Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FROM THE PREFACE Wastewater collection systems are dynamic, not static. There is no single maintenance method, equipment, or technique that works best. Keeping an open mind, trying new techniques and technologies benefits sewer system operators. No two collection systems are alike. Maintenance staffing, skill levels, equipment, budgets, age and complexity of the system make each agency unique. However, collection systems do have many traits and problems in common. Based on inventory and analysis, problems are identified. Defects may then be prioritized, and corrective maintenance operations put into effect. Preventive maintenance techniques can be applied to all collection systems. Preventive maintenance is cost-effective; it strives to prevent problems from occurring rather than reacting to difficult situations and "putting out fires." This book examines problems shared by all agencies: roots, grease, deterioration, hydraulic inefficiencies and structural defects. New solutions to age-old problems are applied: TV inspection and video interpretation, rehabilitation analysis and trenchless technologies. Computerized maintenance management and GIS softwares are discussed. Jetting, line cleaning and exciting developments in nozzle technology are included. Roots and chemical root control foam, wastewater control and grease are major topics as well. Wastewater Collection System Maintenance shares insights drawn from operator experience, trial and error, successes and failures in the field, interviews and years of research and studies. A user-friendly rating and evaluation system is explained and applied to field conditions. Equipment operation and maintenance, and "tricks of the trade" are also discussed. As cities grow, new systems are extended upstream from older sewers. Many of these core drainage basins are now under capacity and in need of capital improvement projects. There are approximately 600,000 miles of sanitary sewers in the country. Nationwide, there exists a huge backlog of sewer pipes that need rehabilitation. Replacement would cost many billions of dollars. Maintenance operators are entrusted with the care and feeding of an aging sewer infrastructure.

This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydroinformatics systems are systems that combine computational hydraulic modelling with information systems (including knowledge-based systems). They are gaining rapid acceptance in the areas of environmental planning, design and management. The present book focuses exclusively on sewage systems, starting with their planning and then going on to discuss their design, operation and rehabilitation. The very experienced authors discuss business and information needs in the management of urban drainage, tools for collecting and archiving such data, and their use in modelling catchment hydrology, sewer systems hydraulics, wastewater quality, wastewater treatment plant operation, and receiving waters. The control and operation of sewer systems in real time is described, followed by a discussion of their maintenance and rehabilitation. Intelligent decision support systems for managing the urban drainage business process are presented. Audience: Researchers into sewer design, municipal engineers, planners and managers interested in an innovative approach to all aspects of the planning, design and operation of sewer systems.

Book Synopsis Solids in Sewers by : Richard M. Ashley
Download or read book Solids in Sewers written by Richard M. Ashley and published by IWA Publishing. This book was released on 2004-04-30 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Report presents information on the current state of knowledge of the origins, occurrence, nature and effects of sewer solids for use by engineers, scientists, administrators and water quality planners for the planning, design and operation of sewerage systems. The report addresses both sewer maintenance requirements and environmental protection issues. Increasing environmental standards, coupled with public expectations, have led to stringent water quality standards. In response to this, it has been necessary to develop new methodologies and computer based analytical techniques to model and understand the performance of all aspects of waste water systems. Fundamental to these techniques is the understanding of the way in which sewer solids contribute to the poor performance of wastewater systems and consequential environmental damage. The information presented in this Report about the origins, nature, movement, hydraulic and polluting effects of solids in sewers has enabled strategies and rules to be developed for the management of sewerage systems to minimise the deleterious effects of these solids and associated pollutants. Book Synopsis Serger Repair for the Home Sewer by : Reuben O. Doyle
Download or read book Serger Repair for the Home Sewer written by Reuben O. Doyle and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-12-21 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do it yourself Serger machine repair!!! Sound like a far fetched idea? Not so, according to Reuben O. Doyle, a sewing machine repairman of 25 years and author of "Serger Repair for the Home Sewer." "In over 75% of the repair jobs I get, the home sewer/crafter could easily have handled the job if only they'd known what to look for. In about 25% of the repair jobs I go out on, the problem is such a minor one that anyone with a checklist of what to look for could fix it in seconds, but I have to charge them the same service fee as on any repair job. Of course any broken parts need to be taken to an authorized service repairman for repair or replacement, but those types of service calls are by far the minority!" Written in step by step instructional style, this book takes the serger machine owner through problem/solution scenarios allowing them to fix problems that can cause a lot of frustration for those who sew. Whether you have an older model machine, or one of the newer models, this book will help keep your general repair costs to a minimum. The home sewer can now just look up the problem in this handy guide book and follow the instructions on how to fix it. YES, it's now as easy to fix your serger machine as picking up a book!
