Book Synopsis Social Welfare Programs and Social Work Education at a Crossroads by : Antonio López Peláez
Download or read book Social Welfare Programs and Social Work Education at a Crossroads written by Antonio López Peláez and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-07-17 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores a key phenomenon that has been accelerated by the COVID-19 crisis, namely, the crossroads at which social welfare professionals find themselves. This is a crossroads where, on the one hand, there is an accelerated digitalization process and a reorganization of social programs, while on the other hand, we are confronted by the basic challenge of designing social policies and their methods of evaluation, that is, the generation of robust data that will allow better evaluation of social projects and programs. Rigorously analyzing the crossroads at which social welfare programs find themselves and the new demands for the education of professionals involved in social welfare programs, several key issues can be discerned; • the theoretical debate surrounding the changes brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic and the process of redefining globalization in which we are immersed. • the challenges to be met by welfare programs, and the good practices that are being implemented. • the key issue of how to generate more robust data in the field of social services and social protection. • how to increase the competencies of professionals through education in schools of social work. Providing 15 newly written chapters drawn from both the global north and the global south, it offers a set of recommendations to address the challenges of inequality and social inclusion in the coming years. It will be of interest to all academics, students and practitioners working in the fields of social work, social welfare and social development.

Book Synopsis The Routledge International Handbook to Welfare State Systems by : Christian Aspalter
Download or read book The Routledge International Handbook to Welfare State Systems written by Christian Aspalter and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-11-30 with total page 1009 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developing countries may not have full-fledged welfare states like those we find in Europe, but certainly they have welfare state systems. For comparative social policy research, the term "welfare state systems" has many advantages, as there are numerous different types/models of welfare state systems around the world. This revised and expanded second edition brings together leading experts to discuss social policy in 32 countries/regions around the world: from the most advanced welfare state systems in Scandinavia and Western Central Europe to the developing powers of Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, and Russia. Country-specific chapters provide in general a historical overview, discuss major characteristics of the welfare state system, and analyze country-specific problems, as well as critical current and future trends for further discussions, while also providing one (additional) major focal point/issue for greater in-depth analysis. Including new country case studies on Mali, South Africa, Iceland, Spain, Italy, Greece, and Vietnam, this book is reframed around urgent contemporary issues including migration and rising social inequalities, LGBTQIA+ rights, universal basic income, and transboundary social policy. It will be of great interest to all scholars and students of social policy, social development, development economists and health economists, experts in public policy, health policy (including mental health policy), housing policy, education policy, family policy, cis- and trans-gender policy, migration and population policy, sociology, social work, anthropology, as well as social policy and public policy makers and administrators.

Book Synopsis Towards the sustainability of the Mexican National Health System by : Yessica Pamela Flores Subias
Download or read book Towards the sustainability of the Mexican National Health System written by Yessica Pamela Flores Subias and published by Editorial Fontamara S. A. de C. V.. This book was released on 2023-11-09 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book was oriented towards achieving two main objectives. The first of them was to create a description of the main changes that have been made to the system since the beginning of the 2018-2024 Administration in Mexico. The diversity of the reforms and their scope make it difficult for the population to follow up on them and know how their right to health protection will be guaranteed. Thus, understanding the impact and extension of the reforms was one of the priorities of this study. Consequently, it was sought to develop a consultation document that allows identifying the current state of the SNS. The World Health Organization (who) has pointed out that health systems comprise all the institutions, organizations and resources used to produce actions aimed at improving health. Its performance can be measured based on its ability to respond to the needs of the population through actions such as increasing equality in access to health, reducing health risks and protecting individuals from the financial consequences caused by hight costs deseases. In this way, it is imperative that health systems have an efficient design that allows guaranteeing the protection of the right to health.
Book Synopsis Social and Economic Vulnerability of Roma People by : Maria Manuela Mendes
Download or read book Social and Economic Vulnerability of Roma People written by Maria Manuela Mendes and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-02-08 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access volume provides an understanding of the different aspects of success, school continuity and social mobility among European Roma, including the motives justifying the high rates of school dropout and failure among this group. It offers a critical and reflexive perspective about social reality from a multidisciplinary and transversal point of view, sharing knowledge and practices in different countries about the articulations between Roma families, individuals, school and public policies. Over time, there has been an increase in the educational attainment of European citizens, but there are still persistent inequalities between Roma and non-Roma, including gender inequalities, which greatly affect Roma women. The volume explores the issue of Roma education and includes chapters from Western European, South and Central and Eastern European researchers using different theoretical and methodological perspectives. The intersection of this diversity and plurality of standpoints makes possible to obtain a comprehensive view on the education and schooling of European Roma.
Book Synopsis Reassembling Social Security by : Carmelo Mesa-Lago

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The reform of social security pensions and healthcare is a key issue for the modern world, and in many ways Latin America has acted as a social laboratory for the reform of these systems. From the reforms that took place in Chile in 1981, most pension and health care systems in the region have seen reform, and been fully or partially privatized. Many other countries considering reform of their own systems have been influenced by the policies implemented in Latin America. Yet despite the importance and influence of these reforms, until now there has not been an integrated and comprehensive analysis of the changes and their effects. This book is the result of four years of painstaking work, data collection, field research and international collaboration, and so fills the vacuum in the literature with a systematic comparison of pension and healthcare reforms in the 20 Latin American countries. It identifies reform models, and elaborates taxonomies to facilitate their understanding and comparison. Some key features of the reforms to emerge are: labour force and population coverage, equity and solidarity, sufficiency and quality of benefits, state regulation, competition and degree of privatization, efficiency and administrative costs, social participation in management, financing sources and long-term sustainability. Effects of the reforms on social security principles are measured based on recent standardized statistics and other information. Goals or assumptions of the reforms are contrasted with actual outcomes, and the pros and cons of private versus private provision assessed. Detailed policy recommendations are offered to correct current problems and improve pension and healthcare systems. This is the first book to comprehensively study these influential reforms in Latin America's pension and health care systems, and as such will be of importance to academics and researchers interested in social security and welfare policy, pensions, health care, and public policy; Social security, pension, and health care policy-makers; And social security, pension, and health care consultants and practitioners.
