Book excerpt: Nothing happens unless first a dream. Carl Sandberg THE DREAM CATCHERS is comprised of an extraordinary series of reports on Bynums experiences and adventures with cowboys, hippies, athletes, gang members, soldiers, actors, dreamers, and people like you. The author not only carried his research skills into the social arena, but approached each group with his own Christian experience and world view. Thus, each chapter reflects not only Bynums quest for scientific understanding of his subjects distinctive problems, behavior, hopes, and dreams, but explanations are supported by fascinating Biblical and historical insights. Practical applications of new findings relevant to all our lives are made on interesting issues and questions such as the following: 1. Why is loneliness the most common social problem in the world? 2. Why do some young people become hippies or join violent street gangs? 3. Is physical appearance related to social acceptance and deviant behavior? 4. Were Old Testament cowboys and herdsmen used by God in crisis situations? 5. Are all of us actors on the stage of life? 6. How did Jesus control an unruly crowd disrupting His teaching? 7. What is the formula for achieving your high aspirations? 8. How do the social relationships of soldiers affect their survival in battle? THE DREAM CATCHERS is appropriate for adult readers of all agesbut especially for young people as they plan and prepare for their own future.

Book excerpt: Here are practical, easy-to-read essays that portray what one practitioner perceives happens in psychotherapy. He reports his perceptions in a style that is both admittedly subjective and is easy to understand. What Einstein is reported to have said about the universe seems applicable to all of life, and to psychotherapy: "When I stand at the edge of the universe and look out it appears to be more like a great idea than a great machine." In listening to troubled people he works with every day, he jots down ideas for monographs and eventually writes up some of them. Out of some five hundred of these ideas, here are 65 which he calls "discoveries" or "observations" or "solutions to problems." They are "Serendipitous" in that they appeared unexpectedly along the traveled way. His main reason for writing them is so his children (both of whom are successful psychotherapists), and his students will remember some of his thoughts and his ideas of how therapy works. About his therapy he says, "I use lots of metaphors in my work, ala Milton Erickson. Central in this book, as in my practice, is an emphasis on Communication. As a Transactional Analyst, first trained in Psychoanalysis, I hold Sigmund FreudOs two basic ideas sacred: 1) the causative nature of all behavior, and 2) the importance of the unconscious. Hence my interest in Dream Analysis and Body Language. And because I firmly believe 'The way you talk is the way you is,' I place a lot of emphasis on semantics."

Book Synopsis Catching the Dream by : Joyce W. Leo & Nathalie Roy
Download or read book Catching the Dream written by Joyce W. Leo & Nathalie Roy and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-03-26 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Catching the Dream is a collection of poems written by 14 poets from all over the world. These poets all share a common trait: they fell in love with Susan Boyle´s voice and personality and were inspired enough to join a fan site (for the first time ever for most of them) where they discovered each other and enjoyed the pleasures of cyber-creation and communication. Long-time lovers of words and word games, they naturally expressed the joy and wonderment they felt through poetry. Their common adventure started with playing a word tag game of having the "Last Word." As they shared thoughts and feelings, experimenting different poetic styles, they gained trust with each other and joined on the same journey -- ultimately taking the form of individual spiritual quests into the common humanity that unites us all. Calling themselves the Golden Girls, these poets reflect the uniqueness and preciousness of gold, as well as its overtones of age, ripeness and wisdom. Each poet has a distinctive voice but together they create a continuous chant, their voices blending to sing a Hymn to Life. The 211 poems were edited and arranged by Joyce W. Leo and Nathalie Roy.

Book Synopsis The History of Dream Catcher by : Dream Catcher Designs
Download or read book The History of Dream Catcher written by Dream Catcher Designs and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2023-01-26 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A dream catcher is a craft object traditionally made by Native Americans. It is a hoop, often made of willow, that is woven with a web of string or cord, and decorated with feathers and beads. The dream catcher is said to filter out bad dreams, allowing only good dreams to pass through to the sleeper. The good dreams are said to slide down the feathers to the sleeper, while the bad dreams are trapped in the webbing and destroyed by the morning light. Dream catchers are typically hung above a person's bed and are believed to protect the sleeper from nightmares. They are often given as gifts to children or loved ones, to protect them while they sleep. The Ojibwe people, an indigenous people of North America, have a longstanding tradition of making and using dream catchers. The legend behind the dreamcatcher says that the spider woman, Asibikaashi, in the Ojibwe culture, would visit the people in their dreams and take away the bad dreams and give good dreams. The dreamcatcher is said to have originated with the Ojibwe people, but it has since been adopted by other Native American tribes and cultures. Dreamcatchers are made in different sizes, but most commonly are circular, with a diameter of around 6-8 inches. The hoop is usually made of willow, which is bent and woven together to form a circular shape. The webbing is then woven through the hoop, and the dreamcatcher is decorated with feathers and beads. The feathers are said to represent the breath of life and the beads are said to represent the tears of joy. The dreamcatcher is considered a sacred object that should be treated with respect. Dreamcatcher has become a popular decorative item and many people hang it in their homes to bring good luck, peace and harmony. It has also been used as a symbol of cultural appropriation. Many people have started to use it without understanding its significance and meaning in the Native American culture.

Book excerpt: In a far corner of the Island of Serendipity stood the poorest of poor castles. Everything was poor including the villagers who lived inside. No matter how poor, the villagers took the greatest of pride in the baking and selling of muffins Every morning, villagers loaded them onto their only wagon and went from village to village selling all the muffins. One day there appeared at the castle a great and monstrous dragon—a muffin-munching dragon. With crumbs still on his face from the muffins he'd eaten at the last castle he'd visited, the dragon came waddling down the hill, right up to the drawbridge. From the smell of things, this was a perfect place for a muffin-munching dragon to live. From that day forward, he ate all of the muffins. With no muffins to sell, the castle folk had no money to buy supplies to bake more muffins. All would have ended here had they not all learned to work together. A delightful tale about simple economics.
