Book Synopsis The Rule of Faith and Biblical Interpretation by : Robert C. Fennell
Download or read book The Rule of Faith and Biblical Interpretation written by Robert C. Fennell and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-02-02 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among the dizzying array of approaches to reading the Bible, the oldest, most revered interpretive tool rises above the rest: the Rule of Faith. Faithful interpretation of Scripture in the postmodern context has much to learn from this ancient principle. Deeper engagement with the sacred text flourishes with the assistance of the Rule of Faith. That engagement in turn renews the Body of Christ. This book explores the interpretive practices of great reformers and renewers of the church, including Luther, Calvin, and Wesley, who kept up a lively dialogue with the ancient authors of the Christian movement. In that dialogue, they discovered a dynamic guide to better exegesis. Robert C. Fennell provides a compelling account of faithful interpreters from the past whose example inspires contemporary readers as they seek to understand the Bible.

Book Synopsis Deeper Christian Faith, Revised Edition by : Ted A. Campbell
Download or read book Deeper Christian Faith, Revised Edition written by Ted A. Campbell and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-09-17 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of Deeper Christian Faith is to form Christians in such a depth of Christian faith, grounded in biblical, historical, and ecumenical insights, that they can state with confidence what they believe and practice in common with other Christians and grow in the self-giving love at the heart of the Christian faith. The book is a "re-sounding," a re-catechism for Christians who seek deeper formation in beliefs and practices widely received in Christian communities. Anchored by focus texts that allow readers to meditate on biblical and historic texts in ancient formats as well as contemporary translations, this intensive program of study allows contemporary Christians to experience the rich, alien, and mysterious worlds of historic Christian teachings and practices. The book follows the central theme of the self-giving love of God, revealed in Jesus Christ, and then formed in the life of a believer.
Book Synopsis A Thematic Access-Oriented Bibliography of Jesus’s Resurrection by : Michael J. Alter
Download or read book A Thematic Access-Oriented Bibliography of Jesus’s Resurrection written by Michael J. Alter and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-12-31 with total page 602 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The keystone of Christianity is Jesus's physical, bodily resurrection. Present-day scholars can be significantly challenged as they forage through voluminous documents on the resurrection of Jesus. The literature measures well over seven thousand sources in English-language books alone. This makes finding specific sources that are most relevant for specific scholarly purposes an arduous task. Even when a specific book is relevant, finding the parts of the book that are most relevant to the resurrection rather than other topics often requires additional effort. A Thematic Access-Oriented Bibliography of Jesus's Resurrection addresses these challenges in several ways. First, the bibliography organizes more than seven thousand English sources into twelve main categories and then thirty-four subcategories, which are designed to help you find the most relevant literature quickly and efficiently. Embedded are pro and con arguments which support efficient access through brief annotations and then annotate the diversity and complexity of the field of religion by including sources that represent a diverse range of views: theistic (e.g., Christian, Jewish, Muslim, etc.), agnostic, and nontheistic. The objective of this bibliography is to provide convenient access to relevant sources from a variety of perspectives, allowing you to browse or find the one source accurately and with ease.
Book Synopsis The Legend of Guy of Warwick by : Velma Bourgeois Richmond
Download or read book The Legend of Guy of Warwick written by Velma Bourgeois Richmond and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-11-18 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1996. This lavishly illustrated study is a comprehensive literary and social history which offers a record of changing genres, manuscript/book production, and cultural, political, and religious emphases by examining one of the most long lived popular legends in England. Guy of Warwick became part of history when he was named in chronicles and heraldic rolls. The power of the Earls of Warwick, especially Richard de Beauchamp, inspired the spread of the legend, but Guy's highest fame came in the Renaissance as one of the Nine Worthies. Widely praised in texts and allusions, Guy's feats were sung in ballads and celebrated on the stage in England and France. The first Anglo-Norman romance of Gui de Warewic, a Saxon hero of the tenth century was written in the early 13th century; the latest retellings of the legend are contemporary. Examples of Guy's legend can be found in two English translations that survived the Middle Ages, a new French prose romance, a didactic tale in the Gesta Romanorum, and late medieval versions in Celtic, German, and Catalan, as well as English. Guy remained a favorite Edwardian children's story and was featured in the Warwick Pageant, an historical extravaganza of 1906. The patriotism of World War II sparked a resurgence of interest that produced several new versions, mostly folkloric.
