The Karmic concept forms the central core of Hinduism. It holds that the consequences of one’s deeds follow the soul as it migrates from one place of existence to another. Karma also refers to action in a physical daily sense. Our attitudes and beliefs that govern these actions are vital to well being and harmony. “Karmanyeva Adhikaraste,” says the Lord in the Gita. We are responsible for our actions, but hold no rights over the fruits thereof. Listen to Bhagawan as He unravels the mysteries behind karma. Over the next few pages, try listening to His voice as He speaks of how our actions make us what we are, and how we can use them to become what we want to be.

Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES, USA TODAY, and PUBLISHERS WEEKLY BESTSELLER “Full of valuable insights to guide you.”—WILL SMITH “Thoughtful and life-affirming . . . a must-read.”—TONY ROBBINS “This book will put you back in charge of your own life.”—TOM BRADY A new perspective on the overused and misunderstood concept of “karma” that offers the key to happiness and enlightenment, from the world-renowned spiritual master Sadhguru. What is karma? Most people understand karma as a balance sheet of good and bad deeds, virtues and sins. The mechanism that decrees that we cannot evade the consequences of our own actions. In reality, karma has nothing to do with reward and punishment. Karma simply means action: your action, your responsibility. It isn’t some external system of crime and punishment, but an internal cycle generated by you. Accumulation of karma is determined only by your intention and the way you respond to what is happening to you. Over time, it’s possible to become ensnared by your own unconscious patterns of behavior. In Karma, Sadhguru seeks to put you back in the driver’s seat, turning you from a terror-struck passenger to a confident driver navigating the course of your own destiny. By living consciously and fully inhabiting each moment, you can free yourself from the cycle. Karma is an exploration and a manual, restoring our understanding of karma to its original potential for freedom and empowerment instead of a source of entanglement. Through Sadhguru’s teachings, you will learn how to live intelligently and joyfully in a challenging world.

In Meditation in Action, Chögyam Trungpa teaches that meditation is based on trying to see what is, rather than trying to achieve a higher mental or physical state. Trungpa describes the life of the Buddha, emphasizing that, like the Buddha, we must find the truth for ourselves, rather than following someone else's example. Meditation in action might also be called "working meditation," for it is not a retreat from the world. Rather, it builds the foundation for tremendous compassion, awareness, and creativity in all aspects of a person's mind or behavior. Trungpa shows that meditation extends beyond the formal practice of sitting to build the foundation for compassion, awareness, and creativity in all aspects of life. He explores the six activities associated with meditation in action—generosity, discipline, patience, energy, clarity, and wisdom –revealing that through simple direct experience, one can attain real wisdom—the ability to see clearly into situations and to deal with them skillfully, without the self-consciousness connected with ego.

Book excerpt: This book provides a critical conceptual analysis of the concepts of karma, dharma and moksha which constitute the key features of religious, cultural, ethical and philosophical thoughts of the Hindus, the Jains and the Bauddha s. The book discusses various philosophical issues pertaining to these concepts in an analytical manner without showing any disrespect to any religious and philosophical systems of the Hindus, the Jains and the Bauddha s. It has been argued on the logical ground that the doctrine of karma suffers from its own inherent contradictions. But it does not rule out the possibility of human freedom and the attainment of moksha. The concept of karma does not preserve a single meaning in the Indian religious, cultural and ethical heritage. Its meaning has been changing at different stages. It has been also argued through the analysis of the concept of niskama karma that doing of any dharma does not make it either moral or immoral. It becomes moral only when dharma itself is moral. The concept of niskama karma is a teleological concept. It is not a deontological concept like the Kantian concept of duty as it is generally understood by many Indian scholars. We all face moral dilemma in our day-to-day s life. This book-provides a solution to this problem. The author also argues on the rational ground that we can solve religious conflicts by secularizing our religion in an ethical way without discarding it or showing any disrespect to any other religion and can live a better and happier life for which we all aspire. Its simple analytical style makes it useful not only for students and teachers of philosophy but also for general readers who have keen interest in the Indian religious and cultural -traditions. Most of the topics of this book are included in the under-graduate and post graduate syllabi of many Indian Universities.

Book excerpt: “Karma Yoga” (The Yoga of action) is an English book of Swami Vivekananda, the book was first published in February 1896 from New York. Swami Vivekananda delivered a number of lectures in his rented rooms at 228 W 39th Street in New York City from December in 1895 and January, 1896. In 1895-1895, friends and supporters of Swami Vivekananda hired a professional stenographer Joseph Josiah Goodwin (who later became a follower of Vivekananda). Goodwin recorded some of the lectures of Vivekananda, and those lectures were published as the book Karma Yoga. It is said in the practice of Vedanta that we have a right to work, but don't have a right to the results of our actions. We have to work as hard as we can, give the work our best quality effort, then step back and let the results take care of themselves. Or in the practice of yoga, offer the results to God.Work purifies the soul. This concept is a bit different than many of us have been taught in the West, but the book offers an interesting approach that can save us from a lot of misery and bring us closer to God. In fact, you don't even need to believe in God to practice this yoga.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of Tibet’s great scholars presents the Buddha’s profound teachings on the laws of karma and dependent arising. In the Rice Seedling Sutra, the Buddha unpacks the law of cause and effect. He notes how in the natural world, a seed becomes a sprout, which produces a flower, which bears fruit. A seed has no intention to sprout; when the right conditions are assembled the fruit arises. Similarly, when our senses encounter an object, a sense consciousness arises naturally, without our intending it. This, says the Buddha, is also how karma works and how actions performed out of ignorance create suffering, whether we want it or not. And this same law of causality also governs enlightenment—when the right conditions are assembled, awakening is assured. In many sutras like this one, the Buddha explains that to understand his Dharma is to understand dependent arising. Geshe Yeshe Thabkhe explores dependent arising, and the corollary teaching of emptiness, through this sutra and others. Commenting on the works of Indian masters such as Shantaraksita, he shows how belief in a creator god is incompatible with dependent arising, and by illuminating the teachings of Nagarjuna and Chandrakirti, he shows how we do—and do not—exist. Geshe Yeshe Thabkhe was among the last generation of scholars to be trained in Tibet before the Chinese occupation. He has been teaching Westerners for decades, having worked with top scholars in the United States, and he is especially familiar with this sutra, having translated the commentary by Kamalasila into Hindi. Here his deep familiarity, combined with his extensive command of the Buddhist scriptures, allows him to present the Buddha’s words in a rich and authoritative context.

Book excerpt: Dear Reader, Karma means work or action. According to Rishi Jaimini, rituals like Agnihotra, Yajnas, etc., are termed Karmas. There is a hidden power in Karma termed ‘Adrishta’, which brings in fruits of Karmas for the individual. Karma is all in all for Jaimini. Karma is everything for a student of the Mimamsic school of thought. Jaimini is the founder of Poorva Mimamsa. He was a student of Maharishi Vyasa, the founder of Uttara Mimamsa or Vedanta. The Mimamsa school denies the existence of Ishvara, who awards the fruits of works. According to the Gita, any action is a Karma. Charity, sacrifice and Tapas are all Karmas. In a philosophical sense, even breathing, seeing, hearing, tasting, feeling, smelling, walking, talking, etc., are all Karmas. Thinking is the real Karma. Raga-dvesha (likes and dislikes) constitute real Karma. First in this book I am discussing few interesting stories to explain the karma. Then I am explaining what is Karma, action and reaction. How free will and karma works in our like. We always heard in our life as you sow so shall you reap, I am trying to explain that in details. We always wonder about reincarnation so in this book I am trying my best to explain karma related to reincarnation. I hope you will love this book and enjoy reading. I Welcome everyone to my journey of Spirituality. Regards, Saket Shah
