Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This memoir attempts at a systematic study of convergence to stationary state for certain classes of degenerate diffusive equations, taking the general form ${\frac{\partial f}{\partial t}}+ L f =0$. The question is whether and how one can overcome the degeneracy by exploiting commutators.

Book Synopsis Applied Analysis: Mathematical Methods In Natural Science (2nd Edition) by : Suzuki Takashi
Download or read book Applied Analysis: Mathematical Methods In Natural Science (2nd Edition) written by Suzuki Takashi and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2011-03-11 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a general introduction to applied analysis; vector analysis with physical motivation, calculus of variation, Fourier analysis, eigenfunction expansion, distribution, and so forth, including a catalogue of mathematical theories, such as basic analysis, topological spaces, complex function theory, real analysis, and abstract analysis. This book also uses fundamental ideas of applied mathematics to discuss recent developments in nonlinear science, such as mathematical modeling of reinforced random motion of particles, semiconductor device equation in applied physics, and chemotaxis in biology. Several tools in linear PDE theory, such as fundamental solutions, Perron's method, layer potentials, and iteration scheme, are described, as well as systematic descriptions on the recent study of the blowup of the solution.
Book Synopsis Analytic Methods for Coagulation-Fragmentation Models, Volume II by : Jacek Banasiak
Download or read book Analytic Methods for Coagulation-Fragmentation Models, Volume II written by Jacek Banasiak and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-09-05 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analytic Methods for Coagulation-Fragmentation Models is a two-volume set that provides a comprehensive exposition of the mathematical analysis of coagulation-fragmentation models. Initially, an in-depth survey of coagulation-fragmentation processes is presented, together with an account of relevant early results obtained on the associated model equations. These provide motivation for the subsequent detailed treatment of more up-to-date investigations which have led to significant theoretical developments on topics such as solvability and the long-term behaviour of solutions. To make the account as self-contained as possible, the mathematical tools that feature prominently in these modern treatments are introduced at appropriate places. The main theme of Volume I is the analysis of linear fragmentation models, with Volume II devoted to processes that involve the nonlinear contribution of coagulation. Features of Volume II: A primer on weak compactness in L 1 and dynamical systems A comprehensive theory of solvability of the coagulation-fragmentation equation by both the semigroup and weak compactness methods, including a thorough analysis of the gelation and shattering phenomena A detailed analysis of the long-term dynamics of the coagulation-fragmentation equations with a state-of-the-art discussion on self-similar solutions
Book Synopsis Travelling Waves in Nonlinear Diffusion-Convection Reaction by : Brian H. Gilding
Download or read book Travelling Waves in Nonlinear Diffusion-Convection Reaction written by Brian H. Gilding and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2012-10-24 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph has grown out of research we started in 1987, although the foun dations were laid in the 1970's when both of us were working on our doctoral theses, trying to generalize the now classic paper of Oleinik, Kalashnikov and Chzhou on nonlinear degenerate diffusion. Brian worked under the guidance of Bert Peletier at the University of Sussex in Brighton, England, and, later at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands on extending the earlier mathematics to include nonlinear convection; while Robert worked at Lomonosov State Univer sity in Moscow under the supervision of Anatolii Kalashnikov on generalizing the earlier mathematics to include nonlinear absorption. We first met at a conference held in Rome in 1985. In 1987 we met again in Madrid at the invitation of Ildefonso Diaz, where we were both staying at 'La Residencia'. As providence would have it, the University 'Complutense' closed down during this visit in response to student demonstra tions, and, we were very much left to our own devices. It was natural that we should gravitate to a research topic of common interest. This turned out to be the characterization of the phenomenon of finite speed of propagation for nonlin ear reaction-convection-diffusion equations. Brian had just completed some work on this topic for nonlinear diffusion-convection, while Robert had earlier done the same for nonlinear diffusion-absorption. There was no question but that we bundle our efforts on the general situation.
