Book Synopsis Outer Order, Inner Calm by : Gretchen Rubin
Download or read book Outer Order, Inner Calm written by Gretchen Rubin and published by Harmony. This book was released on 2019-03-05 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • In this lovely, easy-to-use illustrated guide to decluttering, the beloved author of The Happiness Project shows us how to take control of our stuff—and, by extension, our lives. Gretchen Rubin knows firsthand that creating order can make our lives happier, healthier, more productive, and more creative. But for most of us, a rigid, one-size-fits-all solution doesn't work. When we tailor our approach to suit our own particular challenges and habits, we can find inner calm. With a sense of fun, and a clear idea of what’s realistic for most people, Rubin suggests dozens of manageable tips and tricks for creating a more serene, orderly environment, including: • Never label anything “miscellaneous.” • Ask yourself, “Do I need more than one?” • Don’t aim for minimalism. • Remember: If you can’t retrieve it, you won’t use it. • Stay current with a child’s interests. • Beware the urge to “procrasticlear.” By getting rid of things we don’t use, don’t need, or don’t love, we free our minds (and our shelves) for what we truly value.
Download or read book The Place of Law written by Larry Barnett and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-09-08 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this stimulating volume, Larry D. Barnett locates a fundamental defect in widespread assumptions regarding the institution of law. He asserts that scholarship on law is being led astray by currently accepted beliefs about the institution, and as a result progress in understanding law as a societal institution will be impeded until a more accurate view of law is accepted. This book takes on this challenge. The Place of Law addresses two questions that are at the heart of the institution of law. Why is law an evidently universal, enduring institution in societies characterized by a relatively high level of economic development and a relatively high degree of social complexity? And why do the concepts and doctrines of the institution of law differ between jurisdictions (states or nations) at one point in time and vary within a particular jurisdiction over time? These two questions, Barnett believes, should be prominent in any study of law. The framework for law Barnett proposes is concerned with activities that are fundamental aspects of social organization, that is, activities that are deeply embedded in social life. His viewpoint is grounded on a body of quantitative research pertinent to the societal sources and limits of law. Barnett argues that this perspective applies only to law in sovereign, democratic nations that are economically advanced and socially complex. In other environments, law's place as a societal institution is less secure. This innovative perspective will do much to enhance understanding and appreciation of the role of law in modern societies.

Download or read book Global Tantra written by Julian Strube and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2022 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Beyond introducing the subject matter and critically surveying the state of scholarship, this introduction offers a substantial theoretical and methodological elucidation of the book's approach that is also relevant for readers not strictly interested in the specialized subject. Combining perspectives from religious studies, global history, South Asian studies, and the study of esotericism, the foundations of global religious history are discussed both in abstraction and in light of the source material. This especially considers historiographical challenges such as (post)colonialism, Eurocentrism, or Orientalism, as well as issues such as the blurry meaning of "global connections" and differentiations between the global, regional, and local. Leading themes such as the contested meaning of tradition, revival, reform, and modernity are scrutinized, as are the relationship and meanings of religion, science, esotericism, and nationalism that remain the subject of scholarly debate. Global religious history makes proposals for resolving such debates by eliding disciplinary boundaries"--
Download or read book The Rose Garden written by Maeve Brennan and published by Catapult. This book was released on 2015-04-15 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A literary event—twenty short stories by the late Maeve Brennan, one of The new Yorker's most admired writers. Five are set in the author's native Dublin, a city, like Joyce's, of paralyzed souls and unexpressed love. the others are set in and around her adopted Manhattan, which she once called "the capsized city—half–capsized, anyway, with the inhabitants hanging on, most of them still able to laugh as they cling to the island that is their life's predicament." Some of the stories are quietly tender, some ferociously satirical, some unique in their chilly emotional weather. All are Maeve Brennan at her incomparable best.
