religious autonomy. More broadly, Tarango scrutinizes simplistic views of religious imperialism and demonstrates how religious forms and practices are often mutually influenced in the American experience.
