Download or read book Canadian Managerial Accounting Cases written by Lynn Carty and published by Wiley Global Education. This book was released on 2015-12-04 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Managerial accounting gives managers the information they need to make decisions for the future. That’s why managerial accounting and cases are a perfect fit because both focus on future decision-making. While textbooks explain concepts and allow students to master problems, cases go above and beyond. Cases challenge students to critically examine the facts, analyze alternatives from a quantitative and qualitative perspective, and make recommendations. Canadian Managerial Accounting Cases presents cases on a variety of topics at either an introductory or intermediate level of difficulty. There is at least one case on each topic in a typical managerial accounting textbook so that instructors can use the case method throughout their course. Cases are a great way to support learner-centered teaching. Classes become a forum for instructors and students to go beyond lectures and problems by discussing and analyzing the case together. Detailed teaching notes help instructors plan their lessons and facilitate in-class discussions. Students are given a framework for analyzing managerial accounting cases, similar to the framework used in the professional accounting exams, as well as questions to help them in their case analysis. These questions vary in the level of detail so students can grow their case analysis skills. Students learning managerial accounting with cases can see how managerial accounting is used in organizations. They’ll gain experience in examining the facts, analyzing alternatives, and making decisions—all valuable skills no matter where students’ career paths take them.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To compete with today's increasing globalization and rapidly evolving technologies, individuals and organizations must take their ability to learn—the foundation for continuous improvement, operational excellence, and innovation—to a much higher level. In Learn or Die, Edward D. Hess combines recent advances in neuroscience, psychology, behavioral economics, and education with key research on high-performance businesses to create an actionable blueprint for becoming a leading-edge learning organization. Learn or Die examines the process of learning from an individual and an organizational standpoint. From an individual perspective, the book discusses the cognitive, emotional, motivational, attitudinal, and behavioral factors that promote better learning. Organizationally, Learn or Die focuses on the kinds of structures, culture, leadership, employee learning behaviors, and human resource policies that are necessary to create an environment that enables critical and innovative thinking, learning conversations, and collaboration. The volume also provides strategies to mitigate the reality that humans can be reflexive, lazy thinkers who seek confirmation of what they believe to be true and affirmation of their self-image. Exemplar learning organizations discussed include the secretive Bridgewater Associates, LP; Intuit, Inc.; United Parcel Service (UPS); W. L. Gore & Associates; and IDEO.

Book Synopsis Dances with Dependency by : Calvin Helin
Download or read book Dances with Dependency written by Calvin Helin and published by Open Road Media. This book was released on 2014-07-01 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dances with Dependency offers effective strategies to eliminate welfare dependency and help eradicate poverty among indigenous populations. Beginning with an impassioned and insightful portrait of today’s native communities, it connects the prevailing impoverishment and despair directly to a “dependency mindset” forged by welfare economics. To reframe this debilitating mindset, it advocates policy reform in conjunction with a return to native peoples’ ten-thousand-year tradition of self-reliance based on personal responsibility and cultural awareness. Author Calvin Helin, un-tethered to agendas of political correctness or partisan politics, describes the mounting crisis as an impending demographic tsunami threatening both the United States and Canada. In the United States, where government entitlement programs for diverse ethnic minorities coexist with an already huge national debt, he shows how prosperity is obviously at stake. This looming demographic tidal wave viewed constructively, however, can become an opportunity for reform—among not only indigenous peoples of North America but any impoverished population struggling with dependency in inner cities, developing nations, and post-totalitarian countries.

Book Synopsis Dancing for Hathor by : Carolyn Graves-Brown
Download or read book Dancing for Hathor written by Carolyn Graves-Brown and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2010-05-07 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fragmentary evidence allows us only tantalising glimpses of the sophisticated and complex society of the ancient Egyptians, but the Greek historian Herodotus believed that the Egyptians had 'reversed the ordinary practices of mankind' in treating their women better than any of the other civilizations of the ancient world . Carolyn Graves-Brown draws on funerary remains, tomb paintings, architecture and textual evidence to explore all aspects of women in Egypt from goddesses and queens to women as the 'vessels of creation'. Perhaps surprisingly the most common career for women, after housewife and mother, was the priesthood, where women served deities, notably Hathor, with music and dance. Many would come to the temples of Hathor to have their dreams interpreted, or to seek divine inspiration. This is a wide ranging and revealing account told with authority and verve.
Book Synopsis The Skin of Murder Victims by : Brian Dalrymple
Download or read book The Skin of Murder Victims written by Brian Dalrymple and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This full-color book focuses on the detection and recovery of the most powerful kind of physical evidence: the traces left behind by a killer on the body of his victim, most notably fingerprints, but also other important transfers, including shoeprints, blood impressions and writing -- evidence that has been found concurrent with the search for fingerprints. Very little other evidence offers such a high inculpatory or exculpatory potential. The search for fingerprints on the skin of murder victims began in the 1930s, with the inception of a relatively minor technique for difficult surfaces. Decades later, it would be the center of the first comprehensive research into detecting fingerprints on human skin, using actual cadavers. The highly successful results would lead a Canadian police force to be the first to formally offer this service to homicide investigators. Other periodic case successes would be reported over the following years, featuring a range of methods. Body examinations are time and planning dependent, must be conducted prior to or concurrent with the autopsy process, and require the cooperation and approval of the medical examiners, pathologists and other partners in the investigation of homicide, all of whom will find this information valuable. Homicide is the most serious offense investigated by police. Hidden evidence of many kinds lies on the skin of murder victims, to remain concealed unless it is sought by those with the knowledge and intention to find it. The precise procedures, formulas and equipment of proven successful techniques are outlined, providing critical information for all professionals in homicide investigation who desire not only to apply the methods correctly, but also to add this technology to their program delivery.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Amid ongoing shifts in the world economic and political order, the promise for future public health is tenuous. Will today's economic systems sustain tomorrow's health? Will future generations inherit fair access to health and health care? An important hope for the health of future generations is the establishment of a well-grounded, global public health system. Global Public Health: Ecological Foundations addresses both the challenges and cooperative solutions of contemporary public health, within a framework of social justice, environmental sustainability, and global cooperation. With an emphasis on ecological foundations, this book approaches public health principles-history, foundations, topics, and applications-with a community-oriented perspective. By achieving global reach through cooperative, community-based interventions, this text illustrates that the practical application of public health principles can help maintain the health of the world's people. Blending established wisdom with new perspectives, Global Public Health will stimulate better understanding of how the different streams of public health can work more synergistically to promote global health equity. It is a foundation for future public health measures to be built and to succeed.
