Book Synopsis Mathias Goeritz by : Jennifer Josten
Download or read book Mathias Goeritz written by Jennifer Josten and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2018-01-01 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first major work in English on Mathias Goeritz (1915-1990), this book illuminates the artist's pivotal role within the landscape of twentieth-century modernism. Goeritz became recognized as an abstract sculptor after arriving in Mexico from Germany by way of Spain in 1949. His call to integrate abstract forms into civic and religious architecture, outlined in his "Emotional Architecture" manifesto, had a transformative impact on midcentury Mexican art and design. While best known for the experimental museum El Eco and his collaborations with the architect Luis Barrag n, including the brightly colored towers of Satellite City, Goeritz also shaped the Bauhaus-inspired curriculum at Guadalajara's School of Architecture and the iconic Cultural Program of Mexico City's 1968 Olympic Games. Josten addresses the Cold War implications of these and other initiatives that pitted Goeritz, an advocate of internationalist abstraction, against Diego Rivera and David Alfaro Siqueiros, ardent defenders of the realist style that prevailed in official Mexican art during the postrevolutionary period. Exploring Goeritz's dialogues with leading figures among the Parisian and New York avant-gardes, such as Yves Klein and Philip Johnson, Josten shows how Goeritz's approach to modernism, which was highly attuned to politics and place, formed part of a global enterprise.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 25th issue of ICOM Education that I have the pleasure to introduce has two new features: – it is sponsored by the European Union; – all CECA members were invited to present a contribution. The European Union sponsored our journal through EMEE EuroVision - Museums Exhibiting Europe, a project led by the University of Augsburg, whose purpose is to explore an innovative, interdisciplinary approach for museums to re-interpret their objects. Therefore the core of the project is the change of perspective (COP). The project partners all considered CECA as an outstanding platform to disseminate the project, which is a further proof of the reputation of our Committee. […] (Emma Nardi)
Book Synopsis Teaching Modern Latin American Poetries by : Jill S. Kuhnheim
Download or read book Teaching Modern Latin American Poetries written by Jill S. Kuhnheim and published by Modern Language Association. This book was released on 2019-11-01 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The essays in this book, groundbreaking for its focus on teaching Latin American poetry, reflect the region's geographic and cultural heterogeneity. They address works from Mexico, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Cuba, Brazil, Argentina, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Uruguay, as well as from indigenous communities found within these national distinctions, including the Kaqchikel Maya and Zapotec. The volume's essays help instructors teach poetry written from the second half of the twentieth century on, meaningfully connecting this contemporary corpus with older poetic traditions. Contributors address teaching various topics, from the silva and the long poem to Afro-descendant poetry, in ways that bring performance, digital approaches, queer theory, and translation into action. The insights offered here will demonstrate how Latin American poetry can become a part of classes in African diasporic studies, indigenous studies, history, and anthropology.
Book Synopsis JEFF ROLAND RETROSPECTIVE by : Jeff Roland
Download or read book JEFF ROLAND RETROSPECTIVE written by Jeff Roland and published by jeff roland. This book was released on 2021-09-18 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My art is a gateway to your own understanding. It intends to make you dig a Little Deeper and forget reality for an instant. Letting your mind tell you and see how your soul deep inside responds, you will find that somehow we all share some desires as humans : we need a work of art that will give you hope, in which you will find the motivation of your happiness as an individual, completely fulfilled within the childhood dreams you set so long ago for yourself, and also as a member of a community of other singular individuals who are essential to your growth. In my book, I opened a bag of memories making it clear that we advance and, even if we feel that we remain pretty much the same, it is only by Looking Back that we can see any evolution. And mainly that there is clearly someone that we become! Through my paintings and my words, I want to inspire you to walk your own path, in your own terms, with a determined belief in a future of Hope and joy. Let's be Dissidents. Let's not resign. I created this illustrated book with my artworks and some experiences of my life . Honoured by the incredible support of many friends, who follow my work and read my reflections , I decided to make it available and within reach of everyone. I wanted to share the evolution of my Art. The book is written in English, Spanish and French.
